What people like
- Fun and humorous content daily.
- Easy to use interface.
- Wide variety of good topics.
What they complain about
- Ads interrupt you constantly.
- Images often fail to load.
- App crashes or freezes frequently.
- Captions cover up the pictures.
Caption gets in the way!
Can you please fix the Caption at the bottom of the screen from cutting off the bottom or most recently, all of the screen? Otherwise, awesome app and luv it! ❤️
Bad ads declining content
This app used to be funny every now and then. Now it’s hardly ever. Content has declined in quality and gotten dumber. Worst of all are the ads. If you ever wondered what sub-Temu quality marketing via AI slop looks like, by all means download this app.
Intrusive Adds
Content is not as good as it once was but still ok. Adds are intrusive to the point of closing the app.
Come on man
There are too many ads that are taking up so much space that they look like they are a part of the photo gallery
TMI
I wish they would quit posting some fat guy in his underwear for weight loss as their advertising.
Done!
Browsed the chive from the beginning, recently the app only works for a few hours a week, every time I open it I get the “ oops something went wrong “ message, now when I open it I get text and no images, done the usual, shut down/reboot, delete/ reinstall numerous times. Not good, I’m done!
Ad apocalypse
The app has been so overly filled with ads it's getting unbearable to use.
Bug fix please
I’ve had this app for the last 10 years and absolutely love it. But within the last, at least month most pics won’t show up. Not all pics, only some. Some categories none will show and other categories a few will. I’ve tried different internet, deleted the app and reinstalled, signed out and back in and nothing fixes it. Is it just me or is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks.
New editors ruined it
This used to be a great app with a great community and great galleries. This young generation is killing it. The sports guy for them doesn’t understand sports. Other young ones interject their poorly understood politics into every gallery. What once made this app and community great, unfortunately it is dying
Ads and Paid Memberships???
Never thought I'd see the day The Chive became just like everyone else.
Nastalgick
Had the app in 2011 on 3gs ran like a nugget
Used to be good
Ever since this app switched up it is not good. Bring back the old Chive!
Thank you
Thank you for fixing the issue with the highlighting for viewed posts. For someone who cannot always keep up daily with the content this served as a bookmark to help not miss any content. Thank you
Ads getting out of control
I have had theCHIVE installed for as long as I can remember.. like since before my children and have never ever complained about the ads as much as I have recently. You can’t even scroll anymore with out it trying to send you to the App Store. Super disheartening
Still cant get a simple gallery app to work
Ok - the superspeed gif issue is fixed, the freezing and over-heating is fixed… But you introduced a new bug. When browsing galleries on ipad at random intervals an image or gif gets skipped. Theres no way to stop and view that image, the app skips right by it.
Good vs Bad
Great site, Slow load
Probably, the worst app in the world
Delete it fast
App
Just wondering if anybody else has contacted you about having problems opening the main page of your app
Captions
Please fix the captions. Ideally, go back to putting them beneath the images. If you can’t do that, at least change your spacing so the caption above is tight to the image and the one below (for the following image) is not and has a gap.
Latest Update
Do not do the latest updates!!! Can no longer save pictures or view categories correctly.
Cat Saturday
That is my favorite. But all the animal ones are cute.
C'mon man!
I love the Chive. I support the Chive. I'm a Chiver for life. But the app.... Just when I think things are starting to get better - bam! It gets broken again. Most of the photos do not load/display. I can see them if I tap the grid view, but cannot see them normally. And the captions are still not fixed. I think it's been a year now. One step forward, two steps back. I still love you guys, though. KCCO.
App problems?
The app will not load on my phone. It keeps saying “oops, something went wrong”. Are there issues?
Downhill Fast
How does The Chive want people to subscribe to the app when each update takes features away? Things that I used to be able to do on the app: scroll back and see if I already looked at a particular gallery, it would show that it was viewed. The search and favorites don’t work at all. If I’m paying for a subscription they need to work, this is very basic stuff. Seems like whoever runs the app is somebody’s nephew or friend who can’t get fired no matter how much they screw up. Lastly taking away the hotness all together, not even making it an option or subscription upgrade is a sellout move. I’ve been with the Chive from way back in the beginning. It’s a shadow of its former glory.
Fix the captions please
Brilliant site but has niggles every now and then. This time the captions have disappeared. On top of this it’s now starting to freeze. GIFS running fast is awful. Please fix
Awesome but frustrating
This is most definitely one of my favorite sites with awesome content which I visit daily, but on many occasions the site is very slow and content doesn't load (and no, it's not my device or internet speed that is at fault). Other than that - absolutely brilliant.
Terrible layout pt 2
I can read the captions, but now pictures do not appear. So pretty much 98% of the posts and content are blank if there’s an image with captions at the bottom. Please fix!
Great Way to Pass A Few Minutes
The Chive has been a long time favorite website for me and the is great to have on your iPhone or iPad to keep up with all the fun and humorous things they do.
Almost can’t use because of set up
Should be an easy mindless app to scroll. However, it’s set up so that if you move your thumb one micro nano teeny quarter of a half of a centimeter to either the left or the right, whatever page your on disappears and it goes to the next one. Incredibly frustrating and should have been fixed by now.
Not as good as it once was
This used to be a great app, for the last year or so it’s become unavailable. Crashes every 5 minutes on both of my phones.
Awesomeness
Brilliant way to share funnies and fun with like minded people! Love the Daily randomness!
Glitchy
iPad app. Most/many of the posts do not have the descriptions for each slide so there is no context and they don’t make any sense. Pull down to refresh doesn’t work, so I have to close and reopen the app to see anything new. Not the end of the world, but I find myself opening this app less and less often because of this. Latest update there’s some text but no images.
Awesome.
Awesome
Please fix it
Every time it updates just keeps getting worse. Does nobody at chive use the app?
Fix some issues
Issues like Some descriptions under photos that are on the website are not on the app Gifs on the app are way too fast
Chive
Wide variety of good content! Supports landscape mode on iOS10 and great interface. Being a long time supporter of Chive, the ads are not a bother at all.
Done with CHIVE for now after this update
Everything you’ve read is true - after a terrible update that made the app glitchy and difficult, they found a way to make it even worse. I’ve enjoyed it for years but now it’s useless. This lifetime member is moving on until it gets straightened out. How did they mess this up so bad?
Great app I've had it for ages and still works awesome!! Chive on peeps n_nl
Pretty great app use it a lot c: gave it 4 stars because the videos don't play on my device.
Chive PopUp Ads the Worst Ever
Love the Chive content however the pop up ad for Ferring Phama that constantly pops up and takes over my phone on a ceaseless basis is hands down the worst thing I’ve encountered on any app or site ever!!!! If Chive thinks I’m going to pay to look at their content ad free they’re delusional. Next step is just to delete the app altogether due to this infuriating s/@t and just stop Chiving. Please enough is enough already. Chive On.
Like Chive, dislike the app
Current version (IOS): - kills the battery - grinds to a standstill after reading a few feeds, which requires completely restarting the app. - pop-ups galore Unfortunately, totally kills the experience to the point where I hardly access the Chive anymore. Not a paying member and would never become one with such a poor app experience.
Great app but no iPhone5! Ahhhhh
I love the chive. But my trusty iPhone 5 standard. The one that fits nicely into the palm of my hand is now too old? Please add support again. My chive app version is a bit dodgy and I'd really like updates.
Broken, again
Once again, it’s broken. This time, images don’t even show up. So for years it’s been impossible to read the captions and see the 8mage, and now the images are just dark. How is this possible, in the age of AI? It’s actually kind of a disgrace. A drunk college kid could do better vibe coding. Anybody who worked on this project should quit.
Fantastic
Enjoy this.
Continuously crashes if logged in
When authenticated with paid account, the Chive App crashes each time you go away from it for more than 10 seconds. Won’t let you move to another app otherwise you have to close and reopen. The Chive is just swan diving to their ending.
Why is it so broken all the time
The design of this app is soooo bad. For something so simple you should work on the basics of navigation and content loading.. I like the funny content and it’s a great distraction but sometimes it bricks my phone just with its sheer weight of appalling app design. How?!
Chives app
It's good
No pics after last update
Several sections don’t display any pics on IPad. I see maybe 40% of pics
Chive On
Awesome app, always new content, easy to use, and hump day... Need I say MOAR?
Unable to like galleries
With the mychive gone, please bring back to the ability to like galleries in the app. Otherwise there isnt much of a benefit to keeping the app if I have to go through a website
50/50
Brilliant app when it works. The ads are annoying but if you swipe through each item you can get past them. Biggest problem is it crashes all the time. Won’t even let me open it some days so have to reinstall it.
