What people like
- Great for finding complex chords.
- Flexible enough to make custom patterns.
- Very inspiring for songwriting ideas.
- Works well with AUM host.
What they complain about
- Hard to add your own chords.
- Crashes on startup or in DAWs.
- Screen layout doesn't fit all iPads.
- Interface feels confusing and unintuitive.
Not working in ios18 - edit - now sorted
Crashes as soon as it launches as an audio unit. Tried on multiple iPads and iPhones. There appears to be no way to contact the developer. I hope this is sorted as the app was very good on ios17 Edit: all sorted - many thanks!
Unusable
App goes blank on screen every time I press one of the chord pads. Then reappears a few seconds later. Totally unusable. Can someone please help.
love it
Hi, i love the app. Gives me many inspirations or allows me to generate fast and easy a playback for practicing guitar. Only one thing. On my MacBook Pro M2 macOS 13 it crashes direct while opening. The App window shoes up for a little moment and than it close directly.
Great idea and workflow but..
Doesn’t natively size to my iPad Gen 6 screen causing me to have to scroll to view the pads versus the mixer even though there is plenty of white space left on the screen for them both. It is unfortunate.
best auv3 no competition
easily the thing i use the most in my workflow, to identify, refine and create complex chords and melodies. you really don’t need any other midi apps if you have this. 100% worth every penny
Nutzlos
Comprehensive app but can be unnecessarily complicated at times
Although the app seems to follow certain music theory conventions, I find it too restrictive when I want to mix my own chords with the generated suggestions. Why should I be forced to use only the “next” chords suggested by the app, instead of also having the option to simply tap a pad and enter my own chords, like in ChordPolyPad, without awkward workarounds? Right now, I have to generate suggested chords first, delete their notes, and then manually enter my own, which feels unnecessarily cumbersome. It also does not make sense that the first pad is forced to be the key chord and that I cannot change its octave. I feel the piano roll scrolling needs improvement as well, because I often end up entering random notes while just trying to scroll across octaves. On top of that, the default sound patch is extremely loud and could really use a more reasonable level.
Suggestion
Can you please make a independent +- transpose function for the arpeggiator and strummer. The best midi app on the market!!!
Doesn’t work
Unfortunately doesn’t work on IOS 18 so can’t give more stars, shame as it looks awesome and exactly what I was looking for. Will update review if it gets fixed.
Perfect automatic note player…
… for sticking in AUM and letting her rip while tweaking plugins for hours. Easy to explore this app to alter the output melodically every time.
Won’t work in logic
The app won’t work in logic, which is the whole point of why I got it in the first place. How do I go about getting a refund?
A useful tool
I initially wrote a negative comment about this tool. The issue had to do with measures and divisions. As it turns out the issue was related to my lack of understanding of how this software works. So I am now changing my rating.
Very poor user experience
Requires lots of long taps some of which do not even function as the manual says they should. Nearly impossible to add non-recommended chords. Would not use if it was free.
Wahnsinnig gut!
No manual?
Unintuitive interface with nothing to guide you in how to use this app. Whatever this app is capable of is completely moot if it is going to be this unhelpful in my effort to figure out how to use it. I can’t see how to do squat with this app.
AUM display problem
Using iOS 15.5 on 8th gen iPad….Updated AUM…. Opening single instance in MIDI or audio channel , Progressions will not display properly not allowing resizing to full screen. Opening Progressions out of AUM shows full screen. Updated this as Paul pointed out double clicking title in AUM open app to full screen….
Best so far
I’ve found it more intuitive than some of Paul’s apps. It bears similarities to Scaler but is more more flexible. For instance, instead of a ton of preset patterns, you largely make your own. Pity I can’t give it six stars. Good to see Paul back at the coal face, stay well, ios needs you.
Still won’t work in Cubasis
The app won’t work in Cubasis. Midi strummer works fine. Works fine in Aum, but I had hopes to use it in my normal workflow. Aspirationally i’m still giving it five stars because I know it’s due to some issue with C3…
Brilliant Paul
Another brilliant app from Paul. As a fellow Yorkshireman I’ve followed Paul’s progress over the years and his apps just get better. This one has similarities with Scaler 2 (which I love as well) but it is sufficiently dissimilar to warrant buying it. I can get lost in an app like this for hours. To the point where I can run out of battery without realising. I’ve already composed some songs with it using AUM. I can’t wait to see what Doug Wood, Leo, Gav and Vortex make of this. Thanks again Paul and I’m glad your feeling better.
