Great bird identification app
We use the app all the time to identify birds in our wooded backyard and when we are out walking. It works very well and I highly recommend it.
TERRIBLE CONTACT SUPPORT
Unwilling to help recover an account for a long time user. SHAMEFUL.
This is the best bird app!
This app is so good for learning about birds and how to bird watch, because the pictures provided for every species are so beautiful and all the information is very useful when birding. But when I try to use the filters in the bird ID section, like the color and location, it doesn’t work (or maybe I’m doing something wrong?).
Glitchy App
Let me start off by saying I love this app and normally I’d give it 5 stars. In the current version there is a glitch with the keyboard that makes the app almost impossible to use. I’ll go to type, and then suddenly the keyboard will disappear not allowing me to fully type what I wanted to type. Considering this app is a guide and you need to type things to look things up, I’m going to rate this two stars until it gets fixed.
Big gap between the Home tab and the Explore tab
The title says it all. This is clearly intentional but a very weird UX decision. It pushes the My Audubon out of the screen and looks very weird.
Great app, some hurdles to use
This is the best bird ID app available for Apple devices. So straightforward to use, and lovingly presented. NOTE: The app will ask you for account login or email address in order to access it, and this cannot be done without cell or WiFi access, and the process for downloading the app's content to your phone so that the app works without connectivity doesn't get pushed through until *after* you log in, so make sure you get everything set up at home before you take it into the field.
Off-line field guide
After updates it keeps making me redownload off-line field guide. You only notice this while off-line. Making the app useless till you get service again. It has now happened 3x to me.
Great but needs fixing
I log all my bird sightings in Audubon. However, version 8.5.2 and the version before it brought instabilities. A letter ‘r’ in Search brings an error, but letter ’h’ does not. Merlin IDs a song as Western Flycatcher but Audubon doesn’t list such a bird.
Can’t enter sightings for previous years
I’d like to add sightings for previous years but the date picker doesn’t allow the year to be selected.
More information
I would like to see more information on each type of bird. How often can females procreate… etc.
love it
great for birding
Horrible app
Keep getting a "invalid field guide endpoint response" error when I want to download offline content. Why bother having this feature if it's never going to work? Deleting this app and my account. And they want a donation??? Seriously? They can't even get their app to work properly and they want a donation. Yeah, no.
By Bird Lovers, For Bird Lovers
[Note: The developers sent me a very kind reply to my complaint assuring me that no user data is ever sold. Although I am still sore about being suddenly asked to provide an email address, I very much appreciate that they took the time to contact me, and that they were much more gracious than I was! I am changing my review of this app to reflect the experience I had while using it.] This app is chock-full of information while being accessible and engaging even for beginners. It makes learning about birds easy and enjoyable.
Update messed up the app
Lost 3 stars due to the recent update. Mostly have enjoyed the app until a couple days ago. Updated it, but then discovered the downloaded field data wasn’t compatible with the update. None of the downloaded images or maps worked. I discovered that when I was out birding and days away from internet access to redownload the field data. NOT cool Audubon. Don’t invalidate downloaded guide data with your updates.
Falta México
Es buena y práctica. Solo falta México y Latinoamérica y que pueda autolocalizar tu ubicación
Awesome app if you’re a bird lover or curious!
I downloaded this app a couple years ago and haven’t been using it that much until recently and it’s amazing at finding the birds that I’m seeing in my front yard here. It’s a really good Wildlife area. And believe it or not I live in the city. I love that there are several different pictures of both male female species as well as several different voice recordings that each bird produces. It’s a great tool and I love it. The calls are clear.
Erased years of data
I've been using this app for years with no trouble. I recently opened it and all my information was gone. Years of sightings except my locations was gone! I wrote tech support for help and got some nonsense, unhelpful answer that "yeah a glitch has been happening". DON'T TRUST THIS APP!
I take back my bad review.
Can’t listen to find birds. That would be my only complaint but sounds like that feature is coming. I had issue with search feature that no longer seems to be an issue. I reinstalled the app and an update to iOS that maybe helped. Not sure. Ether way seems like this will be helpful app for our new house in the sticks!

I love the app, but after the last update, I lost all of my saved sightings! Everything reset to zero! So bummed 😞
Literally the best birdwatching app. No kidding.
This app is the best birdwatching app. You can download offline content and it also includes maps, sounds and pictures. It has so many bird species and you can organize them alphabetically or by family. You can also sign petitions for bird conservation and log bird sightings. Also, this app is completely free and accessible. There is a bug where it keeps saying "Retry" if you try to download offline content. Other than that, wonderful app. Great for tablets and smartphones alike. Doesn't take up much storage space either. Thank you, National Audubon Society for making one of the most great apps I have downloaded.
What a joke
I see a dove I don’t know what kinda of dove it is so I try to identify it and this stupid app asks is it the size of a robin or a crow well it’s bigger the a robin but smaller then a crow
Great with some issues
I think this is a great app but it is a little buggy and it has limited birds. Bugs: the app has some texture issues and some of the icons are mashed together or they are off the screen, and it is a little Annoying to read and see what that stuff is. Some of the bird titles are too long and push the check mark off the screen, the icons at the bottom of the screen for home, explore, guid, etc. are pushed to the side and look awkward. Also I travel a lot to other countries and I saw that this app only seems to cover North American birds and I was hoping you could add more, particularly European birds but other than that the app is really good and with a few fixes could be one of the best. I do like the style and the sorrow social aspects of photo posting. Thank you for your time.
Was...One Of The Best....Naturally. Now, what's happened to it ???
Since updating my iPad to ios 9.1, I am having trouble with the photos & sound of the 821 birds. You only seem to get these when the app has access to the Internet ? It wasn't like that when I downloaded in 2014, and what use is a field guide when you need constant Internet access for it to work ? I could have sworn this app was about 800 MB when I originally downloaded it (lots and lots of gorgeous photos of birds will do this ). Now the download has shrunk to around 111 MB, could this be the reason I have no bird photos and sound on demand ??
Audubon Bird Guide
Recently downloaded to educate and learn more about birds and this app has definitely done that! This app has been fun to use as well. I recommend!
Run away!!!
Had this app for years. Never used the tracking. I used this simply for identification. At one point some years ago, it quit working. Out of the blue it started working again. Now after years of having and using this app, it wants me to log in and agree to receive communications. Frankly, I’m deleting this app! There are better apps that won’t force tracking!
Birds
I wish I could see the birds up closer without counting it as a sighting. It is laborious to stop and google it.
No bueno
Las fotos son de muy mala calidad, no se puede dar zoom, la organizacion me gusta incluye por nombre cientifico, los cantos son los mismos que la aplicacion de birds tunes. No la recomiendo (Ipod touch 3g) :s
Best Birding App
Packed with features, education, and ways to track your sightings. Hands down the best birding app available.
Sucks
Won’t let me log in
Nice app with flaw
Nice app but records incorrect sighting location.
Love it!
Enjoy being able to track sightings and see other people’s sitings. Love the information and details.enjoy exploring pictures and information with my grandsons.
LOST YRS OF DATA
I went to log into the app on my new phone. All of my other apps. Are there with all of the information collected except this one. I tried to retrieve my information with my login and it doesn’t even recognize my email address. More than 120 birds we’ve catalogued. I’m devastated. And there’s no easy way to get ahold of someone to help. :( :(
Love but add the ability to swipe to a different year
I love this app but when adding say old photos I have I have to guess how long to swipe to get to a different year!
One of the best birding apps
As a birder myself this app is pretty useful although I don’t use it that much I use Merlin Id but this app is still really good I would recommend for beginners easy to identify birds I myself have spotted 53 birds in total since I started in total on the Merlin ID app I have seen 75 new birds as of May 2026
App is buggy
Locations don’t work, not worth it
My go to bird app…
….but it would be better if I could search for species in the guide by 4-letter alpha code, a feature that Cornell Lab’s Merlin already has. Thanks!
New Iphone, everything gone, login doesn't work anymore
New Iphone, everything gone, login doesn't work anymore
Finally Dark Mode, but . . .
Pleased to finally see Dark Mode, yet half baked. Why am I being blinded by the splash screen? Settings has blinding banners. Why? Either do a complete Dark theme, or don’t. I had high hopes, but very disappointed. You almost nailed, yet dropped the ball.
Screen rotation.????
Absolutely love this app, as i am an avid bird watcher... only thing i would change is the ability to rotate phone upside down so speaker is facing out whilst using calls and still be able to use app as normal.!!!! Otherwise Love It..!!!
