I have looked in detail at every other EFB and AvPlan is simply the best in the world.
Dreadful
Used it for a couple of years and gave up. Whenever I really needed it it failed so had to use a paper map. I now use OzRunways which works fine.

Interface is a disaster
These tools are meant to be a planning tool and perhaps a nav aid, nothing more. It takes 20 min to plan a flight with Oz runways first time you pick it up. Takes 20 min to do it with a pen and paper if you have access to the information you need. Several weeks later and this thing doesn’t even recognise the performance data that I have selected let alone leave the planning stage. It keeps crashing and the amount of attention it needs in the air is outright dangerous due to the sub par layout and buttons. Save your time an money an get a map plus calculator. Or OzRunways..
Just go OzRunways
Just about every feature is inferior and missing so many features of OzRunways. The UI is severely outdated and looks like something designed about 20 years ago with clearly no proper UI/UX designers being consulted. It’s missing a lot of features that OzRunways has and accessing the same information is cumbersome at best. If I wasn’t forced to use this by my company I absolutely wouldn’t use it.
Fantastic Tool
This is an amazing tool that helps with your situation awareness and makes Flight planning easy. From taxiing on the ground to navigating around sensitive areas to staying out of weather. An extremely well thought out program.
Cumbersome to use
Would be heads down in an emergency because of the UI whilst the plane plummets to the ground.... but hey, am sure our company gets a discount to iron out all the design faults

Bring wx overlay back an the old windy Windy used to let you drop a pin to get forecasts an also web cams etc
Advertised as free, isnt.
App forces you to delete the app if you dont want to buy their subscription or sign up for the free trial. Its okay for apps like this to require subscriptions since not many people will be using them, but when I read the description and nothing is said about pricing and the app is available for free, i expect there to be a limited features available without cost. Im sure this app is great but I just dont feel like signing up for a subscription.
Transitioning between apps
Some things are done really well, some things are illogical in the input method. Inflight is OK.

I purchased the pro upgrade which is supposed to provide Geo referencing. The upgrade does not provide Geo referencing for airport diagram norm for approach plates as advertised.

Excellent for commercial & private operations VFR & IFR. I have used it as an instructor, charter pilot, and EFB administrator as well as in personal flying. I would recommend over OzRunways any day of the week.
Program isn't worth downloading!
I have downloaded the program, and I had installed it. The problem with the program is creating an aircraft to meet the specs of the one your are flying. I created my aircraft and put in the specs. but the program wouldn't let me add the necessary information necessary to do the weight and balance. Before downloading, and using, I'd suggest asking them what aircraft they have and if it is like yours.
Mostly great , sometimes tricky to manage.
Last year I tried the trial version of AVPlan as well as Oz Ruways in Australia. I’m a CFII in the US and use ForeFlight extensively there with ADSB in capability . This year I purchased the AVPlan NZ VFR subscription for my flying. There is a learning curve to all three, but I find AVPlan to require the most practice to gain proficiency. That said, I like the flight plan feature and its flexibility. Using it for VFR flying in NZ has been very helpful. It syncs well with my Airways IFIS and Met briefings. The AIP document search feature could use a better bookmark naming and organizing function as that is useful when searching unfamiliar regs in a new country. I have also been unable to properly sync with DropBox which contains my library of aviation and aircraft manuals. I do miss the ability to covert my completed flight log to a logbook entry and produce endorsements, signatures and applications for ratings. Customer service is excellent and I recommend this program.

After getting used to it, I won’t use another EFB. I fly charter in a light turbo-prop and I would definitely say that this EFB pays for itself in less than a week. How? To easily and accurately choose the optimum flight level - that means saving valuable minutes and valuable fuel. This EFB exceeded my expectations again and again. I’m talking flight times +/- 1 minute and fuel burn to within 1%. Obviously, it requires a bit of work on the aircraft profile. But once you get it “dialled in” it works like a dream. SIX STARS

Great Ap for New Zealand.
VFR OK, IFR not fit for purpose
Apart from the disproportional expense, the number of georeference errors on NZ IFR charts are too scary for me to consider this app. Try NZKK RNAV 15 or most NZNS STARs and RNAVs. What is even more worrying is that I reported these errors to support and after a full year they are still unresolved. So, good moving map. I don’t trust the rest.

Unfortunately I’ve been booted off the company subscription since I’m going to a new job that uses a competitor (starts with F and ends in oreflight), but avplan has served me flawlessly for the last 5 years. Customer support is always great. I’ll need to get my hands on an avplan hat so I can rep the brand worldwide. Thanks for making a great and local product.

I absolutely love this app!! What would be mor awesome is it's ability to have the same features for New Zealand aswel. I would personally buy this app and spend money on subs if NZ was included aswel. Looking forward to Ewing updates of this in the future!! Regards,

App appears to have a lot potential but a lot of bugs. No sound on tutorials Different views would layer on top of each other keeping you from seeing things. I liked the attempt, simply needs work.
