Of all the KC local news apps, KCTV5 consistently has the best reporting. The articles and recordings are fact based, researched, show the larger impact of the story, and are clearly communicated without drama. Thank you, KCTV5! You give us hope in our modern-day truth-fiasco.
I hate all the click bate!
I’ve used the KCTV5 app for close to 10 years. I hate all the click bait. I can hardly get to the story or reporting I’m looking for man. Is there no way to limit it or disable. And that stupid little X is just a trick you can push it for ever and nothing happens. But I think I might just delete the app! VERY DISAPPOINTED!
Audio domination
I like the app, but opening the app unnecessarily takes over the audio on my phone. I like to scroll the news while listening to a podcast…I immediately lose my poscast when I open this app. I’d give it 5 stars if that was fixed. Take over audio when/if I play a video, but otherwise, please let me scroll while listening to something else.

Doesn’t work most the time usually outdated information
Alerts
What's with these "alerts" at the bottom of the screen? There's no way to turn them off. I don't have a need for or want these alerts.

Good app, one suggestion for notifications
I really like the app, and I had notifications turned on because I thought breaking news would be things like weather alerts or if there was an amber alert what kind of details it has. Most of the push notifications have been things I really don’t care about so my recommendation would be to have the options of specific breaking news categories, like weather, amber alerts(or any kind of bolo really), then maybe local news or national news
New App 👎🏻
I am not pleased with the new app at all. It constantly shows unread messages/alerts when they have been read. It forces you to watch ads that cannot be turned off which is very unappealing and was NOT a part of the old app. I’m all about changes but when the features in the new app fail users then you cannot embrace or support the new version. A fix is not only needed it’s become a necessity to keep your viewers. I am contemplating removing it all together if not updated to be better soon.

After going into the app and reading all the alerts in the app, then going out of the app it still shows a red notification circle on the app.

I was always happy with channel 5 news ,unfortunately they are trying to change the game for me.they won’t allow me the use of the app, on my mobile phone, unless allow them to add more spam , just so they can pay for the service. To those in charge at KCTV5, people who use your site, should know that, us the users on either mobile, or computers get so much more of this stuff you are trying to make us, sign up for. If you are that desperate for money, that you want to add more junk to are devices please, we have less income than a news company, not to mention that Covid has taken a toll on all of your users.please I don’t need more spam on my phone. I, am sure this comment will not posted, or stay up for long, but please, KCTV5 no more spam.
Disappointing changes to the app
The upgrade to the app no longer allows sharing a story nor can the photos be enlarged for better viewing. Advertising has become a blaring noise when opening stories. I’m disappointed with all of this because this site was “my go-to” for news.

The new weather person needs to speak slower and lower her tone. Very difficult to understand.
New update is terrible
The old app was perfectly fine. I could go see videos if I wanted to, but now every time I open an article I’m blasted with a commercial that refuses to stop playing in order to see the article that I could’ve read fast faster than the entire ad that played. Why are we so reliant on not reading anymore? What is happening to literacy? Why can’t we all just read the article and if I wanted to watch the actual news video, I would turn on the news. Bring back the old app.
69 year-old grandmother held kidnapped in independence home
I’m very disappointed with KCTV5 News because the story leaked out about myself. I was never kidnapped. I live in the residence.. the story had very little truth to it . I was never contacted and my son lost his job because of this newscast.
Ads in the app
I don’t care tor the new format or the fact that I have to watch a stupid ad/video before I can get to the news. Looking for a different news app that doesn’t have ads.

App version 131.0.13 Immediately crashes on opening iPad Air model MD785LL/, A1474 iOS version 12.5.7 (16H81). App has been uninstalled, cache cleared, iPad restarted, version 131.0.13 reinstalled. Still crashes. App only requires iOS 12.0 or later.
Full Page Ad Hijacks Screen
Latest 2025 update loads full page ad shortly after you open app. Then no way to exit. So must fully close app and reload. Suggest using other local news app.

Anytime an article is opened the screen goes white after ~5-10 secs of being opened. It’s literally impossible to read any of the articles and has been doing this for over a month. Is there an update with fixes coming??

I click on news apps for news. Not having to watch political adds before I see anything. Bye
