Amazing app to play content from your local network
I am using this app for a very long time. This was the only app I found which worked so nicely to play videos or music or photo slide shows from my NAS device on my local network. Their support is also great. I contacted them for some enhancement and they were quick to respond and applied the enhancement. I would highly recommend this app..
Disingenuous pricing and subscription model
I paid for a pro version a few years back but then my server went down so I stopped using it. Got a new one recently and so I download and go to restore purchases and get a message that says “Thanks for your money. But we took the product back. Now we want to charge you to use what you already paid for over and over again. It doesn’t really offer anything that other similar apps don’t that warrant anything close to that kind of pricing but we’re gonna do it anyway because we are…wait for it… GREEDY. No way! No how! Not ever again will you get another penny from me. When you move to a subscription model you grandfather your existing users in, not use the opportunity to screw all the people who supported you. Horrible predatory greedy business philosophy.
No way to cancel
If there is a way in the app to cancel the subscription during the 7-day free trial period, then I can’t find it. It should be an easy option in the settings. I guess the only way to cancel is to contest the charge with Apple and/or my credit card company.

I want to subscribe BUT
I want to subscribe, but firstly I can’t leave a review because I have not had a reply to a question I sent to support. Basically, if I buy the subscription, does it work across all my devices? Can I use it on my phone, Pad and Apple TV for the price of the subscription or is it a separate subscription for each device? One last question, will you be doing a two year three year or permanent option? Once I’ve had an answer to my questions, I will be able to review the product properly and adjust the score I have given it. Thank you.
Love the TV app, one request
Could you add the ability to specify a remote DLNA server on the TV app the same way it can be specified in Settings on the iPhone App?
VLC better in 2026, dropped paid support subscription only
I bought the pro version over a decade ago to deal with more video formats now not only is buggy but they killed letting me use it! To download video onto my iPad now I need to pay every year as well! But now VLC has more codecs, more subtitle support, and local streaming support. And Free
Confused by changes but a good app
Some others have had the same issue as I, where after reinstalling this app, it no longer grants us the grandfathered lifetime upgrade. I admit that I jumped to the conclusion that they had done what quite a lot of developers unfortunately have been doing - and getting away with - which is to change to a subscription model but not grandfather already paid customers. So if you find yourself in this situation, do not download the app here, but rather search your apps from your account icon under your apps, and you will find the version that you did pay for and it immediately restores your Pro status. It’s a little confusing that they did it this way, but I presume it’s easier than doing it straight through the same app, so maybe they just wanted the easier route. And thank you Ashley at Apple support for all your work in figuring this out for me. I tip my hat to you.
Very good app but.
This really is a great app and have used it for many years. One of the few media players that works on the Apple TV well. Sadly I can no longer use the application as the developers have moved to a subscription model. This I can understand but existing paid users have lost access. The app is mature and would have considered going to the subscription if an enhanced version were offered but will not pay again for something I already own.
Player ist gut - aber kein Airplay ?
Den Player hatte ich schonmal gekauft, und musste jetzt für das neue Abo-Modell nochmal neu bezahlen ? Neue Funktionen oder spürbare Verbesserungen habe ich leider nicht festgestellt. Soundausgabe über Airplay sucht man leider auch vergeblich. Ansonsten funktioniert der Player gut und stabil.

Bait and switch
I paid for a lifetime license. Now they want to force a subscription model in order to continue using app. Let us keep and use the old app we paid for, and create a separate subscription model for new users.
FIX THIS PLEASE
Please fix the download feature to close the file at 98 or 99 % as an option as most dlna downloads do not complete to 100% and the file is not written to my download folder. This should be a simple fix.
Disappointed
I’ve used this app for years and years, and I had paid for it. I just opened it up and I was confused as to why it was asking me to pay for a subscription. I understand the need to change business models, but they could have honoured early customers by letting them have the app and only charged new buyers with the subscription. I sadly won’t be adding another subscription to my long list of painful subs I have to endure in my life
Gute App, aber schlechtes Geschäftsgebaren.
Ich schließe mich meinen Nutzerkollegen an. Die App hat bisher gut funktioniert und konnte alles was ich brauche. Warum ich jetzt in ein Abo wechseln muss, obwohl ich eine Lifetime Lizenz hatte erschließt sich mir nicht. Von daher heute deinstalliert und auf eine gute alte Alternative umgestiegen. Sorry, aber dafür habe ich nun mal Null Verständnis. Für das Abo hätte es auch eine neue App geben können. Die, die das potentiell neue benötigen werden umsteigen, der Rest kann zumindest das bezahlte weiter nutzen.

I made a “life time” purchase of 8player Pro some years ago and used it A LOT. The app was great and did everything I wanted. Without warning they changed it to a subscription model. I WILL NOT sign up for this and will start using an alternative app.
Best DLNA music player for iPhone
Best DLNA music player for the iPhone. Only gripe: Download All does not play albums in the Music area in the right order. I have the order set to Track N, but it plays the downloaded music in alpha order. UPDATE: connecting to a Bluetooth speaker is very unstable. I use a JBL Extreme and a couple of other smaller speakers. Pausing music causes the DLNA connection to be dropped a few minutes later when continuing playing. This is with ios12 but has existed as a problem since gapless playback was introduced.
Latest update broke my system that was reliable for years
Years ago I tested dozens of DLNA players so I could access my Humax 7500T media centre. 8player was the best by far so I bought the pro version. It gradually became less and less reliable in the last 2 years. eg I lost remote access (I travelled a lot in the past and used to connect while away from home) The latest update simply broke it altogether. I can no longer even find the Humax server. I played around with some settings and got it to connect on my iPhone but not on my iPad even though they had the same settings. Even when I DO have a connection it does not play the file. Just emits an error. The idea of transitioning to a subscription model is an offence to everyone who bought it outright in the past. Fix this problem NOW (and remove the subscription model for current users) or I and many others will disappear and your reputation (and possibly your business) will be gone.

Brauche nicht viele Worte…ohne Einschränkung zu empfehlen. Hoffe das der Support noch lange bei behalten und die App im Store bleibt.Was nur Ärgert ist die Tatsache die App vor Jahren gekauft zu haben und heute muss ein Abo abgeschlossen werden.

Really happy with the app overall but given that the 8Player Pro media player and the iPad player app are to put it kindly, pretty basic an ability To select from any other third party players detected would be Greatly appreciated .
Great little player
Edit. Changing rating to 2 from 5. It’s going subscription model for some reason. Even though I’ve paid for it. I’ll be looking elsewhere or even just make my own version of this app with AI. Why can’t I just pay you a few bucks? Why does it need to be this way? Been using this for years now. Does everything you need without error. I use a windows pc with a network share. (SMB) and through this app I can just browse that share and simply play my content. No issues, no dramas and I don’t have to install any software to do it. Just works well on my iPhone, iPad and my AppleTV. Kinda perfect app. Does what it says flawlessly. Love it.

No competition.
Generally this is one of the best looking and really nice to use. On top of that it actually works well too. It is one of very few that can remotely control streaming by DLNA directly from a Mac or NAS drive rather than from the mobile device. Without doubt the best of its kind.

I use it to play just about any file format off an NAS SMB share - rarely lets me down Would love a better search that includes subfolders - and maybe some better metadata and chapter handling - but otherwise a happy camper

I didn’t ask for this
I rarely review anything Except when deception has occurred. I bought pro long ago and expected to be able to use it in perpetuity but the developer has decided otherwise and now wants more money (in yearly subscriptions) for something VLC can do for free. Very disappointed. The original stated sale is a lie now and the fact Apple allows this is also a shame.

Fix playlists
The free version was pretty good so I upgraded to Pro to get playlists, but they don’t even work, what a joke. Please fix this. An equaliser would be nice.

Excellent DLNA Streamer
Unlike many DLNA streamers I have tried, this one works "straight out of the box" without the set up hassle I have experienced with others. It also handles photos with ease which is often missing from other apps. Having struggled to get my iPad to display the contents from the Media Streamer on my Mac, 8player pro is a joy to use and I wholeheartedly recommend it to others.
Bait and switch
Garbage company! I already paid for the full version and now you turn it into a subscription app?! This should be illegal. You should have just stopped supporting the app and allowed me to continue to use the features I PAID for! Outright theft! It doesn’t feel “disappointing”, it is essentially theft of a purchased product. I paid money that has now been taken from me without any compensation. You are garbage!
Excellent App - now add exif info overlay
I’m a photographer and when I view my images from my dlna server sometimes I would like to see camera settings. It would be nice to easily activate the exif info as an overlay.

Great app for streaming you video from OneDrive etc.
I used this app for a while streaming from my own network. Then I came back to it recently and discovered that they (or Microsoft - I don’t know) had done something that made connecting to OneDrive or Google Drive super easy. I just tapped to add a server, selected OneDrive, authenticated and all my videos and music was there for streaming.
Horrible
I used this app for years. I upgraded to the pro version almost immediately to gain the full functionality. This company recently got greedy and decided to change to a subscription model. This has made my pro purchase almost non-functional. There is no way I would pay a company like this more of my money. STOP WITH THE BOT RESPONSES developer…. Same insufficient response to all your previous loyal customers.
Music from NAS
This is the only player I've found that plays Music from a NAS in the correct track order. This is a small feature that makes all the difference for me and that’s why I bought the full version. I'm not a fan of the interface thought. I would prefer a more traditional one without the big icons.
Missing feature
When I bought this app I had iPhone 6s and I was able to drag my finger on the screen to forward and rewind why am I not able to do this on my 7 plus

It's OK but with one limitation
The app is stable and loads quickly. Once you're watching a movie or TV program it is clear and the audio is good. You can jump forward or backwards it hour any buffering issues. I haven't found a format it won't play from my Seagate WiFi Plus. My only criticism is it takes a long time to make all my files available. I have about 400gb of various movies and TV shows in a few different folders. You have to keep hitting the Refresh button when you are looking for something when you launch the app. A bit annoying but it's better than the Seagate standard player app. I'm going to try Goodplayer after reading a few reviews.
Crashes regularly
Only works occasionally. Updates don't seem to help. Frustrating.
Not bad, not great
I’m using this to control a Soundaware server, so no videos are involved. The main thing I don’t like about 8player is the UI. If you quickly want to get back to the top of the navigation then go back to where you were, it takes a long time, not helped by the UI visual effects that slow it down more. This is a nuisance trying to navigate a server such as the one I’m using. A proper UI with always present main controls would be most helpful. Adding to playlists takes too many taps as well and it frequently can’t find music that has been added, despite nothing having been changed on the server at all.
