Blue Iris HAS KEPT MY COMPANY & HOME SECURE since 2015
Blue Iris has been an invaluable asset to the security of my company property and at my personal home since 2016. Not only having security cameras visibly outside and inside both places acts as a deterrent but BI has never skipped a beat when there has been an issue. I’ve had several breakin attempts at my company and have been able to respond before there was any major loss. I’ve also been been so comfortable knowing that everything in my parking lots and within my business and my personal property is recorded 24 / 7 and I’m able to go back 90 days for any issues that may have been a concern and have used footage for insurance claims , police investigations and for customer safety. Thanks Ken for keeping my interests under the best watch money can buy! Blue Iris is an incredible option for a novice and security professional wether it be a home a business or retail been incredibly valuable to us and cannot say enough great things about it. Thanks again Ken and the blue Iris team!
Glitchy update
The latest update no longer supports the original version of the server for playing back surveillance videos. They also didn’t fix the bug where most of the cameras in the main view are intermittently not showing up. Perhaps it works with the newest version of server, but the original version which supposed to still work, is no longer supported. Very disappointing.
Good app. Bad update
With the most recent update- video is no longer playing smooth. It like skips randomly. Overall blue iris is great though (v4). I know they want you to update to version 5- but everything I read seems to refer to problems with updates. As someone who already has a reverse proxy with https running- I don’t see any major new benefits that would be worth the risk yet…

Always having issues, unreliable
Family sharing doesn't work.
Family sharing doesn't work, it doesn't even show up anywhere in family members device it wants another $10.00 per family member.
THE BEST CHOICE
This is the single most Valued Software for me personally. I have used this software , running on PC, for over 2.0 years. It has proven to be invaluable to Me, Family, Homes, Friends, & Business iNorth Central Florida. Single handedly has made arrests by video capture, provided quality a consistently and always is being improved upon by Ken, Jennifer, and Team. I want to take a sentence to let You guys know….the support, the product and the continuous improvements to software that always seems flawless always, is so appreciated. Playback is jerky and slow
Latest update causes playback to be super slow or never start. Not good at all. Please revert this release.
New color scheme is hard on the eyes
Overall, the product has been pretty good for me over 5 or so years but the new color scheme in the most recent version is atrocious and difficult for old eyes. I would love a way to go back to the previous colors.
Cams not loading
Not sure what happened with the update, but for about a week now when i access the cameras on my phone camera not loading or takes for ever to load. Never had this problem before. I am on the last Bi desktop version and iphone 16 pro max plus version
Works?
Latest update fixed the issues, but rating 3 for now because the app was completely unusable for like a month prior to the fix.
Must Have App
If you run Blue Iris desktop this is a no brainier purchase. I have been using it since the initial release and the developer remains dedicated to customer satisfaction. I use this app daily and It has become the primary app for viewing my IP cameras. You will not be disappointed! NOTE: You do have to run Blue Iris desktop on your PC in order to use this app.
Constantly crashes
Please fix, app constantly crashing while scrolling through cameras…
Video saved to iOS no longer working
Great app to monitor Blue Iris installations and formerly a perfect app. However with recent versions, and BI 5.x, I can longer save camera video clips to iOS cameras roll - this used to work without issue on BI 4.x so I deducted 2 stars. Two other suggestions: 1) Please allow app to initiate iOS VPN connection. 2) Please port to AppleTV - I would gladly pay for an AppleTV version of this app. Thanks for a great app!
Usually great update for iOS 10 required
Since updating to iOS 10 the calendar no longer shows dates, just lines making it difficult to navigate through past footage.
New colors are bad
Please change the new color scheme. It looks really bad. Other style updates are great.
Antiquated UI but gets the job done
The UI is antiquated and the app could use a refresh (though supposedly this is coming soon with BI 6?), but the app is reliable and gets the job done. I’ve found it to be very stable and am able to key in on cameras quickly when I receive an alert. Full disclosure, I use HA to send alerts to my devices and use the app solely for monitoring (not alerts) - easier when you have a lot of devices that you want alerts sent to to but only want to pay for the app on one or two devices
App is not great any more!
The app does not load correctly, it does not show the saved videos. Overall it is not a great use of the app anymore
Pretty good so far
Running with BI app on an iPhone 15 and BI on an i7 desktop to view 3 IP cameras at 20 fps and relatively high resolution. Somewhat complicated for beginners. Wish I knew how to change the push notification sound. Also curious about needing to pay the yearly update charge for BI.
Developer won’t fix it
Had an issue with this having almost 100gigs of data. Emailed developer. Ya it’s a know issue. Almost two years later no fix. Poor apps and support. App is 10 years old and outdated.
Feels like someone’s side project
The app is mostly useable with some bugs, but it just feels outdated or neglected. I paid for the App expecting a better experience than the web UI and the only advantage for me is push notifications in the App, when they work. I mostly use the web UI with different notifications now and regret buying the App.
The Ideal Match for Blue Iris Enthusiasts!
Blue Iris has been an absolute game-changer in surveillance! Needless to say this app’s design makes monitoring my property simple, yet offering crystal clear live feeds directly to my phone and iPad. The customization options in this app are user-friendly, allowing me to finangle the settings exactly how I want. Definitely deserves a five-star rating!
Horrible Update
Please fix this update! The last version was so much better!!! My cameras will hardly load and playback.
Very reliable
This app is so reliable and consistent. My only thing I wish it had was picture-in-picture support. It has background audio but not video when you leave the app.
Needs a serious update
I’ll say it’s a good app. But it needs to be updated. This is a surveillance app and it’s hard to scrub through footage. Its main purpose should be easily look through camera feeds and history. It needs a complete redesign.
Why charge for the app???
I like the system, but if we’re already paying for the software, why must each user pay another $9 for the app? Feels like a bit of a money grab. Take a note from UniFi - their app is free.
Really good and support is great
Used for a couple of years and recently had occasion to use support. Great service and resolved my issues. Definitely recommend.

Essential to anyone use BI servers
Essential to anyone use BI servers. I have used this at home to manage my 8 IP cameras I have deployed outside. For the price and the amount of features it’s great. I’m now rolling this out to my remote offices. Great software!
Push notifications require subscription
Push notifications only work if you have purchased the desktop app AND have an extended support subscription.

Using for 1 year plus, Excellent!
I have a small sever running Ryzen 5700G, 2tb M2, 16gb RAM…etc for Blue Iris. I also have about 6 cameras connected in different fashion (POE, WiFI, USB). No issues at all from this application. It is lightweight, not tons of features which is fine, it just works. I send “critical” updates to my phone when a person is detected in the AI of the server, that works fine. Solid app.
Wtf
I updated the app and it’s completely broken, cannot even get past the spinning circle, can’t go back so, what the hell!
Great app
If you have a blue iris server this app is a gem. Work flawlessly. The only thing not going for it is the design, let’s say it could improve a lot. Great work!
Could be better
Awful UI , although main windows app isn’t much better. It’s like going back to 2005. Also no timelime option, use the web interface and it has a nice timeline slider that you don’t have to keep selecting recorded videos to view. Apart from that it works ok so 2 stars for that.
Great when it worked
Don’t believe all these reviews that say they couldn’t even get their camera working, or there’s too many steps to get simple things going. This is not a consumer-based software. It’s an IT solution. It takes time to configure and set up IT solutions. This app was fantastic while it worked. But now iOS notifications are broken and I am unable to get them resolved. I’ve tried numerous versions and have uninstalled and re-installed the app multiple times. My devices have been on different iOS versions as well, so that doesn’t seem to be a cause. My android devices work perfectly fine, but my android device isn’t my daily driver. Guess I’ll rebuild my server and try again, but that’s all I can do.
Works Great
Seen some negative reviews on here, but gotta say the Blue Iris IOS app has worked great for me. The only issue I’ve had is alerts seem inconsistent on some of my cameras, but that may be from not having them configured correctly. Otherwise, the app is reliable, responsive, and very intuitive to use. Worth the $$$ and much cheaper in the long run than what most smart cameras charge for monthly cloud access.
Flaky
When it works it’s great but when it doesn’t it’s an all day job to get it back online. So far it’s been off for two months and I can’t get it to work so it’s junk.
Functionality great, user interface needs tiny bit work
This is a great iOS client for Blue Iris camera viewing and recording software for Windows. Great because it works without glitches to view live and recorded video. However, the user interface, aesthetically is from the '90s. Needs work, but not from the software developer, but a real UI designer. The price could be raised if that was done. My 2 cents. Apple Watch app would also pay for that.
Misleading
You need to buy their support plan so as to upgrade blue iris desktop app to the latest otherwise iphone notification would not work. It seems they use cert which gets updated every couple of months. They have not mentioned it anywhere in the app description!
Great when it works
I have only been able to get it to work remotely once, then it stopped. There is intermittent connectivity between the client and the server on my LAN. It works for a couple of days then it will won’t connect. Very frustrating.
Fixed for iOS 17
Fixed the following issue: Loud click sound when you access cameras. Was working fine on iOS 16.
Doesn't work
This won't connect with my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I'm not trying to port forward. Just a simple connect fails. BI customer service is no help Owen
Essential!
Well, it's an essential app if you have BlueIris, otherwise less so! Latest version seems to be working fine for me.
Hot Mess
Cryptic icons everywhere. Behavior profiles get stuck regardless of geofenced phone location. Joke of layout editor overlays number on recordings while in use. Can turn a few security cameras into a full time troubleshooting hobby.
Works but major bugs not addressed
I am seeing a crash when you save a snapshot and then click done. It’s 100% reproducible. Similar issues in saving video clips. Cameras hidden in the main app do still show up on mobile
Perfectly fine
Perhaps those complaining about crashes don’t run the blueiris software on a fast enough machine. Personally I was fed up with how underpowered synology’s NAS was for their synology surveillance station app, it just could not cope with more than 3 cameras. So gone and got a dell poweredge server, with XEON, 16gb ram and separate solid state discs for the op system, new, alerts and a large 16TB fast disc for stored footage. Followed some good online resource to configure the 12 or so cameras and the speed overall is phenomenal. Logging in and accessing any recordings from the internet is instant and had never seen the mobile app crash. Great software, plan to stick with it.
App does not connect but browser does
connect on app never works endless retry but connection works fine on browser fix your app!
Blue Iris poor support
This is excellent software unfortunately the same can't be said for their support. I had problems getting a picture after 3 days of emailing (only way to contact them) the response was very poor when they did reply it was like they had not read my email! Found solution myself I had version 3.2 on PC I needed to upgrade to 3.66 new version for PC is 4 which I would have purchased if they had helped me. When upgrading you must remove old version then install new verion. Now works a treat hope this helps others great software.
Really bad, waste of money.
Really expensive app for what it does, doesn’t get 4K resolution, and the videos or snapshots have a really poor quality. The UI is as well really bad looks like windows 95.
Update to 2.01.00 defects
I have been using BI for nearly a year an on 5.5.1.4 now. I paid for this app on my iPad Air 2 running IPadOS 14.8, and today my iPad updated the app to version 2.01.00. All was working ok until this update installed, I have found a couple of defects with this version on my iPad:- First - When viewing live BI via the app, every 45 seconds the screen darkens then goes off for a second and then returns to normal viewing…so annoying when I am watching something about to happen. Second - when going from this app to any other app and then back to this app, it displays main screen with the 3 pie charts, and won’t let me go to the cameras again, I have to close this app and restart to view anything Please resolve these defects, I was getting used to app before this update, thanks
