Making a Difference!
I’ve been using this app for 90 days and it’s made a difference in my husband’s numbers! He has Stage 2 CKD. The selection of recipes, the ability to import recipes from other sites (such as DaVita) and to create my own recipes is great. The app is easy and straightforward. I’m so grateful to the developers for creating this tool.
Not liking this
Manually enter food. No numbers for sodium etc filling in and tracking.
Make serving sizes adjustable on recipes?
Computers and apps can do anything they are programmed to do. Why haven’t you programmed your app to allow users to select number of servings on your recipes so that the app will automatically adjust amounts for each ingredient? Many recipe apps provide this. I am only one person. Right now I have to get out my calculator and split ingredients to make one serving. Or figure out what to do with a second (or third and fourth) serving of the recipe, some of which don’t reheat well. I really don’t want to eat 4 servings of something.
Doesn’t Add Up !!!
This app must be consistent and 90% correct but afraid to rely on it comparing foods with Yuka there are major screw ups. Scanner sucks!! Doesn’t list hidden ingredients, often contradictory! And mostly, can’t rely on this with CKD3B. I already paid but will dispute. That’s why there is no free trial. Research this app and those of you please use caution on replying on it . Use Yuka for free the scanner works on all bar codes unlike Kidney pal. I’m getting kidney Safe when it isn’t according to Yuka scanner. Just some thoughts, if kidney function gets worse from using this App they better lawyer up !
Amazing
This is an amazing app! It made my life so much easier. I highly recommend it.
Absolutely indispensable
This is my third time reviewing, so I feel like a lunatic, but if I had waited a week or so, instead of nit-picking about trivial things, this is the review I would give: this app has become an indispensable tool to stay 3A for as long as possible. I tried reading books that used complicated calculations for everything you eat, and they all disagree on what you can and can't eat--which would basically be water and twigs, according to some of these authors--but this app does all the calculations for me, and I'm learning quickly that I can eat most foods (albeit, very little animal protein), depending on what else I have eaten that day. Almost as importantly, I'm discovering what limits I have--4 oz of chicken put me over my protein allowance, so apparently, I've been eating way too much protein. I've also been drinking *too much* water, which surprised me. I'm donating the books I bought to a clinic because not only were the calculations insanely complicated--and I'm a math-phobe--the recipes are depressingly bad, as well as their lengthy list of "verboten" foods, when in fact, they aren't verboten, it's just all a matter of perhaps eating smaller amounts and balancing that with whatever else you eat on that day, which this app makes super easy to figure out. I only wish my nephrologist had been as helpful as this app. As far as negatives? I still wish they used calories instead of kilojoules, but I've bookmarked a converter online, so it's a very small inconvenience. Yes, compared to some apps, this one might be a bit pricey looking at first, but it's well worth the money!
Horrible app
I have CKD and ingredients esp protein are very important part of my health. I scanned a container of high protein yogurt this am and the ingredients kidney pal listed were way off. It is important I do not exceed my protein limit but with inaccurate info I could easily non knowing double my limit
Thought yogurt was whipped cream
I would like to be able to correct my photo. I also did not add salt to the dishbut i think ai did
Frustrated
I just downloaded this app 3 days ago. It seems very useful and enjoyed the 3 days of usage. I keep getting a message to try PRO for free for “x” number of days. I am trying to enter food for lunch but I’m stuck in a loop. I do not want to try PRO for free. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but you should be able to decline trying PRO for free. I have since deleted the app.
Calorie
This needs a calorie counter as well to help loose weight if needed for kidney health
Fast food options
Noticed some Taco Bell foods are kidney safe vs others! Would like to see safer fast food alternatives for specific fast food restaurants. I am a nephrology nurse practitioner. Significant portion of the population I deal with rely on fast food occasionally due to cost/energy constraints
Way too inaccurate
The ap consistently misidentifies food. It will recognize pineapple as a fish filet. Rainbow trout as a pork chop. Cauliflower as Mac and cheese. It consistently overestimates salt and other problems in home cooked food and seems to have no way of correcting the misconceptions. Someone with CKD is trying to manage those, constantly checking labels, choosing alternatives to minimize sodium, phosphates etc, but the ap does not consider this. I thought at least it might help with eating out, but the ap only works with a live internet connection unavailable in restaurants. You cannot even take a photo to be analyzed when you get home. This is so inaccurate I do not want to use it. And they charge you a fee to use it.
Inaccurate data
I was so excited to see that you could take a picture of a recipe and it would automatically populate. Giving all the values needed. But when I created my own recipe and used specific ingredients, the phosphorus, potassium, sodium, etc. were all inaccurate. And wildly inaccurate. So I don’t believe I can trust this app to give me accurate information for my son‘s condition. So sorry.
don't believe everything you see
I really wanted to like this app because there are very few tools specifically designed for people with chronic kidney disease, and I appreciated the focus on phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and protein. To evaluate the app, I intentionally created a hypothetical day built around foods that are generally considered kidney-conscious choices, including scallops, rice, asparagus, green leaf salad, fruit, cream of wheat, and small amounts of cheese. The results were discouraging and didn’t seem practical. The app reported that I was already over or very close to my phosphorus limit while simultaneously showing that I was nowhere near my protein goal. In my case, I was still less than halfway to the protein target despite using most of my phosphorus budget. That left me with a basic question the app could not answer: How am I supposed to reach the recommended protein goal without exceeding the phosphorus goal? I also found another review reporting that the kidney burden scoring had become overly aggressive. The developer responded and acknowledged that a recent update had made the scoring algorithm too strict. Based on my experience, the issue may still not be fully resolved. The nutrient tracking may still be useful, but the overall scoring and recommendations did not feel realistic for someone actually trying to build a sustainable kidney-friendly diet. Instead of helping me make better food choices, the app left me feeling that almost every reasonable meal was a problem. The concept is excellent, but the recommendations need to be more practical and transparent, especially when balancing phosphorus restrictions against protein requirements.
Personalization
I don’t feel like this app gives enough personalization options. Based on my labs I do not need to limit my phosphorus or my potassium. It doesn’t give me an option to add that info.
78 yr old. CKD stage 4
If I had had this app five years ago, I probably would not have chronic kidney disease. Fantastic app.. helps clean your nails and keep you in guidelines to. slow down kitty disease and hopefully improve your lab numbers. I highly recommend this app..
Not “the” app
Tried to manually log Salmon, which has phosphorous. The nutrients failed to populate. So disappointed.
Internal
Installed in ios26. Can never log in when first setting up App. When I click analyze it says internal and does nothing. Must be a bug.
Not a good experience
I wanted to like this app. I love the user interface and the feature set is exactly what I was looking for. However, the dictation is hit or miss, although there are multiple ways to enter food, only a few of them result in a clear count of the macro nutrients. All of this would be fine if there was actually user documentation or guidance in someway, but there is not support gets you to an email so you have question and then wait for a response you can’t just get it done right then and there. I just think it’s not ready for primetime.
Something happened
There was some sort of update to the app that makes me worry about its accuracy. It is suddenly scoring everything way differently. Just to test it I took a recipe that I imported from the national kidney foundation that last week it scored as 25 a very good score I resubmitted it under a different name and now it's a 55. It is scoring my meals that hit not even a 1/4th of my daily limit as high kidney burden. It's disappointing because based on my numbers it's doing great for my lab results but now it wouldn't even hit my lowest limits if I had something like 8 meals day because it will only approve like celery. It's suggesting things like a tbsp of salsa is a high kidney burden with a score of something like 85. And while I know I should use moderation last week it was okay with that.
Works Well
I bought this app and have been using it. It had some minor issues but the developer responded right away and fixed them. How nice is that. I highly recommend this app. 5 stars.
Totally confused
I can track my meals, but do not know how to use this website
Haven't used it yet
Na
Almost good
Can’t log in individual foods. Has no database of common foods, so you can’t enter what you ate and get the nutrition results. Pretty useless unless you use their recipes.
Editing
I’m a detailed person. I’d like to be able to edit an ingredient exact name. I take a picture of the meal. The analysis is pretty accurate. Where do you get the phosphorus numbers Magnesium numbers and vitamin K numbers? They are never shown on the nutrition labels. I’ve been using your app every single day for 50 days. I’m getting a banner notification at 7pm CST saying my streak is at risk, when I’ve already logged all meals and snacks.
Hard to navigate
So far very difficult to use. Customizing measurements a nightmare when adding manual measurements.
It better than most
For the price there should be way more features and recipes. Also need more options for other health issues/blood disorders. I’ll try for a month and add another review.
Concerned
After filling in a few meals i had eaten , it made me relax a little and believe that i can do this!!! Recently diagnosed with Stage 3a CKD at 58
Difficult to set up
Not user friendly on first use. First, keyboard covers navigation after responding to questions making it hard to move forward. Second, had to restart set up 3 times because it didn’t remember choices. Hope this gets better.

Great scanner: accurate and I love this app!
I used to use myfitnesspal and then another kidney app. But the scanner never worked well. This is so good. It also gives ideas for swapping. The only problem I had was after transplant, I had to raise my phos and pot and mag and the app could not adjust. That was difficult.
It is no good
Can not get the app to open properly
Wonderful App!
I’m 43 and have stage 4 CKD. This app is really helping me managing my diet. It’s very user friendly. Calculates daily Electrolytes and Phosphate intake. Great recipes. Every food I’ve entered has come back with results, including restaurant and brand name foods.
Kidney friendly🤬
I hope people aren’t using this app to avoid dialysis.
Yay!
So far I like this app.
Run the other way- detrimental to kidney health
You probably are looking at this app because you or a loved one has kidney disease- these ARE NOT kidney friendly, and could promote kidney stones or increase cysts in PKD. They do not account for oxalates, many are loaded with sugar, high in carbs, and often low in healthy fats. Please do not use this as a reliable resource when it comes to your kidney health!
