They really need to do better
I would give the app a no start if I could…What would it take to make it so you can filter and see what issues you have purchased vs the ones that you haven’t so you can search for recipes only in the ones you own? Really folks for what youre charging….you need to deliver better value…
Nice magazine, but
It is unfortunate and disappointing that the links in the articles are only good if you also have a subscription for the website; especially since the subscription for Cook’s Illustrated isn’t cheap to begin with.
Cook’s illustrated magazine app just keeps going downhill.
The May/June issues not available on the app. I can get it on my library app for free. All the great features that disappeared with the pandemic have never returned. If you try for app support, it takes you to their site but there is no support. I have call and have been told numerous times it is Apple’s app, and they do not support it. I just so frustrating.
Where's my most recent issue?
I love the magazine, but I have emailed about my most recent issue for May/June 2024 which isn't there, but no response. I know is out because it is on Apple News. I'm a paying subscriber! Why isn't the app updating?? I like to save my magazines to refer back to them. And yes, I have restored my previous purchases to make sure that there wasn't a glitch somewhere. I want my magazine or else I may as well unsubscribe.

Not what it used to be
I’ve been a subscriber to this app for 10 years now, and it’s not what it used to be. Where did all the interactive features go, the ones that you still tout in the app description, and on your website? During COVID, it changed to what is basically a PDF, and that was ok for back then, but it hasn’t changed back. And now, I, and others apparently, haven’t gotten the May-June 24 issue yet, and not a peep anywhere about it.
No print ability
I love the convenience of cooks digitally. However,it’s very annoying to not be able to print the recipes you like. Even screen shots are very hard to do. May go back to print edition. I sent an email to editor but have had no response.
Bring back the interactive content
It’s a great magazine but it’s seriously embarrassing that the developers are still claiming that “working from home” is their excuse for just publishing a PDF of the print magazine without all the great interactive features that used to be included with the issues on the iPad app. I work in tech and literally everyone else figured out long ago how to design and code from home offices except the CI staff. Get it together guys!
Where is the current issue?
I have been a subscriber to Cooks Illustrated for decades, most recently this iPad version. The latest edition (May-June 2024) is available to me as an Apple News+ subscriber and has been since early in the month. However, your iPad app is still just offering me the March-April edition, on the 17th of the month. The new issues reliably appeared shortly after the first of the month they were expected. Why is the content available now on Apple News but not in the app? The interactive features disappeared with the pandemic (is working from home really preventing these features from being reinstated, or is it just cost savings?) and the release of the electronic version keeps getting delayed more with each issue. It is feeling like you really want to abandon this version of the magazine, it is an afterthought.

New app is disappointing
Recipes are good, but the elimination of video content and bookmark features of former favourite recipes is a great disappointment. If I wasn’t committed since 2013, I wouldn’t keep it as this has the old recipes I had paid for

But apparently this app doesn’t work for me. I need to pay again?
Where are my saved recipes!?
Used this app for years, and had many recipes saved only to lose them with this update without warning. What a waste!
Best Magazine Ever
It does not matter if your a experienced chef or a novice home cook, there’s something for everyone in this magazine. I’ve learned so much. It’s an easy read and extremely well written. It’s a must have in my humble opinion.
No latest issue
I’m not getting the May/June 2024 issue, and I know it’s out. Fortunately my renewal date is in a few days. So I’m not renewing. Shoddy management here. Disappointing.
Content is awesome, app is almost awesome

Scrolling not working
When opening the recipe page and at the top is an introduction and tips for the recipes, the scrolling to read the complete words does not work. This should be fixed.
Great content, limited presentation
I have been a subscriber for a number of years now and really enjoy the content. However there are limitations. You can not copy text from the app nor can you print or share part of the app, say a recipe or review. Support is non existent - the support links all go to America's Test Kitchen yet their support contacts no nothing about the app! It is also in need of a 64 bit update - keep getting a warning it will soon not work!

No download issues on either of our iPads (original and latest). Very impressed and just changed to yearly subscription. At first glance I'd like to see a share/print option (especially for ingredients). I've only had the app for a few hours, so maybe I'll get by just fine without such features.
Great magazine; mediocre app
I love everything CI does. It’s great but this app is not worthy. It does not indicate which issues are downloaded. It does not indicate which issues you have read. It does not keep track of where you were in an issue if you close the app for a few hours. I love the content but this app is 2010 level quality.
It's a good start
It's nice to see that Cooks Illustrated has finally come to the iPad. I didn't experience the problems with downloading that others seem to have had, but it did take quite a while (about 2 minutes) for the issue to start downloading after I pushed the Purchase button. There are a few things that could be improved. For example: As a cooking mag, I'd love the ability to add bookmarks so I can find my 'Favorites' later (would be really nice if that worked even if I've removed the mag from the device). When I use the printed version, I often end up writing little notes to myself for later. Would really like to be able to do that here aswell. Should be able to get the iPad version for free if you've got a printed subscription (as some other mag apps allow). It's not perfect (I quite like the 'Cooking Mode'), but as I say, it's a good start. Oh: Would also be nice if we could get an ATK mag as well.

Dear sirs: I love your magazine , but could you please update this app, I find your current display of your magazine not reader friendly. Could you please consider going back to the old one? I have been a digital subscriber for many years and I also am a subscriber to your web page. I love to cook and always turn to the experts for advice.
Not updating
My Cook’s Illustrated Magazine is not giving me the update to the May-June 2024 issue. Please fix this. I would also like the interactive features restored for app users. MG
Disappointed
I’ve been a subscriber to the app for years now and am pretty disappointed in the newest update. Any of the back issues before this year are just PDF copies of the paper magazines. All of the step-by-steps, color-changing photos, & instructional videos are gone. I liked the app version for these extra features. The current year has this, but once the year is over, I’m sure those will be converted over as well. Seriously considering unsubscribing.

I have never been disappointed! I have been reading cook’s for years and have become a much better cook.
All Access doesn’t work
I bought the all access subscription for CI, ATK and CC. I downloaded the apps and was able to log into ATK. No luck with CI and CC. Called support and they said their apps do not work with Safari. I canceled my subscription as all I have is IOS and MacOS devices. If it doesn’t work with the native browser then why bother creating the app? My advice, don’t waste your time if the technology decisions do not allow it work properly.
Subject is great, app needs work
The contents of the mag is not an issue, if you like Cooks Illustrated it’s a great read but if you are more after the recipes maybe the ATK app is a better choice. My frustration with this app relates to the favourites system. * There is no organisation system so you can’t sort the favourites (by issue, food type, etc.) * When clicking on a favourite in a different issue I get an error that the issue is installing or updating (which is not the case) * The favourites list isn’t backed up so if you swap devices you need to add the favs again * the recipe images in the favs list is in black and white. In Cook’s Country the images are in colour and much easier to browse There’s also no option to makes notes which would be super handy against particular recipes. Please fix!
Another scam?
I paid $20.00 for an annual subscription of Cook’s Magazine for IPAD, A d I love this magazine and app! I recommend it to everyone who loves doing things in the kitchen, entertaining, good food, love of cooking amd more
Please restore interactive features
Folks, it’s been what, 2 years, that we iPad readers have been without the interactive features we purchased the iPad edition for. We’ve been patient and “understanding’ (as your notice says), but I think the clock has run out on that. Your team can’t still be working from home, and even if they are, that is no longer an acceptable excuse. Furthermore, there have been a number of review comments on here similar to this one and no one from CI has bothered to respond to any of them. Again, unacceptable. You really need to step up your customer support game in the digital space or don’t be in it at all. No one who can be reached via the CI customer support number or email ever seems to have any idea at all about the iPad edition and that is completely maddening. Please stop ignoring us. We’ve been patient long enough.
Crashes
The app crashes a lot, doesnt load and then just blinks off. Unrealiable app if you actually want to read it when you want to.

The recipes and cooking techniques have been a delight and have contributed to many delicious family meals including providing great inspiration for entertaining guests when I need something to make them say Wow! And, the product information is so well done and has proven to be a source that I can use to help keep me informed about a wide variety of interesting finds. Unable to download August issue since iOS 15.6 update
New iOS update 15.6 can’t download new issue. Is this going to be fixed?

I've been trying to download 1issue of this magazine all day and it keeps crashing. I won't be buying another issue.
What happened to the photos
Old issues in app looks awful. Why did you remove the color photos????? Also I have to redownload all the back issues which takes forever. Not user friendly at all.
