- App crashes and loses your place
- Navigation is confusing and buggy
Daily Reader
This app is great! Easy to keep up with the daily happenings in the 505
An ‘enhanced’ app that failed
What a worthless app. At least three times a week, the newspaper fails to load, or insists that I am not logged in just after I have logged in yet again. When it does ‘work’, it is hard to navigate. I keep setting page view preferences and they randomly change to a different view, sometimes in a single session. Bring back the old app, please!
Bad Start
App unreliable so far. Difficult to navigate and hard to see on an iPhone. Based on my experience I would have to say that the Journal needs to hire more competent IT staff.
Released upgrade before ready
Weeks after rolling out Journal app upgrade it is still very buggy. My wife is so frustrated she now refuses to use the app and doesn’t want to renew our subscription>. we use apple ipads. i have the larger ipad and have been able to work around bugs but wife has smaller ipad and continuously has issues…getting error notices and taking her back unexpectantly to beginning of paper. Very frustrating!
New version
Your new version is very hard to navigate. It keeps flipping back and forth. Some days I have to reboot my iPad several times.
When it works it works
The journal app is easy to use and fast when it is running and unloaded. On out of town trips works great to catch up on local news.
“Improvements” gut Functionality
TLDR: Avoid this app and get Albuquerque Jrnl Print Edition instead. Before the app was “improved” a couple of weeks ago, it was a joy to use. It was easy to pan and zoom the reproductions of the pages from the paper. If I briefly left the app then returned, it would still be on the page I left it on. I never had any problems with getting logged out whenever I changed networks. Now it’s just the opposite and it has become unnecessary strenuous to read my local paper. It is a travesty this obviously bug-ridden update was even written at all. Maybe the Journal thinks they can get away with this being the only game in town. Shame. Protip: I just discovered another app called “Albuquerque Jrnl Print Edition.” It works just like the old version of this app did. Get that one and forget this one ever existed.
Annoying pop up ads
App has pop up ads. Will not remember current page if you leave the app. Have to close the pop up ad and scroll to correct page every time. App also crashes much more often. Bring back the previous version!
Ads
I extremely disagree with the decision to add advertising as the starting point in opening the app. I already pay for a subscription and to have advertising even before the newspaper launches is terrible. Very unhappy. The app was great in the last edition.
Great start to my day! Thank you for the service.
Appreciate being able to stay connected on local events.
Production
It would seem that when your job is to put out the paper everyday you would have a quality control plan in place to review what you produce. No need to proof read just review to make sure the paper is complete. If the paper was only screwed once every 6 months it would be acceptable but every day is an adventure when I try to download. Well at least Garcia automotive should be happy they always get one or two ads in what ever you produce. I wrote this months ago and it just gets worse. Today can’t get the ejournal sends me to resign in but won’t accept my password. I read the journal for the local news and sports as I have for over 50 years but like so many others I know we are considering canceling or subscription.
Can’t control reading paper using application!
See title!
On line papers don’t give you the coupons
Me
Horrible new app
It routinely fails to load the current edition and the user interface is much, much worse. You often have to close the app to change pages or articles and I KNOW how to use it.
It keeps getting worse
Wow. This version is quite awful.
Great job
The Albuquerque Journal app is always there for my wife and me when we are out of town or the printed version is delayed. Thank you
Doesn't work
Hangs up. Page selection doesn't work. Difficult to swipe pages right and left. Text zooms without warning. Awkward to use.
Educator
Love my e-Journal.
Nor as good as previous app
It is buggy, can’t get full page open article to work in landscape mode. If you leave the app it goes back to first page or tell you it doesn’t work and you try several times, it sucks
Great start to morning!
This Journal app is easy to use and gives a good summary of major news in the fields you are interested in (local, Santa Fe, nation, sports, etc.). It helps inform without overwhelming. It is arranged in a visually appealing format, with large photos; and many articles come with an easy to access grouping of photos. The content seems very non-biased, non-partisan. So important these days. Many human interest stories along with the standard news we all need. My favorite news source out of a dozen I follow.
It doesn’t work!!
This app really sucks and it has for the last 3 weeks, since they put out the new version.
Great local news!
Love having this app! Whenever I have a moment, I can catch up on the news easily
Bad
I’m 87 yrs old and I’m going to give up my electronic edition of the Journal and read the paper edition in the library at LVL. I can’t read this copy without losing it and trying to get it back. And getting stupid messages, like not authorized. Too damn complicated for this old man.
Great newspaper!
It’s so nice to live in a city with a QUALITY newspaper, especially after the lousy newspaper in the Texas town I grew up in and lived in. The Journal has only gotten better since the new editor took over a few months ago. I hope the people of ABQ realize how lucky they are to have the accurate reporting and balanced opinion page of this newspaper, especially during these times of disinformation. The app is a great way to access this newspaper. Please keep up the great work, Albuquerque Journal!
Really Bad
I would give negative 5 if I could. Constantly kicked out of app. Navigation is terrible.

Great
App not working
The new app is dysfunctional…can’t access e Editions. This is not why I pay for a subscription. I have come to haste it
