Did just what I needed it to, making a font for my comic. I cannot imagine having to code this in any other form, and I love being able to do it from my iPad. I wish the in app purchase was clearer, because I have no idea where it is or what it does, but the app by itself is fine for what I need!
M5 iPad, Still Can’t Use This! Get iFontmaker Instead!
Updated Review: (04-28-26) I thought maybe after all this time they would have fixed this ludicrous problem. But, nope! Just let me use the app I paid good money for! I’m already signed into my Apple account, I can’t get any more signed in if I tried. If you’re like me and this app keeps asking you to sign in Apple, even though you are already. Well, just use the font creating app - iFontmaker, instead. It doesn’t put up a wall trying to steal your Apple account data. You buy iFontmaker for one price, it create fonts easily with many cool and different brushes and then you are also easily able to export and create your original fonts to use in any app you want. I was excited to try a different font creating app with this, it’s always fun and neat to have different choices I think. Yet, I cannot even enter this app! Bang! First thing is a window that pops up saying sign into my Apple account! I am! I’m here to create hand drawn fonts on my iPad. What does signing into my Apple account have to do with that?! I’m obviously signed into my account or I wouldn’t have been able to waste money buying this app! You know what happened after I bought the better font creator app, iFontmaker, forever ago? I paid the developer for their hard work and time and I clicked on the app to open it, and, tada! It actually let me enter the app I paid hard earned money for and actually use it! It was amazing! It didn’t rip me off and instead ask me to sign into my Apple account that I’m already signed into. You still have not fixed this massive problem. I’m getting a refund. I still feel so very ripped off after I paid good money for this app and the developer won’t simply let me into the app I bought. Why should I have to sign into anything?! I couldn’t be more signed into my Apple account if I tried, as I said. I thought after getting the iPad Pro 13 inch (M5) (2025) that just maybe this app would finally work for me, seeing as I basically had the best and newest iPad you could buy at that time. That wasn’t my reason for buying the iPad but surely the developer would have this dumb problem fixed after all this time, right?? But, again, nope! I’m still greeted, first thing, with a window telling me that I need to sign into my Apple account that I’m already signed into. No I’m not on a family account. I’m the only one who owns and uses this iPad. I only have one Apple account and as shown from the very top of the Settings app, I’M SIGNED INTO MY APPLE ACCOUNT! This app is not programmed correctly or it is trying to steal people’s Apple sign-in information. Those are the only two options for what is going on here in my opinion. Again, just buy and use the app - iFontmaker - instead. You’ll thank me and thank yourself and you won’t be greeted with a barrier telling you to sign into your Apple account that you’re obviously already signed into! Unbelievable! Wasted money! There’s no reason for me to ever have iCloud turned on. Why would you not just offer an option to get into the app for folks who don’t use iCloud. I feel so ripped off right now. I paid good money for this application and I even just saw whatever the “FUN Pack” was and was even considering buying the IAP when I got into the app. Even on top of what I paid to buy this app to begin with. But i cannot do anything because I’m forced to sign into iCloud or some madness. Why can you not just let me use the app I paid for please?????? This is ridiculous and maddening. iFontmaker does not ask me to sign anything. I open that app and I’m right into creating and exporting my own hand created fonts into whatever I want to use them in. Would you please update this app very soon so that those of us who choose to not use iCloud can please just use this program that we paid for? Thank you if you would. I cannot tell you how much I was looking forward to finally having another font creation tool on my iPad. Now I’m just seriously bummed out and ticked off like no other. This is ridiculous. Just because some people use iCloud does not in any way shape or form mean that everyone does who owns an iPad or iPhone. Dropbox and Box are way better in my opinion. I feel so ripped off right now.
Almost perfect
I wish I could import SVG or PNG of glyphs I created in other design apps. As of now it’s only possible to trace. However this is not a design app. It’s only meant for handwriting and simple shapes. I need a lot more control over the glyphs. This is why I use another app, like Affinity Designer (or Affinity). It would be amazing if this great app could recognize and accept images or SVGs as native shapes.
Just a novelty app
Not for professionals. If you wanted just to tweak an existing font, you can’t. You would need to redraw each letter. This app is good if you just want to practice drawing letters. You’re better off using fresco or illustrator; which would save you more time. Not worth $20.

I drew my font in procreate and now I want to import and vectorize the png files here in font self. Didn’t find out yet where this is possible?

Good app but still full of bugs. When writing, ling keeps breaking down. Pressure sensitivity isn’t good either. Love the app but a bit disappointed
Good but NOT free
While the app is nice, you can’t actually use a font unless you buy it. The developer says they don’t know how they could be more clear since there’s a pop up offering the sale and it’s on the App Store listing. You could be more clear by saying what you can and can’t do. Not being able to use the font at all is kind of a big deal. Obviously a free version will have less features or less times you can do something vs a paid one, but not being able to use it AT ALL is a huge thing to not mention and then just shrug and say “what can we do”. If you’re going to buy an app, being able to compare to other paid apps is necessary, instead of thinking you’re testing a trial version and getting snuck into having to pay to use. Just be up front dudes.

Awful customer “support” for a paying app
I download the IPad app because I thought I could import PNGs of my already created font to make it in this app, but it’s only allowed if I trace it in the only available brushes. Which is NOT what I wanted. I tried to contact customer service to get my money back since I bought it only less than 40 minutes ago and I haven’t had ANY luck. If I am PAYING $19.99 for an app, I am expecting way better service than this. Just AWFUL.

Great app in every sense. But the fact that there are no Cyrillic symbols breaks my heart. I'd really like to use it in my work, but unfortunately I'll have to be tricky
£15 to actually use the font
It’s easy to create the font, and for that I have given 2 stars instead of 1, but to actually use the font you’ve created, you have to pay £15. This wasn’t clear when downloading!
Features missing
I applaud the foundation of Fontself and the obvious thought behind the app. What I cannot figure out is the Lack of ability to copy and paste repeating shapes and the ability to fill-in the outlined glyph with black. Did I miss something?

Amazingly Easy to Use
This is a great app. It is so user friendly, you can literally create a new font in minutes. I love how the lettering preview shows you how the font will look as you create it. Beyond the simplicity of UI there are some more powerful features to refine your designs, and each feature is beautifully integrated into the interface. The one feature I really wish for is ligatures to allow for the creation of elegant, cursive type scripts. Hopefully this will be offered in a future release. For now, this app is well worth it, even for the casual dabbler.
£14 to actually export the fonts
This is actually a really intuitive app and you can easily make good-looking fonts... BUT once you have spent all of that time making the font you find out that you have to pay £ / $ 14 to do anything more than use it in the app itself
Have pay to use the font that you spend hours to make
Pros: The interface is straightforward and user-friendly, allowing for easy navigation. Features like customizable pens and adjustable stroke settings provide flexibility in font creation. The inclusion of a true vector font creator is a standout feature. Cons: Limited language support and fees for font export can be drawbacks. Users may find the learning curve steep, particularly with vector drawing, which can prolong the font creation process. Conclusion: While waiting for updates to address language support (including math fonts) and fee transparency, the software shows potential. Once these issues are resolved, it could become a valuable tool for font designers.
Excellent but there's still room to grow.
I'm just beginning to explore the app. It's worth the price. Fontself is really well designed, easy to use but also deep. There are plenty of apps out there for turning your handwriting into a font, this one goes so far beyond that. You can create conventional printing fonts, like serif and sans serif. If you want to do a type family you'll still want to get onto a computer for those professional programs (Fontographer or whatever), I'm not seeing any way to adjust the guides for drawing, say, an italic font, so that leaves a lot of room for inconsistency. That takes us to request #1: Adjustable guides. Mainly I want a way to create fonts with a smaller x-height but you might want to adjust for something different. For instance, it would also be nice to have vertical guides for letter width and adjustable slope (for that italic). #2: A manual and detailed tutorials. The app is seemingly so simple it needs little explanation. On the surface, yes, it is. But there are hidden editing tools that most how-to YouTubers never even mention. Not everyone is familiar with vector graphics. Request #3: Being able to navigate with one finger. When I try to scroll with two fingers the grid is twisting and resizing like crazy. I'm sure there are other desirable improvements. I am not in any way a type designer so I really don't know what else they could work on. Regardless, it's a great app.
Fun pack ruined it for me
The fun pack is a one time purchase, but not being able to export fonts without it made me only give one star. Also let me add in my own glyph ranges. Answer: they can get a job, preferably with a good salary. At least make the prices of the fun pack cheaper. I’s also like it if I could use my own glyph ranges. Answer 2: at least lower the prices and make it affordable and available to anyone who wants to make a Font with Fontself.
App is Really Great, but…
The app is really great, it’s easy to use and I really enjoyed making my own fonts, but I REALLY want to be able to make italic and bold fonts versions too. Then I’ll give it 5 stars, even though it really is an excellent font builder application.

We need Ligatures for iPad version… Other than that great app as always, I had the Adobe version for many years (but we all know why we left AI right? Maybe because of AI?) so with that said, missing many of the functions I had there… so, hopefully will be giving the app Five Stars as soon as they add Ligature capabilities for the iPad

Great and Free!
After a couple hours of use, I’ve found this app to be a super helpful tool for any aspiring font creator. It has great tools and workflow, the interface seems incredibly streamlined, and I have the ability to add more characters to my font than almost any other free font-making service. Reading through some comments, I found a lot of complaints about pricing. However, after exporting many fonts, I have found no such paywall. Maybe the developers have changed their app, but my experience with this app has been an amazing and completely free. If I had to critique anything, it would be the stabilization and shape making. As a devoted Procreate user, I am typically pampered with stabilization settings and strengths. However, my drawing in this app often came out wavy and in need of fixing. Of course, there are always the great vector editing tools to assist me with my jittery drawing, but this often came at the expense of a lot of time fiddling with settings. It’s the same story with shapes, they just took so long to make. With the incredible workflow this app typically has, this stood out to me. Then again, font-making is a time consuming project, and I still heavily recommend this app even with its small struggles. It is a great tool for any consumer and something you should definitely try, especially for being as free as it is.
