Very Good App - Can Be Even Better

Can really dial in your system with this app, and is generally intuitive and straightforward. Over all worth the cost once you learn it. Would be great if you could select an automation after reaching a predefined trigger like “After my car finishes charging, reset my Powerwall from “Maintain Charge” to “Self Powered” so I don’t have to tap the grid at night once my car finishes charging.

Missing Disconnect Grid

Solar produces enough to stay disconnected from grid. Right now the Powerwalls are not communicating to the Enphase connected Canadian solar micro inverters to shut down or reduce solar production when Powerwalls are at 97% causing power surges in the house. To stop the surge for now I need to reconnect to the grid. This feature is missing. I need the app to disconnect and reconnect to grid until this issue is sorted. Missing dollar savings and real time energy bill estimates for the month.

A lot of promise.

This is a good app, but it could be, and should be!, a great app. I paid the pro subscription so I could see solar string energy, but it only shows the first powerwall, and even at that, it shows it as 6 strings rather than the 3 it is. I can do the maths myself, but it would be better if the app did it and presented me with 3 strings. It needs to show the pv strings on my second powerwall, and for folks who have more than two too. I’m sure all of this will come soon enough, and I applaud Net Zero for all they are doing. I just want it all now!

Superb functionality but…

Update 6 Sep 25: I didn’t choose to take up the subscription. Instead I needed to retest the Tesla app and categorically establish how much value I was gaining. After a full month I have my initial ‘real’ assessment. The flexibility of Netzero is undeniable. The native Tesla app is as annoying as ever. But from an entirely monetary perspective, with a bit of breaking to my rates I’ve seen no material change in my recovery, and certainly nothing to materially offset the subscription charge. I fully appreciate why Netzero were forced to go this way, but it looks like these API charges make any business case for this app unviable, which is a real shame. Really sorry guys- love your work and what you’ve tried to do, but you’re being squeezed out of the market. Original Review: I’ve been using this for 9 months now- it’s a real game changer and plugs some serious holes in the core Tesla powerwall control capability. The flexibility is second to none and the support provided is amazing - well worth a 5 star review. But now we need a subscription to take advantage of this. Don’t get me wrong, it’s worthy of a subscription - I’d been expecting this for a while and I’d gladly pay, but the fee is way over the top. I’m seriously going to have to reevaluate whether this is driving enough value on balance. Times are hard for everyone - Guys, thanks so much for all of your hard work and innovation but seriously, please reconsider the price you are asking people to pay!

Good but too expensive

I really like this app and I used it quite a lot before the subscription model kicked in. Since then there have been many useful improvements, but for me the annual cost is way more than I would save each year. The Tesla AI works that well for me that I rarely need to tweak anything. I do use the free version for the graphs though and the developer has been responsive to questions I have had.

Great if you have a Tesla Powerwall

Having just had a Powerwall 3and solar arrays installed, my supplier suggested this app for providing much finer control of the system, particularly as I needed to potentially charge an EV and the PW3 simultaneously. The app works very well once logged into your Tesla account and does what is says. I now have special instructions (under automation) that permits simultaneous charging and it works just as needed. The app also provides better graphical information about how the three energy sources I know have (grid, battery, solar) are being utilised to meet my home demand. Technical support is also first rate with fast and useful responses. Well worth adding.

★★★★☆ United Kingdom · v2.3.4 · 21 Jan 2026

Initial impressions weren’t great but improved with time and I can see this could be very useful.

I bought this app to work with Octopus Agile - it didn’t. Everything appeared to have been set up ok. My Tesla app said it was on the right tariff and not to edit it as was being controlled by NetZero but it only charged from solar (despite charging from grid and export being enabled and overnight prices around 3-4p/kWh and despite reaching 100% charging from solar it did not discharge come 4pm. For the £6.99/month it’s costing I have decided it isn’t worth it. I have set a manual schedule in the Tesla app and that actually seems to be working. Maybe if I got it working it would save me a few pence per day (so far it has cost me money) but I will in future be saving 23p a day from not paying for the app. Perhaps it’s my age. I really wanted something I could set up once and forget. I don’t want to have to power cycle my battery to get it to bring up options that should be there. Apps should just work, especially if they are paid for. I am sure that many people who are a bit more tech savvy than me will enjoy it but the instructions (if you can find them), particularly for automations seem to me to be written by techies for techies. I suggest the developers ask their grandparents to read through the instructions and make sure if it is intelligible for a layman before asking £70/year. I didn’t find the app at all intuitive. I was also puzzled that the battery wasn’t included in the list of Energy Devices (EV chargers and heat pumps, yes, but battery, no) making me think I must be missing something. I will, in fairness, say the developers do respond reasonably quickly but how much to’ing and fro’ing should one need. I was disappointed after the rave reviews on YouTube and the top reviews other purchasers have given (actually less top reviews once it becomes a paid app it seems). It obviously is a useful app for many people - particularly the tech savvy who probably are a majority of Powerwall owners- but sadly it isn’t for me. I do find it annoying that I had to spend £6.99 to find that out. If it had been a free app or even a free trial first I would just have moved on without bothering to leave a review. Update: one month on and things improved considerably. I think the initial problems may have been down to the battery being new and learning my usage. I decided not to try and be clever with the app and just leave it and the battery to manage my Agile tariff which it did pretty well. I have though decided that now I have a battery Octopus Go is a better tariff for me and that is quite simple for me to set up for the PW3 to manage as there are just two rates - peak and off peak. I have therefore cancelled my subscription. I am still able to see a bit more data on the free version of the NetZero app than is available just from the Tesla app so that is a real positive. If I was still on the Agile tariff I would have kept up the subscription as it saves an awful lot of work managing the battery myself and I would recommend the app in that situation. I have therefore revised my rating from 2 to 4 stars.

★★☆☆☆ United Kingdom · v2.2.1 · 18 Sept 2025

Not worth it.

Update one month not using Netzero. Had great functionality, but does not represent value for money. Still not worth it. Sorry. I’ve dropped the stars to two from four. Could you consider reducing overheads? -Tiers of automations based on how much you are demanding? (Setting a reserve charge state twice a day is very different demand to Octopus Agile/IOG integration). -Not limiting subscribing through Apple Store to reduce commission. -Allowing automations to run as background activity on a phone to reduce cloud running costs. -Having a one off paid for app that would raise some money. -Accepting a smaller profit margin for more customers, there will likely be competition soon. —- Used the app for a few months, has been quite nice to get extra functionality and automations not offered through the native Tesla app. However the new pricing proposed is not worth it for users like myself on a simple off peak tariff in the UK. I’m forecasting the extra increase to my bills may be ~£2 a month based on Tesla time-based control. £6.99 a month isn’t worth it, sorry. I would happily pay for a ‘lite’ service with some basic automations (Time based setting of backup reserve) or even pay for a standalone version that can be run from an old phone allowing local control rather than from the cloud. Appreciate your reason behind moving to the subscription model, sadly it’s not worth it for me.

Loved it until now

Great app, took a bit of tinkering to get right. It now it just works away in the background. I am however disappointed at the subscription cost that is now being introduced. Firstly it is advertised at $6.99/mth, but in the UK it is £6.99/mth, something is not quite adding up there with the exchange rate! Secondly I just can’t see the cost/benefit ratio paying me back £70/yr using the app. If it was maybe £3/mth that would be a little easier to accept.

If it was cheaper I’d be tempted

It just feels like greed, the cost of the upcoming subscription. The issue is that for most of the year my feedback to the grid won’t actually cover the cost of this stupid subscription, whereas for about 3 months it will. It just makes no sense to be giving profit to this app across the year. I understand all the reasoning so please don’t reply, but i just want to suggest reducing the fees. Netzero is great, really like it, I do think the subscription needs to be way cheaper, it’s just too expensive. API costs are minimal… $1 per 1000 commands. Making £6.99 very excessive. Subscription cost far too high…but excellent for integration between IOG, PV, a PW2 and Zappi

Excellent app but the subscription cost is far too high to make economic sense. £70 annually is currently equivalent to 1000 kw on Octopus IOG. There is no way I could save anywhere near that amount of electricity using the app whose main use would be in the summer months anyway. Happy, as others have said, to consider a ‘lite’ version at a more reasonable cost. I do understand why the developer wants to monetise the app though.

Works well with Tesla

Much more useful app than the Tesla app. Excellent graphics. Monitoring of inverter and panels is good but would be better if it could retain the readings; strings have to be reread if you leave the page. Strongest feature is the automations. You do have to subscribe to the app for this feature but it is worth it as Tesla makes access to the API very difficult. It may be difficult to implement, but having an IF/THEN capability would be great. Also having a time-of-year condition could be useful for TOU users. Overall I am very happy with the app.
