Great app
This app is great because: 1. The stories build up with grammar and vocabulary very gently. I never had the feeling of being overwhelmed. 2. The audio is slow enough for a beginner to understand. 3. The range of knowledge in the stories is pretty large so you don’t outgrow it. 4. It’s created for Russian in particular, not a version of a general app. 5. Other apps are focused on getting you “useful” vocab/phrases fast. This app helps you understand the structure of the language, how to build sentences.
Not a free app
If you are looking for a free or partially free app this is not for you. This app wants you to pay for any story. There isn’t even a free sample story. Not friendly for people who want to learn for free.
Please add at least one free story!!🙏
I would love to try this app out, but I don’t want to commit to buying it before I can try it out for myself and see if I like it. It’s a great idea for an app, and I’ve been looking for something this for a while now. Thank you!
Payment
The stories look interesting, but not interesting enough to pay 49 DKK a month ( About 7 euros) to listen to their stories. Not a single story is free. To be honest I think on YouTube you could find better stories. At least there’s a 7 day free trail but still…
Fantastic idea. Subscription model unreasonable.
I’m an advanced learner and I used the app with the 7 day trial. I have read all the (very) short stories for advanced learners in a couple of days, such that the app does not have anything to offer me anymore. A subscription model would only make sense if there was a whole library with dozens or hundreds of stories and even novels (like Audible, for example). I remark, nonetheless, that it is a great way to learn, I liked the double translation (literal and idiomatic) and that it can be switched off. Hopefully the project grows and develops further, but Im afraid that with such a subscription model it wont have a future. Maybe a single low price for each story or book (in case you in the future include whole novels)? :) The trial could be one free story chosen by the user. I wish you success with the project and thank you for the content!
Amazing app!
I really enjoy this app as someone who grew up speaking Russian and wants to learn more. Being able to hear someone read the words out loud is so helpful for mastering pronunciation. My only gripe is that I wish there was a dark mode feature. I often find myself reading at night before bed and this would make things so much easier.
A pagamento
L’app è scaricabile gratuitamente ma poi non c’è neanche una storia che è possibile leggere senza dover pagare 70 euro di abbonamento
Pleasantly surprised
I gave it a shot and im glad i did. Great for beginners and intermediate learners.
subsciption
I was hoping to find something where I could try 1 or 2 stories for free then the rest being paid but nah it’s all for money so I don’t get to read 3 pages of a book without pulling out my credit card I get that you guys need to make money but just let me read 5 pages of a book then let me pay.
Excellent concept, flawed execution.
The concept is vastly superior to the likes of Babbel. However, it is hampered by the lack of a pause function and the paucity of advanced material. No Gospels (a must when learning languages as simple and universally known), only one Sherlock Holmes or Peter Rabbit story, etc. It would need vastly more material to justify the subscription.
Amazing
I’ve been learning Russian on and off for 3 years. This last year I really went all in on my learning. I didn’t use the app at first cause I didn’t want to pay but I saw there was a free trial and thought, “why not?” The best decision I have ever made. This app has made me so confident in my Russian reading abilities
False advertisement
Need a subscription to read anything
It’d be 5 if we had the stressed letters
It’s truly a wonderful app and has immensely helped me improved my reading. I just feel it could be so much easier and more useful if there was stressed letters for beginners. Other than that it’s a 5star app and is very useful.
Almost every book cost money
I wanted to have this app so I can read Russian books (children/toddler books) so I can learn Russian a bit better and to make it more fun for me but there’s only like 3 books that doesn’t cost the subscription and I don’t like it.
Seems like a great app but don’t have money
I’d love to use the app, especially since it seems really nice. But I don’t have the money to pay for the stories sadly
Dark Mode
Love the app, it’s amazing and extremely helpful. I would love it even more if there was a dark mode that would be amazing!! Maybe sometime in the future? Thanks guys, please keep doing what you’re doing.
Paid Subscription/Gekauftes Abonnement
Not a single story is free or available. To read one you have to start a subscription, which costs 80€ every year, a totally unreasonable price. Keine einzige Geschichte ist gratis oder frei zugänglich. Um eine zu lesen, muss man ein Abonnement starten, welches um die 80€ im Jahr kostet, ein total übertriebener Preis.
Perfect
Perfect App to learn Russian by reading. Beginner books start with a small vocabulary and simple sentences, slowly expanding both book by book. Inline translations can be toggled for authentic reading experience and quick context sensitive lookups. Professional readers provide clear pronunciation and additional entertainment. Inbook lessons provide precise explanations on given sentences. In short: All you need to advance your Russian comprehension capabilities!
Much improved
I asked them to include a “repeat button” so that the lessons would autoplay over and over. They didn’t do that but they created an option to listen to the audio of large swaths of lessons while you drive, work, sleep, etc…. Very helpful and cool! Very responsive support team and great lessons! The grammar guides are awesome!
not one book free to read
every book is locked. not even a free trial book.
Terrific
Love this app. I’m using it on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. It’s really helping me to learn Russian. I just wish the app was available for my Mac Studio desktop as the iPhone is a bit small to fully benefit from this terrific app. Please developers, make it available for desktop 🙏🏻
Отлично!
Really enjoying this app. A lot of different stories for different levels that are entertaining. I come back to the app every now and again to read a simple story a few times to try and increase my vocabulary and work on grammar. Excellent supplement to other learning material you’re using.
MONEY HUNGRY!!!
Wouldn’t recommend. This app only wants your money, and doesn’t include any free books. Parents, I’d suggest finding better ways for your child to read & write in Russian. This app obviously has no shame in hiring fake comments to promote its run down app. -Side note, kids are crying. Cheers. А нам всё равно а нам все равно не боимся мы волка и сову😡
nice
I personally don’t like the idea of subscriptions 😔but that free trial was worth it! 🤩 Will consider buying one in the future! Sometimes I try only listening to the audio and I realise I have more Russian comprehension than I think! 🤯
Great
Amazing app and very intuitive. Nicely done!

Gets 5 stars from me.
This app is very helpful for learning Russian through comprehensible input. There is great ever growing content from a beginner to advanced level. The Narrating is too notch. The narration is followed along by highlight and every russian word is translated above into English. If u can support them as they grow that would mean even more content for us all those who use it and enjoy it. Thank you to everyone who is involved with Russian Readers. Great Job!!! I cant wait to see how you improve this app in the coming years.
The best resource so far for learning Russian
I've been trying to learn Russian for the past five years. Duolingo and Rosetta Stone's formats didn't really work to well for me. Babbel was great compared to those two, but only got me so far. The grammar guides in Russian Readers particularly have improved my understanding much more and much faster than any of the resources I've tried so far. I was about to call it quits before coming across Russian Readers and am extremely happy I gave it a shot. It's worth every penny.
Not free as advertised
I have never written a review before but after following a Russian channel on YouTube I came across an ad that indicated a free app to read books with translations (this app). However, this app is completely subscription based, not even some free stories to try. That was highly misleading. Either amend the ad or offer some free stories.
So good!
I tried out the app for the first time and absolutely loved it! I’m in love with Russian readers and it was definitely worth downloading :D ❤️❤️
Well done, fun, engaging, contributes to acquisition
As a language learner, I found the approach to be very helpful in just the right way to gaining confidence in learning Russian. The focus area content is very good with lots of example sentences read slowly and clearly. I use this along with other resources.
Fantastic app for Russian learners
I’ve been using this app for a year now to practice Russian and I couldn’t be more pleased. It’s incredibly intuitive, straightforward, and easy to navigate. The app allows me to practice reading, comprehension, and grammar all in one place. I especially love the word-by-word translation above the text; it makes it so much easier to follow along and learn new vocabulary naturally. The accompanying audio is excellent for practicing both listening comprehension and pronunciation. The illustrations are cute and the stories engaging. The grammar guide videos with Пётр are incredibly informative, almost like having a private class, and Luke’s quick customer service and help has made my experience even better; I’m very thankful. Большое спасибо for creating such a fantastic app!
