Dislike the Changes
Whatever you did to the format, this is NOT good! O used to be able to choose the newspaper whose obituary I’m interested in reading, but now all the names are listed together from all over the place. And one in particular that I wanted to read told me that I had to be a subscriber to read that one. 😡 WHY change
Good but legal coverage could be improved
I think MLIVE does a great job covering most things in our state. One place they could improve is on their legal/crime coverage. They often quote the prosecutor but rarely quote or identify the defense attorney. I think the coverage could be more balanced.

Bug report
Trying to view obituaries in the app used to work until the latest update. Now it says “no articles for now”. If I want to see them, I have to visit the website. This is one reason I use the app.

Horrible
Spouse and I have subscribed continuously for years. After latest update unable to read subscriber stories even after deleting app and reinstalling and clicking restore purchase… over and over and over. Going back to the Detroit Free Press.

Great app for Michigan
One of the best news and sports sites for Michigan in a clean and easy-to-use iOS format. Now I don't have to go to my computer to read about the Lions and Red Wings! It just needs the user comments enabled, and it'll be good to go.
Crashes
Gets progressively worse with each update. It won’t load without numerous attempts. If it does load, it will crash while looking at an article. There is no way I would subscribe to this nearly useless app.
Good content, rediculous advertising
I'd expect a company I support financially to support me by removing the annoying advertising. While somewhat annoying for some, I'm a blind user who depends on screen reading technology. The ads interrupt my reading experience and often place me on the entirely wrong spot on the page when they change. I would give them an A for content, but an f- in terms of delivery. Ive already canceled my renewal of the subscription, since it's such a pain to use. Please do better so I can renew!

Loading problems etc
They need to figure out technical aspects of app. Most times it won’t open. When it does open it’s slow and sometime unresponsive.
Too many articles need subscription.
This use to be a good app until the majority of current articles can only be viewed through a paid subscription. If ads are needed to generate revenue, so be it. Asking readers to pay now is just greedy! I’ll keep the app to read the occasional “free” article or until it becomes fully subscription based.
Unlimited ads zero stories available
This platform used to be wonderful for getting Michigan news it has gradually gotten worse over the years there are now near zero articles you can view without a subscription
Slow slow slow! And too many ads
I’m a subscriber as I believe reporters deserve to be paid. And I accept that a certain amount of advertisement is also needed to support a “newspaper”. But this app is becoming unusable. It’s extremely slow to load not just initially but also for every news section and article. And the new permanent ads at the bottom of articles further shrinks the reading space on my phone screen.
App needs work
Great coverage but scrolling through photo galleries manually has been broken for months as of 3-2024.
Impossible app
I have to sign in for every story and still get ads to join. And the family feature doesn’t work at all. My husband has been on the phone and emails 14 times and no resolution 14 TIMES! I’m concerned how hard it’s going to be to cancel this garbage
Drowning in subscriptions
I have used the mlive app for many years. It’s a good app but there are now so many articles behind the paywall I don’t find much I can read. The free stuff is just Dear Abbey and “how to watch” some tv show. So….not actual news. I could subscribe to see the news articles but my budget isn’t without it’s limits. Sadly, I am deleting the app 👋
Inconsistent
Update 2021: Reviewed this app two years ago and loved it. Since then MLive has switched to paid subscription for some stories, and taken the commenting away. Two big missteps in my opinion, and I spend a lot less time on this app now. Grew up in Michigan, MSU grad and big fan. My wife and I plan to retire in Michigan in a couple of years. Like MLive for the variety of stories they cover, there’s something for everyone. Writing skill levels are inconsistent, but I understand how difficult it is to have editors read every single clip that is posted. Comment section is great, now that the mute feature is there. Would like to get feedback on why comments might get flagged, especially if I send an email requesting that feedback. Just because another flags a comment doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with that comment. Some moderators are trigger happy and need guidelines. Please link a screen name with an email address. Too many people stealing screen names and throwing out trashy comments acting as another. Needs to stop. Overall, a great idea, good product. Wish Illinois had ILive.
DO NOT SUBSCRIBE
i have a subscription and i want to cancel it, but there’s no way to do it. no one to contact. no letters to the editor to express my disgust with what they choose to entice me with in my emails. no phone number to call. no email address to use. when they send an email with a link to a story i can’t read it until i sign in. of i go to the app to look for the story, its no where to be found. there cant possibly be enough positive reviews for them to have more than two stars. they are really awful. i’m being stolen from because i have no way to cancel my subscription. to hell with this business. it’s a rip off.

Dark mode problems
I can’t turn off dark mode and I can’t read the words with dark mode on because I have vision issues. If I could turn the dark mode off that would be great. This is really frustrating because I read your paper every morning but if dark mode is going to stay on like this I can’t do it anymore.

Poor performance
Slow to load, laggy articles, clickbait-y articles.
glitches make app unusable
I click a notification to read a story and the app opens, freezes, and crashes. If I want to actually read a story, I have to search for it myself in a browser. Sometimes the app will work for a moment but then it will freeze and crash. I’ve reinstalled, updated, and everything—this has been an ongoing issue.
