What people like
- Great local news and weather updates
- Reporters are honest and informative
- Useful for breaking news alerts
What they complain about
- App keeps crashing and freezing often
- Too many ads interrupt your reading
- New layout is hard to navigate
Better now
New app update is much better than the prior version. No more crashing!
Bottom of the barrel
I’d be hard pressed to find a worse application. Alerts don’t open to articles, screens are poorly designed, content organization is bad, and there is so much advertising, you can barely find the content.
Thanks for the updates!
Great way to get updates on news and weather relevant to the region.
WJHL AP
This app has so many adds it makes it hard to use.
Headline News
It would be great to have more headliner news right at the start / open page instead of having to search for it in the headers.
WJHL NEWS CHANNELL 11
WJHL Is The ONLY NEWS CHANNELL FOR Me All Of You Does A GREAT Job👍Sandy Greer
New version is terrible
The new version of the app is completely terrible. If I had known how bad it was going to be, I wouldn’t have even updated it. The app used to be great and so user friendly. Now I don’t even get alerts and the radar is awful. With the old app I could easily change my location and check weather in other areas. I would delete it but there are no other local apps in the area. It’s such a shame they have changed it. It was not at all an upgrade. Please bring the old one back.
Less Va news
I’d appreciate more local News and sports in Jonesborough, Greeneville, and Johnson City. Thanks.
Alerts never open the app!
The alerts are a nice feature, but they never open/load the app properly. The app starts to open, but gets stuck. If I close the app and reopen it, I can't find the breaking news. I have to go to the website to find it. I also hate that I can't control the text height in the app. I have my iPhone text size larger than average so I can read text/email easier. This works great in other apps, but this app increases the text size so big that it displays only a couple of words per line. It is like reading sentences word by word off flash cards. The other complaint is all the advertisements. We were without electricity for weeks after the Helene Flooding. I would drive into town for cell coverage and have to watch a bunch of ads (wasting battery & time!) before I could hear any status updates from the Emergency Management News briefs.
Poor navigation
Site does not navigate easily. I mainly use this app to get breaking news and traffic.
Turbo
Perfect update on the my iPhone thanks for all your hard work thanks again
Update completely ruined a great app
Until this week’s update, this was one of my most-used apps, but with the new update, I am deleting it. The interactive radar no longer has the useful overlays, and the large location pin hides the radar at the location you want to see. It went from being an app that was a marvel to an apparent throwback to the early 2000s. I do not understand why they would do this. Surely any new information (closings, etc) could have been integrated into the old app without destroying it completely. Right now, I am using WCBD Charleston’s weather app, which is the old, good app. At least for now.
WJHL news
Stories tend to be short with promise to cover more of it but I never see the follow up very often.
Buggy on iPhone now
It seems to lockup and not allow you to scroll on iPhone when you go to a story from a notification lately. Really frustrating when you reopen the app and the story is nowhere to be found and the notification is gone. Read lots of half articles lately.
Updated version
The updated version is much more difficult to use. It took me five minutes to find the live news feed, and I've yet to find a direct link on the home page. The old version was much easier to maneuver. Please add the love news feed to the home page.
WJHL News
I appreciate the honest reporting. All of the new reporters do such a fantastic job! I love the original crew as well.
Didn’t think it could get worse…
Yeah the old version crashed but this new version is a jumbled mess, good luck finding any info on a news worthy subject on this app. You have to sort through countless ads to read the news article, WJHL why are there no less than 5 ads per page?
Like updates
Like to read updates. Only thing is sometimes updates come in pretty early in morning and even on vibrate it sometimes disturbs my rest.
Playback error
Every time I try to watch a video, it gives me an error.
Last version was better for weather
The news section is ok, not great. I mostly wanted this app for the weather feature. But to find an hourly precipitation breakdown is not easy. I just want to see it when I open the weather section, and not have to hunt for it.
Fair News
Accurate, fair, unbiased news reporting.

Useless
This app is buggy and has been that way for a year now. You can’t read a news article because the app freezes halfway through. This app is currently useless until the bugs are fixed.
New version no good
The last version was better. In the new one it's hard to find stuff. Lay out of the old one was better.
WJHL review
Thank you to our local tv channel WJHL in keeping us informed with all that’s going on in and around our area. All personnel do a fantastic job being so informative. It helps that they send sunshine our way each day. May the Lord continue to watch over each of them and bless them for the job they do.
It always crashes
I am 23 years old, and enjoy nc11. Nevertheless, the app always crashes. I can never get through all their news before it happens. I have downloaded it multiple time and contacted NC11 about the problem but they offer no solution other than to try downloading it again. Honestly, low quality for the high standards they have.
Not better
Not user friendly. Will probably delete app. Old format much better. Tried to fix or improve, but it didn't need to be fixed or improved!
Problem
App keeps crashing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crash
Everytime i open it, it crashes! No updates to be installed found. Please fix this, i am not a speed reader. Thank you!
Clunky and Cumbersome
Too many notifications, even after setting notification preferences. Interface is crowded and hard to maneuver. Used it a few days then deleted it. Try again

Always freezes or crashes
Please fix this app. It is constantly freezing or crashing. On the rare opportunity that I can actually read an article, half the time the article is incomplete or covered up my ads.
