What people like
- Good for local news updates
- Great way to stay informed
- Love the app overall
What they complain about
- Ads interrupt you constantly
- Videos won't rotate on iPad
- Notifications are pure clickbait
- Text is too small to read
Misspelling
Someone needs to check the spelling on some of the articles, the article about the woman killed in the 17-A crash states with no mention of a vehicle that (it struck a semi) so the statement refers to the woman as a it. Not good.
March 2026 App update
New app update was designed for advertisers, not viewers. Removing full newscasts and forcing us to click through a dozen 'segmented' clips is a blatant move to juice ad revenue at the expense of the user experience.
Not for me
Too many “mandatory” commercials one must be forced to watch before a news headline—nope, deleted.
Closed Caption
Love the app , just need a way to view it without closed caption !
Good news
Good news
I hope you hate functional apps!!
Garbage coomercials, random ad walls, all of the sponsored links work, but guess what??? The actual headline links don't work at all!! If you love getting stupid updates at 0700 and hate when an app works correctly, this garbage app is for garbage people just like you!!
Weather
Very annoying excessive ads and difficulty navigating and loading!
App Freezes
Downloaded app a couple days ago. When a push notification comes through, the app freezes on the logo, so can't read the article. Other than that, it's good to keep up with the local news.
Sponsored posts
What the heck is up with the AI photos of old people dying in the stills of all the donated posts after an arricle?
News printing is too small
The print for the stories is much too small to comfortably read. Characters need to be enlarged.
Glitchy
Videos don’t rotate and expand on my phone. I already deleted and reinstalled the app because videos would not even load. At least I have audio and tiny videos now.⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ads.
Why all the ads and false links. It is a shame when you come to this app to get latest news or weather information and instead you get ads.
Privacy? Beware
Do not like the fact that the app misleads you into accepting the fact that you will be tracked @ your information sold. You have to take steps to have your information concealed via more than one link deep in the settings.
RE D AMERICAN MADE
Don't know if it's worth the time of day
iPad
App in my apple iPad does not rotate to landscape. This is a recent change. The weather app does rotate. Something has changed. All other apps work and auto rotate.
Why do I have to turn my iPad to view the news?
You guys changed, I now look at channels 2 & 4 because I don’t have to turn my iPad! I’m old so set in my ways, you guys used to be my no. 1 pick!
Too many notifications
This app would be great however Live 5 pushes way too many notifications. I like to stay up on local news but their pushes are too excessive. Had to delete
Sick of the clickbait notification headlines
The notifications that this app sends are pure clickbait. They are not helpful, and you are forced to open the app and sift through all the ads in order to actually get the information that should be in the notification headline
Full page ad
When you open the 5 app now you have to wait for a full page as to play, ridiculous! I want to open the news app!
👎🏻
It says when “live” news is not available that most recent newscast will be shown. No, it shows news from other areas not even in SC. Then went to watch a replay of “most recent newscast” and the most recent program was from the previous day.
Not in landscape
I absolutely hate this update. It will not open in landscape for reading on my IPad. I don’t really use it anymore.
Love having the news at ease…
I do not care for the amount of interruptions I get from the ads you sell to get revenue. More often I see ad space sold to whichever advertisers give the most. Seems like after reading a news article from a local perspective, you should not be bombarded with ads that have nothing to do with the article itself. If you were to target an audience that “would” click on an ad after reading an article, you would do better than “Click now! See how this person was zit free in a day!”. I also understand that you get clicks on these ad spaces by accident which would still net some monetary value. Clean it up is all I ask. Streamline the experience like others have. Please. I still do appreciate the reporting done. I still try to get through the ads you have to read the news. I still have the app. Just asking for a more refined ad space. Not open it up to just press an X button!? Makes no sense.
Too many ads
Too many ads. Ads are very difficult to navigate around.
Can’t get past first ad
When launching the app, half the time the ad will load. I close it, the. It reopens, preventing use of the app. Bad developers it seems.
Updates not good!!!!!
The updated app will not display landscape and I am primarily a iPad user with a keyboard. It is too aggravating to pick up my device and turn it sideways when I have a keyboard attached so I will not be using this app until fixed, and until now, it was my go-to local news app. Must be the same folks that did the update to SCFCU in Charleston that really messed up theirs too….really, how hard is it to compile for use in landscape. I have not even reviewed the other pros and cons of the update due to the display issue.
