If you’re a birder, you want this app
My wife and I both love the app, interface is great, resources are great. Currently using it not only to log sightings, but also to track the growth of two hawk chicks nesting at my camp. Have been taking pics regularly, and uploading each with notes, so there’s a real time record of their development. The app has all the functionality and more. No notes. I usually don’t give 5 star reviews because I once dated a lady who made a living writing paid 5 star reviews, so I don’t trust them, however, THIS is a legit 5.
Very Frustrating.
I downloaded this app and tried to use it to ID a bird, when an ad showed up that gave me no options and I had no way to close it. Now when I try to open the app all I get is the ad. Very frustrating and a waste of my time.

Not easy for beginners
There are better
First off, anything that makes folks get out there and appreciate birds more, I am all for it. However, without being able to see the photos submitted this is questionable. For example I am told there is a Mountain Chickadee spotted near me. I am 99.9% certain there was not. If there were, the pro birders would be going out of their minds as it was way out of range. This makes me question the accuracy of any ID. Merlin is the go to app for birders and is free. It does photos, sounds and keeps your lists through eBird which is also free and also contributes to the scientific data pool.
Learning about birds
I’ve always wanted to be able to identify the birds in our backyard using my iPhone. This app allows me to do just that, plus learn about the species and share my find with others. I even took the quiz and found I could identify more birds than I realized. The ads are a bit of a bother but the app is free. Thanks.

Fun new app
I’m still navigating around this one but so fun to see the pictures of birds pop up as they are identified. Once their sound is picked up, it’s a challenge to find the bird visually.
Meh
Buggy. I understand having ads to support the app but half a minute ads defeats the purpose of trying to catch a picture a bird before it flies away. You know because they are wild and can be skiddish….
Built this… but still use it every day
I originally built this app to help myself learn bird songs, but it’s honestly become something I use daily. The sound ID and mnemonics have helped me recognize birds I used to completely miss. Still improving it all the time based on feedback – lots more coming.
Maxed my data plan within 10 seconds of use.
I misclicked the app on my Home Screen, only was on it for 10 seconds and racked up a ton of data usage. My data period just started so this is unacceptable. For reference, this was on the intro screen — I have not interacted with anything within the app yet (closed it after getting my data overage notifications).

I have found this app to be very useful. I mainly use it to identify birds from photos I take. Basednonthe identification of birds I already know it is very accurate. It is also very easy to use.

On peut voir les oiseaux à proximité et même faire un quiz ! Un passe-temps fascinant pour les débutants et plus expérimentés. Je ne peux plus me passer de cette application !!

Fun and easy to use. It’s especially helpful when travelling for identifying unfamiliar birds. I had an issue with the app crashing and so contacted the developer and he replied immediately - happy to say that I’m up and running again! Highly recommended!

From the fact that you can use pictures AND sound to identify birds is amazing! And if the AI isn’t good enough, you can press the “Help” icon and send a picture and a paragraph about the un-identified bird to REAL professional birders to identify it instead!(At least for the picture option)

As a newer bird enthusiast this app has helped me with identifying birds that I have seen and/or fed along with recognizing calls I’ve heard. It also helps with knowing which ones to look out for in the area. A fun and interactive support to my bird watching hobby!
Love it
A wonderful companion app for bird lovers. I have this installed both on iPhone 13 and iPad Pro 2021. The one issue is that it will never update when one is available. On both platforms all other apps download updates seamlessly and any attempt to update the app in que or alone, will simply spin and go back to state “update” I went to devs site to trouble shoot and nothing pops out on my end that does not allow an update. In short. I have to delete app and reinstall.
Great app, but major quiz bug
I love the quizzes, however sometimes it’ll carry over my progress from the last quiz attempt so I get 76 out of 50. This messes up quiz results as it says I got 100% when I didn’t. Please fix this, otherwise thank you for the great app!

Just started using smart bird ID and it’s awesome! I love that you can scan the bird from either inside the app or simply upload a photo, and my favourite function is that you can see birds spotted around you - kind of like playing Pokémon go but real life! It’s perfect :)
