What people like
- Great local news and weather
- Helpful when you have no TV
- Good coverage of local events
What they complain about
- App crashes and freezes constantly
- Too many ads interrupt you
- Notifications are buggy and useless
Bo I know you better Ken here’s hot water weather I know those folks staying right inside I know you
Chris Mckeehan I know Walmart well maybe we’ll watch watching sports together maybe high school football sports
Glitchy and slow
Full of ads and takes forever for a story to load. Do not recommend.
Fix the volume changes
Almost unwatchable. Intro volume is low, the anchor is very loud, ABC clip low. I am constantly adjusting TV volume. So annoying!
Can get past location screen since update
Unable to view news/weather since update. Can’t get past the location screen.
Lock up
Love the content but app locks up often and u have to close out and reopen to get going again.
A good alternative
This gives me other news about things 10 news usually doesn’t
Deleted app
Deleted app. I prefer Other local stations.
Current
Always current with the local update and surrounding areas 👍
Money vs. morality
I get the need for ads to make money, but when there is severe weather and threats of tornados in the area, you should not have to wait for an ad or two before you can view the live weather forecast. Under no circumstances is that appropriate in an emergency situation.
Liberal views
I enjoy keeping up with local news and would give WATE 5 stars instead of 3 if they would not insert liberal views into the news stories. I want to keep abreast of what’s going on in my area but I don’t wish to have political opinions, whether Right or Left, included. JUST NEWS!!!
WATE 6
Great coverage quickly.
Can’t watch jimmy kimmel because nexstar owns this channel
I can’t believe in 2025 we have to remind companies that taking someone off the air because the government is thin skinned is against free speech. This is pathetic and I will not support WATE until they show Kimmel on the air like normal. This is your chance to stand up to authoritarianism!
Sort of a news app...
To say this app has problems is a courteous understatement. The notifications that pop up on your lock screen don’t always take you to the story in question, and invariably you’ll have to swipe to dismiss at least one ad (and maybe more) to actually get to the story. The Traffic notifications are the worst. The notification often isn’t long enough to include all of the necessary information enabling you to avoid the area, but if you tap the notification, it doesn’t take you to a longer story, it takes you to a traffic map that is usually so out of date as to be useless, if it even opens on the location involved. Usually, it just opens a screen showing the entire five county area, and YOU have to figure out what part to zoom in on. It’s also obvious that the newsroom is doing cut-and-paste to flesh out stories, and don’t bother to catch grammatical or spelling mistakes, and even sometimes inconsistent factual information. My favorite example is a headline saying the identity of a body found earlier has been released, but the first paragraph of the story says the identification is still being withheld pending notification of relatives, and then the second paragraph goes ahead and names the victim! Do these people even HAVE an editor?
WATE NEWS
Wish there was more national news and pro sports news. Everything is repeated every 10 minutes. The anchors and everyone that’s on air are great.
Business Analysis
I enjoy the this news app 😀Breaking the newest news worthy content is awesome. Thank you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bugs
I deleted this app because every time I opened it and tried to view anything the app crashed. Went with a different weather app due to this problem.
Best News Channel
I love channel 6 news. You guys are the best
Buggy and full of ads
I get a notification of a live interview and cannot click on the link to go watch. Go into the app and click on the “LIVE” button and it’s buggy, full of ads and I never could watch the video. Ridiculous.
(Update failed )YAY!!!!!! Tech folks worked overtime!!!!
Update!!! They fixed the app!!! One happy camper here now!! Love my Channel 6!!!!! I missed my newsfeed, ain’t gonna lie. 🙌 Five Star now!!! ( I went to check the news this morning but the app was updating. When I came back later, EACH TIME still no connection. I have turned off my phone to reboot to see if that would help, no.... I have deleted and reinstalled, no...... Alas, good-bye app. )
Advertisement is losing you downloads
This app was fine until they put a ridiculous time delay to swipe away the opening full page ad. No one has time to stare at that. I’ve deleted the app and won’t be back.

Changed App
The app apparently updated and is now useless. Will delete.
6, Six, is one better than a perfect five.
23 years ago we retired to East Tennessee. Having to learn about new TV stations and people involved in them, I checked all the local ones. I quickly decided Channel 6, WATE was my choice.....for news, for weather, for everything. And they remain so to this day. Earlier this year the cable company was in some sort of money dispute and I was without Channel 6 for right at 2 months. It was like losing my best friend. Channel 6 is my choice as number 1.

I will be 73 12/06/2019. I was born in Knoxville, TN . And graduated from Central High School and UT. I have watched WATE my whole life. I remember you guys moving into Greystone. I went to First Lutheran School just down the street on Broadway. I lived in FL for several years, but when you developed an Application I got it. I loved to come home and watch your news and weather. It made me feel at home! Thank you for the warmth of your newscast including the professionalize you display.
Freezing
App keeps freezing lately and has become unusable. I have to restart the app every time it happens and it happens after about a minute. I’ve reinstalled but that didn’t help.
