What people like
- Good for reading full printed editions
- Interface looks nice and clean
- Covers local community news well
What they complain about
- App crashes and pages won't load
- Hard to read on small screens
- Drains battery even when not used
- No search function inside the app
Not great
Hard to navigate around, esp bad on the phone - text enlarges randomly and won’t read horizontally
Meh
I read the TNT to keep up on local news. What is lacking is true stories from someone who loves this community and it comes through with a way that inspires the reader to also love and engage in Tacoma. Tacoma is so special and the paper should do a better job of reporting with passion. There are so many great things and wonderful work happening in Tacoma. Share it with the reader. Inspire the reader to be in community. Share stories about non profits, that inspire community to get involved.
App not easy to use
This app is hard to understand and how to read the paper. They have a printed edition that is only published a few times a week, you can’t click on an article and read it in full so you have to zoom in to read it. But you don’t want to read this edition because it overlaps the eEdition. Then there’s the eEdition which you read daily and click on the article to read it in full, but only if you don’t get an error and you click retry and never comes up, then you wonder if you read all the news or not? I like reading other newspapers like The Wall Street Journal or The Daily World (Aberdeen, WA) where it’s only the printed editions and see the format like a regular newspaper but click on the article and read it in full and make font adjustments for easier reading. Finally, where is the local news? Only an average of 5 local stories for a county population of over 900,000? I want local news to read, you can get all the other news anywhere else on the Internet.
Tacoma News Tribune
TNT hates senior citizens. Not all seniors have technology skills and they are cutting back on our paper news to satisfy people who stare at their devices all the time. We are a huge number and being pushed aside like we don’t mean anything to society that wants to force people into only using technology. Technology has gotten out of control example the damage drones can do and it’s only a matter of time before we will be afraid to leave our homes. So ignore the seniors you will probably totally fold before long so TNT employees better start looking for new jobs technology will replace even you.
App requires system upgrade that old iPhone pad won’t support
I pad won’t support iOS 17. Now I can’t read the paper cause the old app won’t run. Buy new iPad or stop paper? The cost effective solution hurts you. Why are all the nicknames taken?
Glitching out
For some reason, this app has been glitching out on me for a week or so. I tried crashing the app, then deleting the app and adding it again, restarting my phone, nothing works. I’m a TNT subscriber too. This is quite frustrating.
TNT
All I want is to have a full size replica of the print newspaper. I read the Seattle Times, The NY Times, and the Washington Post every day in addition to the TNT. I want a full size replica on my IPAD not a 1/4 size one that I cannot figure out how to expand. Unhappy reader
Newest McClatchy update cannot be loaded on 5th generation iPad
IPadOS Version 17.0 is not available for 5th generation iPads so I don’t have the ability to read the Tacoma News Tribune. Who can I thank for this great customer service?
Previous version was better
After they revamped the entire app it’s been nothing but problematic. The videos rarely play on my iPad and the app itself randomly and frequently shuts down. The only way to get it to work somewhat properly is to reset my iPad. Before the upgrade there were few if any problems. The only thing that seems to actually work is reading the published paper edition.
Poor interface
I do not like this app at all, jumps all over and makes it difficult to read the whole story. It is also hard to make the font larger and get the whole article you are trying to read.
Can no longer use
I need a new iPad to use this new upgraded tnt app! I have the 16 and this requires a 17
Search option
Maybe it’s just me but I can’t find a way to search on the app. I’ll see an article on social media that I want to read and can’t because of the paywall. So I go to the app and can’t find the story. Frustrating.
Doesn’t work half the time
Doesn’t work half the time, opens to a blank page. Better off using the website on your mobile browser.
Lacking search functionality
Looks nice, but lacks search functionality, and hyperlinks to other articles within the app point one out of the app.
Latest app update causes issues in Editions
Recent app update glitches on articles in Edition. Articles do not load when hitting the continue arrow at bottom of first paragraph. This is happening on 2 different iPhone 13 pro’s in our house. We deleted and reloaded the app, but no change. Editions is not working.
You are on Facebook
You are most often reporting news a day late. I see no reason for this since you are providing an online paper. Since you are on facebook, why not allow the community to discuss the articles that you display?
Buggy, inconsistent, and unusable
This app is inconsistent, buggy, and unusable. Many pages will not load, regardless of the online connection. Even when the day’s edition is downloaded for offline use, many pages of material will not load. Frustrating, when I have a paid subscription and the only way to access the material is to use a web browser.
Ran in background over 24 hours
Deleted this app. iOS battery settings showed it had been running in the background for over a day. I had not accessed it in a few days. Not cool.
Pages not loading
All of a sudden pages will not load on my iPad. I do not have any other problems with my iPad and now reading the newspaper is a pain and I will see the article in the contents, but I can’t access it. Sometimes when I go back, it will pop up, but other times it will not come up at all. This is only happened since the last Apple updateI think.
Needs work
This version will not stay down loaded for reading later when WiFi May not be available. Also far too many steps to download for comfortable reading on an iPad. Extremely frustrating!
Bunch a crooks
The app and webpage say that you click this link to put a hold on your subscription, but it just takes you around in circles. I did the free trial but didn’t manage ti cancel it because I kept getting distracted before I was able to figure out that I probably just needed to email “customer service.” Email sent, never subscribing to this again. Update: email sent—microsoft—paraphrased —“after multiple attempts the inbox won’t accept your message”.
No New News
Most of the articles are repeated for days and sometimes weeks. I’m looking for NEWs.
App has bugs
This used to be a good app but now every time you try to read an article it closes and goes back to the main page. Please fix this or I will probably just uninstall it.
Poor interface. Go back to the earlier version
Very difficult to navigate on my iPad. Slow to open pages and bring into focus. Difficult to navigate pages after enlarging to read. Much prefer the previous app.
