What's happening
I've been using this app forever. Now we have a problem. Please put out an update so it will work with the new apple updates. I had to call apple (which I hate) to figure out why my internet and wifi quit working. I'm now paying for a service I can no longer use. Please fix respectful of course
No longer connecting
This app is no longer allowing me to connect. I have updated the certificate several times and I can also connect on my Mac.
Glitches constantly
I am constantly having to reconnect or downright disconnect the VPN in order to get a useable internet connection. It will just totally freeze and be useless. Right now I’m going in an hour of fiddling with the app, log out, log in, delete VPN profile, reinstall VPN profile. Totally deleted the App and still I can’t get a connection. Don’t waste your time or money.
DrP99
VPN connects almost instantly and seamlessly at work guest WiFi. Struggles and almost never connects on home WiFi even sitting next to WiFi antenna with a strong signal! Frustrating. This is a new phenomena; previously connected with ease on home WiFi, not anymore.
Is encrypt.me abandoned?
Seems to still work mostly, but no updates in a year, no memos support for iOS 17.x. The macOS version does not work with macOS Sonoma, no response from the developer… I’m a long time customer and missed the memo that maintenance was going away.

Fast, easy to use! Could use a manual and I haven’t figured out how to allow some apps & websites. Once I do, I’ll give this app 5 stars because it’s a great VPN and encryptor, other than the aforementioned problem. I saw where other people here have said this app doesn’t work because of many different issues and there is only email support. There is a support phone line. I know because I had to get my account setup with the company before I could get it working. I just haven’t contacted them about my problem with allowing some apps & websites. Every now and then I’ve had to open the app and turn the encryption on again, but that’s only been three times in the 6 months I’ve had it. When that happens, it shuts down my internet connection and I appreciate that as this lets me know right away, and without a security worry, that there is a problem.
Stopped working
Not sure why it stopped working.
Doesn’t recognize trusted networks
Encrypt me seems to do its job, but often doesn’t recognize my home network even though I have entered it as a trusted network. Says that a network is found but can’t determine the name.
Easy and Secure
I’ve used Encrypt.me for the last 3 years on all my mobile devices and it’s easy to manage networks and even to reinstall in the rare incident that an iOS update uninstalls it. Honestly, the most complicated component is remembering to open it to check settings when you join a new network!

Stopped working on all Apple Mobile devices. Will not connect….period.
Just needs one additional feature
This is a great app to have on my iPhone but it would be very helpful to have a PAUSE button. I’d rather pause for 5 or 10 minutes than turn it off completely and forget to turn it back on.
Used to be great...
Update 2/22/18. I’m looking for another product. While I appreciate the pricing model, it’s almost to the point of unusability. I’m not sure if it’s an increasing amount of providers that no longer allow VPN pass through or a problem with the app itself. Going to try another app and see if that is the case. ——— I love this product. My main concern is securing against evil twin and insecure access points and the low cost per month for light usage is the main selling point. I rarely even use the amount of data they allow me every month. It's there if I need it. It is a bit quirky at times (I try and disable it and it tries to reestablish its own connection) but I can live with that.
Stop Auto-Reconnecting
If I manually turn the VPN off for a connection, I'd expect it to stop reconnecting. Please fix this bug / poor UX.

I used this VPN while traveling in Europe. I felt safe using it. It may be not be the top VPN but it’s serviceable

Best of the lot
I have been using encrypt me for a number of years now. Public wifi’s have always been a challenge, especially and shopping centres and airports. It could be coincidental or only my imagination, but recently it appears that the experimental mode has may actually have made these public wifi locations a problem of the past.
Works 50% of the time.
I have iPhones, IPads, and Windows 11 systems. I’ve used #1NordVPN, #2HotSpot Shield, and Encrypt.me of the three it’s connection is intermittent and when it does connect it is slow no matter what server I try. I will not renew Encryptme. Purchase Eero + premium and Encrypt.me was apart of the suite. Do not purchase this product. Support does not reply.
Version 4.2.1 squashed the bug I had
Version 4.2.1 —————— - previous bug I had was fixed with 4.2.1 - now that its usable again, I can recommend Encrypt.me - update was a little slow, but I’m guessing my bug was hard to squash - SUPPORT was good, and response time was great. Actually getting somewhere with the support team was about 60% good, 40% bad... which is a complement... because my normal support I get with Microsoft is about 10% good, 90% bad. Version 4.2 —————— Used to be perfectly reliable under Cloak. Now, Encrypt.me ships with more bugs out of the gate. - won’t stay connected - VPN fails and the app logs out due to an error - reconnect attempt gets stuck connecting and blocks all WiFi communication - issue shows itself under Settings, General, then VPN- VPN shows disconnecting and never changes status.

Easy to use, simple instructions and high security.
Has not worked for 24 hours
Emailed them and they said their network was down. It’s 12 hours later and I still cannot connect on my iPhone

So far so good. The only thing that was annoying was that you can’t get rid of the ads fast enough. Only time will tell.
Doesn’t work
Used to be great but now our family plan is buggy and usually doesn’t work without a lot of effort. Support tries to help but app constantly requires handholding.
Okay but largely abandoned app, atrocious support
The app is okay when it works, but when it doesn't the support team is incredibly frustrating to deal with. They never provide solutions that solve the issue, and most of the time when you ping an existing thread they respond like it's the first time you've contacted them. I've lost count of how many times their support rep has asked me a question about something that is clearly stated in the email they're responding to. An okay app when it works, but you're on your own when it messes up. Also, it’s basically abandoned at this point, with many common features of other VPNs missing and no meaningful updates for years now.

Bought eero secure + Installed Encrypt.me Worked on ipad but not on iPhone and it won’t connect. Have follow help prompts and internet help. Reinstalled, rebooted. Such a bummer to pay for something that wastes time and adds frustration.

Diss appointed sometimes
Did not let me join any Wi-Fi spots when out and about town, Wi-Fi only worked when turned Encrypt.me off which defeats the object.
Works ok, but way too expensive
I find this app work fine. I just can’t justify the high price they are asking for it. Once my trial ends, I will delete the app

The last update was a year ago. Is the company still in business? The app no longer works and i dont know if its worth waiting for an update.
Mainly good again, but flaky in places
Original review 2016 Cloak does an excellent job of reliably automating VPN on untrusted networks, removing the need to remember to turn it on. Speeds have always good at consistently around 10 percent or so less than the uncloaked connection. The only issue I've had (reduced in frequency over time) is Cloak occasionally cutting in on my home network, leading to a moments confusion when accessing my NAS or Mac. Bringing it to the foreground ends the problem quickly. Not a flaw, but it's also worth bearing in mind when setting up a new IoT device with wifi, which often requires connecting to the devices ad hoc wifi during configuration. Cloak tries to establish a VPN on this new network, shutting you out from accessing the device - I banged my head in frustration for an hour setting up a Dyson fan before noticing (finally!!!) the VPN symbol at top left. Overall well implemented and worth the price. Edit Mar 2018: Unfortunately this previously excellent app has gone badly downhill since the merger and rebrand and the introduction of v4. The previously excellent auto connect feature rarely works on 3rd party wifi, usually getting stuck on ‘connecting’, and trying to disconnect gets it stuck in a similar state (but with a ‘disconnect’ message) that persists even after the ios wifi is shut off entirely. Reinstalling will often fix the issue, although the fix wont last. IOS 11.1 seems to have improved auto connect a bit, but whether that will last is another matter. There seem to be a number of other reviews here with exactly the same issues. Edit June 2018: previous speed issues solved (my fault), but still somewhat flaky with connection issues on 3rd party networks as above (although it has improved), especially those where the bandwidth is low to start with.
not sure about this service
Since installing, iPhone SE 2020 seems to have trouble locking on to work-fi. It pushes me back on data randomly. Also, listening experience to streaming audio became all glitchy & stacatto. It's like going backwards in time to those days when signals were weak & seamless internet was a hope for the future. Now it's just worse because we're supposed to be ther, but in reality sure don't seem to be.
Variable
Long time user. App goes through periods of being unusable, since the rebrand it has been bad. App crashes all the time. Auto secure keeps trying to connect the vpn even when disabled or a trusted network. Often blocks the iPhone personal hotspot from connecting. I’ve tried lots of combinations to get it to work, but often the only solution is to delete the app, restart the phone, connect to the WiFi, then reinstall the app and login to the app. Update: deep in the iOS settings there is a another connection control in a second vpn menu different from the vpn toggle switch on the first settings screen, in General>VPN>EncryptMe>ConnectOnDemand. By turning this off I can get an initial connection. But that setting is not always remembered! Maybe linked to AutoSecure?

Use this app quite a lot but often it will fail to connect even when the internet connection is good. Restarting app, phone connecting to a different location all make no difference

It’s nice to know that I didn’t have a working VPN for who knows how long because the certificate was expired and it couldn’t be bothered to tell me to update it. Very poor UX.
A few points
Generally good, but there are some issues 1) doesn't always play well on those hotel wifi with popup screens for access. Need to disable to complete the access form 2) when travelling, let me have vpn free access to Netflix without having to turn off cloak for everything else 3) I'm sorry, but encrypt.me is a stupid name. Please don't change it from cloak 4) when you need to use that many exclamation points to announce a name change, it comes across as somewhat unhinged
Failing more and more
This app used to be really good, but more and more it refuses to connect or says there is a problem with the network.
Great product but...
The auto connect feature makes Cloak stand out above all others. The Mac version is clunky and does not play ball when you try to disable it. Where Cloak falls flat is not providing an option to block adds/malware. This should be simple to set up based on DNS. Please provide this service as Cloak is quite expensive for what it does.

I really liked this VPN until a few days ago. Now I can’t get it to work at all. My account says I don’t have access. I e mailed for help but no joy. I just renewed. Seems as if I am out about $100.

It's rare if not a first that I would write a review so soon after downloading an app. I did for Cloak, but that was years ago. Now for a 2017 view. Cloak is a simple and efficient VPN that seamlessly integrates with your Mac, iPad or iPhone. The app is minimalist in design, easy to install and usually starts automatically when needed. On the downside, it can be slow to connect especially through hotel wi-fi. In recent times it's price has increased which leaves it open to more competition. However, it continues to be developed by the original designers and looks to be around for a while longer.
