What people like
- Great for local community news
- Easy to watch live streams
- Good for checking local events
What they complain about
- Ads interrupt you constantly
- Videos play without asking
- App crashes or won't open
- Too many annoying notifications
Great!
Love the new update. Easy to watch livestream and the newscasts below it.
Well, it’s an app
I might give it a better review if the notification number on the badge (iOS) ever went away, or if you would pay attention to the reviews before me saying the same thing. Apparently “Gray” isn’t just the title of the media company. It also describes the area of experience the app developer has with knowing the audience.
Needs more
This app could be a better one if it had a dark mode option, not everyone can see the text easily some people have poorer vision and the bright white background makes reading a lot of strain on their eyes. Otherwise it is a good app that’s why I give it four stars for n.
Trash
The new update and change is trash. Glitchy scrolling and notification (red dot) won’t go away even after deleting and redownloading. Kinda trashy but par for Topeka?
Adds, adds, adds
Every time I click on a story I have to suffer through another meaningless advertisement! I guess the only option is to not click on the story? Works for me!
Local News Power
I love WIBW news. Local community news is still a much needed thing. It’s crazy how fast the news cycle is these days. Local reports still need a liaison for clarity.
Ads
Hate the auto play that can’t be turned offf
Needs some help
Getting past the first ad doesn’t always happen. I sometimes have to re-open he app 2-3 times before it will stay open. It will frequently flash open then close again. I’ve also noticed since the update that the text in the articles overlaps the ads within the article making it very hard to read. Grammar and spelling is also a little choppy at times. I really do understand the need to get the information out fast, but spell check only takes a few extra seconds. Also, things are not “involved” in flames, they are “engulfed”.
Hate new app
So many advertisements. Trying to clear the notification on the app and no matter where I go it still has a 1 showing I have a notification. It’s annoying!!!!
Topeka
It’s ok
WIBW News
I like the old way it looked and how notifications came. I do not like this new update. Please fix this. Plus to many ads!
Video autoplay is annoying
Autoplay in video has no option in settings to disable. Please fix this!
Notifications Blow-up
This app use to NOT be annoying, but in the past month it has become too exaggerated with all of the notifications alerts. The alert sound you receive does get your attention, as it should ( when your volume is turned up ), however, whoever is controlling those notifications seems to be putting sooo much more topics and stories under this “ Notifications” worthy categories AND, I have gone into the settings and have turn off a couple of the options only leaving “Breaking News” as the category I want to be alerted for because my phone goes off far too often and I’m thinking something real important is happening when in fact, it really isn’t. One may become desensitized to their alert sound. You can check on certain things you want to be notified for like “Breaking News” or “Sports” and like I said, I only have “Breaking News” turned on, but I just received a notification and at the top of it it falls under “Trending”, one of the other categories. I don’t even have that notification topic turned on, so hopefully whoever’s responsible for these notifications can get this corrected. Thanks🙂
New app
If I could give a true score to the new app, as of March 26, it would be a negative 5. This app is an entire pain in the patootie. I try to always keep an open mind especially with change. But nothing works correctly and I’m about to delete all WIBW content from my devices.
Not Reliable
Since I don’t have cable, I use the app to catch previous news casts through Zeam. Some days it works, some days it doesn’t. Today, in trying to watch the 6 PM news, I was able to find previous newscasts, but the ability to pause them or fullscreen them did not exist. It existed yesterday. Other times previous newscasts aren’t even there. Not sure who drops the ball in that case. I suppose if you’re going to offer an app, maybe it should be reliable and work.
Weather
Don’t like it talking to me- it won’t shut up even when exiting the app
Annoying
If you don’t mind excessive ads and unsolicited videos popping up - go for it!
Won’t Open
After latest update (11/19/21) the app doesn’t open. Worthless and unreliable. Ended up dumping this app and went to KSNT News app.
Warnings
Why do you have to sound that siren when you issue a weather statement? It's confusing and alarming. I see nothing in my settings that allow me to turn it off. And if I was able to turn it off, will l lose the ability of getting the siren if there really is a tornado spotted? Thank you
Latest update
The latest update is a mess. If I didn’t want to know what was going on locally I’d delete the app immediately
Need an answer
Why does this App lock up when you are trying to get it? Maybe you don’t want to answer the question so you don’t take any of my nicknames
It’s Average.
I use it frequently to see what’s going on in the local area. No major complaints. Only recommendation would be to get rid of the advertisement that pops up when opening the app. The picture of that man and woman is annoying!
Annoyed
I don’t like this updated version
Deceiving
The ads are annoying but I’m more alarmed by the misleading clickbait articles scattered in the feed that look identical to legitimate local stories. I only use this app when I absolutely have to.
Got real weird
when you scroll..more ads and weird stuff, unable to upload screen shots
App issues
I use to love the app, but recently the app will only load the adds and nothing else will show. When you close the app and go back into it, the problem still isn’t resolved. I had the app set up to send me notifications and when I click on the notification to see the full article the app will pop up then close out. I unfortunately had to switch to the KSNT app.
Doesn’t load
Takes forever to load. I’d give it a 5 star if it would just load!!!
v4.0.13 fails w/iOS 12.5.7
Launches to blank white screen that disappears but is still launched and must be force quit. iOS 12.5.7 was 1/23/23, and greater than 8% of all users today. That’s failure for 1-in-12 users in a competitive market where the apps for competition works perfectly still. KSNT app works!
