App could be a bit more clearer to be honest
February half term
Took our grandson who is 2. We are also member- every time we go we seem to find somewhere different that we haven’t been before and we are in our second year of membership. Went at half term, but usually go when kids are at school - it was busy but we didn’t follow the crowds and had a great time because the tree top adventure was open and our grandson had the best time on there ! Apparently it isn’t open out of school holidays or midweek but really wishing it was !!
Ok, but could be better
It’s a good app for telling you where things are but there are a couple of things that were really annoying. It would be great if it could tell you where you were on the map and also could filter for multiple things I.e wildlife + activities
Maps good…could be better
Map could do with having the feature to be able to tick animals off as others have said. Did feel at times I was walking around in circles using the navigation feature

It’s always good to visit the zoo. There’s always something for everyone there.
Doesn’t allow navigation
I have been using this app for over a year now and can confidently say that it’s the most useless mobile app.
Good app
Overall, the app is very good. However, it looks really out of place on my Lock Screen because it doesn’t have a dark mode variation for the app icon. Could there be a dark mode app icon in a future update perhaps?
Terrible
Whoever wrote the 5 star review clearly had a different app to me. The map had no animals marked the times were wrong and as for navigation round the park nope! Buy a map is my advice.

Zoo and outpost
Straws were not big enough for the bubbles, One of our drinks did not have bubbles which was disappointing. Staff on the food halls were quite rude but the zoo itself was lovely.
Good idea but
Signal was bad at the park and I couldn’t really make out the map, it’s a bit basic and wouldn’t always update to my location

Difficult to navigate down to the animal attractions being unclear & directions unavailable. Needs some serious development to replace physical maps
Great guide
The app was so helpful and the almost perfect companion for getting around the zoo. It would be great if you could set up a “sat nav” style pathway, for instance if I’m at the main entrance and want to see the lions I could just click the lions and the route appears.
Agree with others
I agree mostly with what others have said about the map. Not very useful, nor easy to use. I too resorted to using the static maps on site. The map also stayed in one position rather than navigating in the direction I wanted to travel to follow a route. Became too confusing and totally abandoned the app.
Fantastic conservation zoo
What an amazing zoo this is - every single enclosure is well planned out giving space and diversity to the animals / reptiles within . I couldn’t be happier to see lions back at Chester zoo as we missed them so much on our visits . Fab Easter egg trail aswell .
Poor
This is not an improvement! The previous map had all the animals in picture form which made navigation and planning really easy. I’m sorry but this is a disaster. I’ve deleted it as it’s of no use.

So my phone downloaded an old version of this app which didn’t work- after re-downloading it works great

The Zoo is fantastic - the app not so! Kept telling me that I wasn’t at Chester Zoo, so functions like directions to certain animals was not available the majority of the time. When I whinged out loud, two people passing said: ‘Oh you must be trying to use the app!’ Doesn’t look like I was alone!!!
The secret life of the zoo
The staff were excellent - so pleasant and informative. Myself and two grandsons really enjoyed every moment of our zoo experience. Love Chester Zoo wish it wasn’t so big! - we think we saw everything but the snow leopards. Look forward to our next trip
Don’t waste your money.
Visited today and none of the animals were out. The app is inaccurate and took us in circles until we actually found an exit, extremely crowded and massively long lines on every food place. Most of the food is icecream anyway. £70 to get in and there is nothing to see. Some staff were rude and just walked away when asked a question. Don’t waste your money or time on Chester Zoo.

Zoo trip
Map on the app didn’t have any points of interest on. When we put into the map we wanted to see specific animals it showed us the route but didn’t have any of the areas pictured so we didn’t know which direction we were meant to be travelling across the park. We found it easier to use the large maps around the zoo as we were able to see which areas we needed to pass to find specific animals.

Amazing and the hornbill was the most amazing animal for me.The noises it made were quite magical but my sisters was the spider monkey😁
Map App doesn’t work
The map on the app doesn’t correspond with the maps on site. There are regular letter markers on site but these don’t exist in the app. When you try to follow the map app, the direction of travel isn’t picked up so it can be very difficult to work out which turn to take.
Chester zoo is the best!
Always a great day out! Lovely and clean and the half term poo at the zoo museum and activities went down well with the kids! Lots of fun and interesting at the same time. We are members and we love Chester zoo always something new to see or do each time we come. Can’t wait to visit the new Heart of Africa area once it’s open at Easter!
Food & water
Zoo is great & wonderful how much is being done for conservation. Indonesian food was disappointing. Took ages to arrive. Not very authentic & expensive for what one got. Most disappointing feature of Zoo’s refreshments is lack of promotion to drink tap water rather than un-eco friendly bottled water. Although tap water was available, had to specifically ask for it. What about water fountains? Places to fill up own water bottles.
App good but search poor
The app itself is excellent especially the interactive map and directions. The only failing is the search facility. This seems to be a direct string search and is not flexible to accepts reference words. Eg you need to use correct name to find the reptile house rather than just use a keyword like “reptile “. Needs to employ a more flexible search engine. Other than that, brilliant

Really good app, the only extra thing that would of helped with it would be to be able to tick off animals you’ve seen so you don’t end up missing some or going back to the same ones as the park is so big and can get a little confusing

Helped us find our way around the park easily! And you can see certain places e.g. restaurants, outdoor animals and indoor animals!
My review
I’ve been to Chester Zoo the last 2 weeks first week I paid £29.08 and there was NO pensioners fee and to find out they’ve stopped giving out maps so anyone that doesn’t have a phone or more to the point have a phone but don’t know how to down load a App they after to head off to find a map, ( they are dotted about around the Zoo) plus there was none of the kiosk’s open to get drinks / ice cream’s on the way round. They do have three really good food emporium’s but if you wanted to just stop for a rest and a drink/ ice cream it wasn’t good! The second week I went the fee had gone up to £32 something. The reason definitely wasn’t to pay the wages of the staff in the Kiosk’s🙈 we found one open and that wasn’t far from the exit so you could use that going in or coming out maybe. The second week I went was because we only managed to get halfway round. I am disabled but determined to walk with a lot of stops, although you can hire the mobility-scooter’s it was my choice to walk so We went around the island this week, it was very nice and I was able to go on a boat trip because they have odd boats that have wheelchair access, that was really enjoyable and so peaceful the sound of the water. I love to sit and watch what’s going on around me. My favourite animals are the Elephants, Monkeys and Otters 🦦 Although I had two really enjoyable days I do think the price for pensioners or anybody with a family is horrendous! I also know the animals after be fed and all the up keep of the zoo but the amount of people that go through them gates am sure they could do something to help people because if they were to lower instead of increasing all the time it would encourage a lot more people to go along and that would even it out. I know lots of people that would go if they could afford those ridiculous prices they would see a lot more in the winter too it such a shame that the Zoo is so greedy🤦♀️😢
