automatically pulls all photos from library when you give access at initial set up. doesnt ask or confirm if thats what you want. Terrible design.
Great app, missing face tags
I love this app, but so wish that it had better facial recognition features. At minimum, I would love a way to manually be able to tag my dog in a picture. The only word around is moving pictures to an album.
Not ready
It’s a promising start but this app/service is still light years from being ready for large libraries imported eg from Google Photos or Apple Photos. Eg after selecting some 200 pictures to add to a shared album the recently created album doesn’t show up in the destination list or the addition fails repeatedly with “something went wrong”. Onboarding for a family member also suffered from sync issues — after sharing an album and seeing pictures it still took minutes before anything showed up in the “feed”. And for people coming from Google the date handling of pictures where the importer can’t match the json sidecar is really unfortunate; expect about 1% of your pictures to end up with a wrong date (the date of the takeout request) and no other metadata.
Trustworthy app, but HEATS UP A LOT!!!!!
Been using this app for over a year now with my partner and it’s the only one we trust with our photos. Works great on his Android, but it gets really hot on my iPhone 17 idk why
Best Encrypted Photo Backup Service
I’ve been trying to get away from Google Photos and OneDrive and attempted Proton Drive. I found the user interface unintuitive and extremely difficult to use. Ente has the same end-to-end encryption and quality of life features like being able to just use it like a photo app. It backs up when the phone is locked and the ability to search can’t be overstated. Being able to share photos with friends and family is an amazing feature that I thought wouldn’t be possible with encryption. I will be recommending this service to anyone.

Wäre eine gute Alternative
Ich war endlich froh eine datenschutzfreundliche Alternative zum großen G oder A zu haben. Ich habe mich aber getäuscht. Mein hauptgrund für ente war, dass es eine Gesichtserkennung gibt. Die gibt es auch. Ich muss aber nahezu jedes einzelne Foto bestätigen, ob das auch wirklich Person xy ist. Dann kann man es auch gleich sein lassen. Schade..
Needs some improvements
The app isn’t very intuitive to use. I wish there was parity on all features between web and mobile. I don’t find it easy to navigate my albums on mobile at all.
The best cloud photo storage
I've been using this app for years on my phone and PC to back up my photos. It's reliable, fast, and easy to use. It's the quickest way I've found to transfer photos between my devices. Couldn't recommend enough!
Blatant UI regression
I don’t think I have ever seen an app get so blatantly worse in one version. Did some publish a previous version of the app? Is this a joke? Literally every object and icon has taken a full explicit step backwards in clarity and usability.
Great!!! But not privacy focussed…
Great app and they’ve nearly thought of everything! Some of the features are hidden by click-click-click into different areas of the app, but on the whole really good and privacy focussed which is a bonus. There needs to be some further development, such as changing the location of the photographs or EXIF data. If I wanted to erase this completely it should be an option. There are some photos I’d like to remove this from to avoid sharing too much and doxxing but it seems you can’t. For family stuff and albums I don’t mind but for a privacy focussed app there should be a ‘Zap metadata’ option for certain photos or albums as a whole. Great start and now a subscriber (and recommended some people so I get extra storage!) but I’d like to see more privacy focussed features. I’m also a little dubious after clearing the cache and going into airplane mode that I’m able to see images…. How is this so…. I’m not sure Ente has completely ‘Entayed’ the privacy market whilst lacking these features and, apparently, storing images locally that cannot be cleared by the cache… Photo editing isn’t great, either. I know there are other apps for this but this is literally a photo app. When editing there’s no quick way of seeing the before and after (or before and current edit) that most editing apps have. Also, really annoying, when you do make edits, it vibrates - and NOT haptic feedback as you’d expect! When I was editing, it thought the White House was trying to get through! It buzzed so much I thought there was a national emergency - to the point I checked all my messaging apps and the phone app to see if I had missed something urgent! Not great. Ente need to address some of the above and I’d like to see an option to disabling caching of images! I think there might be a workaround by adding to a Hidden folder and then deleting the cache after, but I cannot be certain.
Viele Fehler wenig Funktionen
Für mich ist der Dienst sein Geld nicht Wert. Ständig gibt es Fehler beim Speichern von Änderungen. Die Synchronisation dauert manchmal ewig. Die Bearbeitungsfunktionen für Fotos sind rudimentär. Drag and Drop aus der Anwendung in andere Apps geht nicht.
Video preview UX not good
Great app but Would love to have pinch to zoom in/ out feature when playing videos. Currently it closes when you try to pinch to zoom to see details in a video. Very counter intuitive compared to existing ios experience
Best for free e2ee
Definitely worth the download because no other app gives a free 10 gb of e2ee storage. However, on my arm pc I def need a way to download the app, I remember seeing one on GitHub but I’m not fully sure.
Very bad app
The UI is poor, and the experience is terrible in terms of intuitiveness. The file management is bad, and there are no proper tutorials for uploading or using other features. My biggest issue is deleting albums. When I try to delete an album, I don’t get the option to remove it only from the cloud; it forces me to delete it from my device as well. Furthermore, it says it will delete those photos and videos from all other folders they are uploaded to. I just want to delete that one specific folder. It should be simple, but it isn’t. I am forced to delete files from locations I don’t want to touch, including my local device storage. The UI is not helpful at all in distinguishing these actions. If something is labeled “On Ente,” deleting it should remove it from the cloud, not the device. If I wanted to delete it from my device, I would choose “On Device.” I genuinely can’t delete any folders without literally losing my media just because I don’t want that particular folder anymore. What is wrong with this design? Who hurt the developer? Who came up with this? You should just follow a simple folder structure like Google Drive: if I edit a folder on the cloud, it shouldn’t affect my device.

Just switched over from Amazon Photos this week, paid up for a year. The subreddit is helpful for figuring out more of how it works.
Annoyed within minutes
This app craves everything you have and annoys you into submitting to full photo access and machine learning. Let me pick what I want to share, when I want, and stop forcing users to grant permissions through progressive screens you can’t get past without submitting.
No Response From Support Team
The app has a bug that prevents people from sharing the album. This existed two weeks ago when I first downloaded it and still does to this day with no response from their support team. Would probably be a great app if you could share it with people.

Great private photo backup, almost perfect
one of the best photo backup apps if you care about privacy. I like that photos are end-to-end encrypted, the app works across devices, and it feels much more trustworthy than ad-based cloud services. The design is clean, backup works well, and sharing albums is useful. It may not feel as deeply integrated into iOS as iCloud Photos, but for private photo storage, it is a very strong option. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a serious alternative to Google Photos or iCloud

Best Privacy-Respecting Photo Backup App
If you are looking for an application help back up your precious memories that feels like Google photos but respects your data and privacy, look no further! Even though it can be slightly more expensive than mainstream photo storage services, it is well worth it to know that the photos of my loved ones are protected with the encryption and respect they deserve. I could not be happier with this service! You do not sacrifice anything that you would normally have with larger photo storage platforms. They are also adding features all the time. I love the widgets I put on my iPhone that allow me to see memories of photos taken in the past, and the map and face recognition feature allow me to reminisce about specific people and places whenever I like. Additionally, customer service is excellent! I had one technical issue come up, and they got back to me immediately and fixed my problem very promptly. Please do yourself a favor and try Ente!
Struggles to Backup
It really struggles to do a simple backup of a few sub 1 minute videos. The UI is lovely but I don’t think I can rely on it because of its poor performance

Love the app and all it‘s features. I‘m missing a 500gb option so badly. Same problem as the iCloud prices :(
Seems nice but disappointed
It prompts for you to buy more storage even though the storage isn’t full. It gives you 10GB free which is okay. It filled up to 10.03GB pretty quickly so you make space I deleted over an hours worth of videos from the ente folder (not the “on device folder)” and it still says it’s at 10.03GB even though it hasn’t backed up anything else. Yes, I went to the trash folder to make sure to permanently delete. Same result. I already have an external hard drive so I’m not overly pressed about buying more storage. The $2.99 seems reasonable enough, I just don’t like feeling like I’m being played or lied to over it. There’s no way the forage hasn’t budged after that delete. It’s that reason why I’m going to opt out of buying a larger plan. I’ll use this for quick photos that I don’t want to take up space but I still want on my phone (if it lets me), but if I want more space I’ll just use my external hard drive or buy another one.
Request: Add Zoom Levels!
Overall this app works pretty good, and I like the security and privacy features built in for those extra privacy-focused. I have not gotten a chance to test out the de-duplicate options yet but one thing I frequently do is visually skim through my library when the image thumbnails are smaller. When you do your initial sync (I have about 40,000 items, and about 1,000 are videos, and the iPad Pro app freezes and crashes frequently when getting about 3/4 through the initial sync. The green spinning circle goes SO SLOW for about 1-2 minutes before the app crashes, and only 4-8 videos got uploaded. I had to do that a LOT and hope it ran overnight when it was time to go to bed. FEATURE REQUEST -it would be REALLY nice if I can zoom out at several levels like Apple Photos does, and like how you can change thumbnail sizes for files in file pickers. Why can I not pinch to zoom on any grid of images??? Let us zoom out real far like Apple to see a large number of files. [EDIT:bI’d like to have more than 6 options in a single row.] Sometimes it’s useful to be able to glance at big groups of images quickly as you scroll by such as a vacation or convention to look for something specific that is not a face, but at least on iPad Pro, I can’t seem to find an option to zoom out. Even Apple Photos lets you zoom out a few different levels. I’m sure it’s easy to implement. Please take my consideration into this for a higher rating. Thanks!
Epic Photo Storage
I started out with Google Photos and then moved to iCloud Photos. I still use iCloud but wanted a backup option. I started using Immich, but it has so many quirks I struggle with. Now that I’ve found Ente, I’m really excited about moving my backup over. This app is clean and fast and I look forward to how it evolves.
Unreliable and corrupt
The last update DELETED EVERYTHING from my Ente account supposedly and is now uploading everything from my phone again! This is ridiculous given my phone no longer has everything — I deleted all my larger videos in the confidence that they were available on Ente Despairing doesn’t begin to describe how I’m feeling about the possibility of having lost so many memories. Save your money, time and sanity. If you’re looking for cloud photo storage, look elsewhere

Ente überzeugt voll und ganz beim wichtigsten Punkt: Verschlüsselung und Datenschutz. Die App fühlt sich sicher an und ist eine tolle Alternative zu großen Cloud-Anbietern. Doch leider macht der frustrierend limitierte Foto-Editor die Nutzung im Alltag unnötig umständlich. Was fehlt? - Standard-Filter – Keine einfachen Presets wie "Vivid", "Warm" oder "Dramatic", die man von anderen Apps kennt. - Text & Objekte – Keine Möglichkeit, Pfeile, Sticker oder selbst einfachen Text hinzuzufügen (selbst die iOS-Fotos-App kann das!). - Intelligente Zuschnitte – Fehlende vorgegebene Seitenverhältnisse (1:1, 16:9 etc.) für Social Media oder Druck. - KI-Features – Nichts wie automatische Verbesserungen, Helligkeitsanpassungen oder Retuschen, wie man sie von Google Fotos oder sogar der iOS-Fotos-App gewohnt ist. Noch schlimmer: Selbst grundlegende Korrekturen (Helligkeit, Kontrast, Sättigung) fühlen sich umständlich und unpräzise an. Für jede vernünftige Bearbeitung muss ich die Fotos erst in andere Apps exportieren – das zerstört den Workflow komplett. Fazit: Für rein sichere Backups ist Ente super, aber als tatsächliche Alternative zu Google Fotos oder iOS fehlt einfach zu viel. Schade, denn das Potenzial wäre da! Ich würde die App sofort regelmäßig nutzen, wenn der Editor endlich praktische, alltagstaugliche Funktionen bekäme – bis dahin bleibt sie leider nur eine Nischenlösung für Sicherheits-Fans.
Guest view
I assumed guest view would lock the phone so you can’t leave the app, or look at other photos besides the ones you selected for guest view. Guess not. Can you add that feature?

Constant crashing won’t stay open longer than a minute
Good luck uploading photos when you have to baby this app to keep it open long enough to upload more than 10 at a time. I thought it would only be this unstable while uploading but even after finishing the app still won’t stay open longer than a minute. It’s a shame because this is the best alternative to G Photos but because of this crashing issue it’s totally unusable.
Very Good Private Project (in Development)
Great private alternative to any cloud photo manager. Finally someone did the feature allowing us to hide multiple albums or archiving photos so that garbage photos can be put away. However the service feels a little unpolished. I notice lack of HDR support for photos (which is a dealbreaker for me and many of my friends to fully switch) and other unfinished little things. Hope the team will fix some of them soon
Buggy
I love that this app is a good alternative to google or amazon photos. It has end to end encryption. Though this app is very buggy, frequently randomly closing or marking my daily spotlights as invited after they were reviewed.
Fantastic Replacement to Apple Photos
I’ve been using several of Ente’s apps, including photos, for well over a year now. It is 100% worth the subscription price. The privacy and peace of mind that it provides, paired with the feature-set that is constantly being updated makes it a no-brainer for anyone looking for a little extra privacy in their digital life. Can’t recommend it enough!
Super Slow
I find this super slow with only less than 300 photos/vids to transfer from album, so far it’s taken nearly 8 hours and still waiting for it to finish.

Phone heats very quickly with significant battery use while using the app. Albums were also created for imported photos but the photos were not added to these albums, which I then had to manually delete as the delete empty folders option resulted in their reappearance.

I'm not a young guy, and I use exclusively high-end professional services. To have one of them change their icon from something that looked extremely professional to something that reminds me of a high school dating app is quite frustrating. They have allowed users to modify that icon on the mobile app, but the desktop app remains the same new cheesy dating interface.
