Works really well
I needed a U.K. number whilst overseas for business and OTP text messages. I moved to Devyce when Skype shut down and I am really pleased with the service and the app. No connection issues, portable whatever country I am in and low cost. Highly recommended
Avoid
The one thing this app has to do successfully is make and receive calls. It fails to do that regularly. I answer the call and neither of us can hear each other. Either that or one person can’t hear the other one. I’ve tried reinstalling, restarting, using AirPods or the speaker. Nothing seems to get it to work. This is my business line and I’m looking bad in front of clients.
Messages are received late
Everything works fine. I am not too sure why but if someone sends a message to me and my colleague- my colleague gets it 1 min earlier than myself—Something to work on
Frustrating unread badges
I constantly have “unread” calls and messages, but I have no way of knowing which calls or messages they are, so there’s no way to dismiss the badge. I thought the indicator would be the little purple dot next to the contact profile picture - but every sender has a purple dot! Maybe the unread messages are bold? Nope - every message and call looks the same. What’s going on?! How can I clear these unread calls and messages?
Ok for the money but...
Not a bad price for the service offered but the app is awful. Regularly have to logout and log back in to get it to update and occasionally have to just delete it and reinstall. Not just me as my wife uses it as well and gets the same issues
Perfect product
I’ve been using them for 3 months and this has made my life so much easier. It has taken away the stress of losing my phone number that I’ve had for years and having to update all my records with a temporary international number. Perfect product!
Reading and altering banking messages!
These guys intercepted a text message from my back and altered the message - redacting part of it. Wow. Quite probably illegal in the UK*, but that aside. Do you trust some randoms on the web to be reading and if the want altering your messages. Delete. Delete. Delete. * Data Protection Act 2018 Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) Computer Misuse Act 1990 So now I’ll love the management to comment by defending their position by saying somewhere in the T&C you agreed they could read your messages 😂
Generally very good
Overall very good app. Just wish you could send photos over the app and that the dial pad had letters on it since it makes entering passwords easier.
Buggy and temperamental
If I didn’t have to use this to keep my UK number as an expat I absolutely wouldn’t. An awful, awful app. Works ‘sometimes’, calls drop out when I’m on solid 1gbps WiFi and often nearly impossible to clear notifications. Really poor and irritating to use.
Ok but push notifications still an issue
I’ve used this App for well over a year in the USA and it’s been really useful to get 2 step notification SMS so I can keep using UK banking apps. That said, it’s really annoying that message notifications don’t show up unless I open the App. I’ve double checked and made sure that I have every notification option for the app turned on, but still don’t get anything.
It does what it says on the tin
All the advertised features of having your UK mobile number in a mobile whilst using a foreign SIM card abroad work 100%. When returning to the UK for short periods I use an eSIM for network connectivity when I don’t have indoor WiFi access.
Almost useless.
I downloaded this app and paid £8 to avoid extra charges while on holiday abroad. The app keeps saying your number is off and when you call it at times it goes through but won’t show on your screen. Waste of £8!!
A life saver but glitches
I agree with Iceroluk on those points and also it’s glitchy. It says I have messages by showing me notifications but they don’t actually come through… Sometimes if I send another message suddenly the others come in… Just temperamental. That said I couldn’t manage without it. I do not want two phones!! I do not have dual sim. So thanks but please keep updating
Calls not coming through
The app was ok, now calls down always come through, names disappear from phone book and messages. Contact support and same answer, uninstall and reinstall. It’s a lot of money per month for an app that works only a small percentage of the time. Will be looking for other options after 2 years of this application and persistence.
No ringing on Apple Watch
When someone rings me my Apple Watch doesn’t react and I miss the call if the phone ring volume isn’t loud enough.
Great app
I have been using this for 6 months now it works very well. Really please a great solution for a digital nomad
Unlimited LIES.
As the guy below have stated , the ap actually limites your texts at 250 a day , and once it reaches its limit , it simply stops working without any notice. Making us looking like a fool. I did contact the support and their reply was that its limited at 250 text a day, which would have a cap of 7500 a month. When I asked the support if they could lift this limit to up to a 1000 texts a day, they replied saying it was not possible and that 250 would be the maximum possible limit. So I just requested a full refund as it does not align with the expectations set by your marketing. So if you need over 250 text a day to run your business , avoid this app.
Works for SMS verification and occasional calls abroad
If you need to maintain a UK presence whilst abroad, ie SMS verification codes and maintaining a UK ring tone, this is a good service. I rely on it for constant SMS verifications which work pretty much perfectly, in terms of phone calls I do perhaps 4 per month and 1 of them will drop out. If there were a lot of competition, I’d probably give this 2 stars because it really doesn’t work very well and calls drop out without any warning. But seeing as there is no other option, it becomes a good option.
Low Audio Quality
Tried in several countries, several houses and for several months and while the app is great to use and effective at texting, the call audio quality is low and frequently cuts out or suddenly drops.
Bugs- hot fix needed
Very useful app, I’ve been using for a couple years and it’s been working well considering the bugs however I think the bugs are becoming unbearable and interfering with business, pleading for an Update asap. There are no enhancements as there hasn’t been an upgrade since I registered
Moved to india and wanted to keep uk number
I moved to India a few months ago and I wanted to keep my UK number. I had taken a Sim card from the UK with roaming, but I would rarely get phone calls from the UK and the service was really bad and it was hardly any network. I came across Devyce, and this solved all my problems, I always have network and Wi-Fi so making calls and taking phone calls from the UK has become very easy and seamless. I really appreciate the help of the support team to resolve my problems. I would recommend this service to anyone who is moving abroad and who wants to keep our UK number. The pricing is nominal and worth every penny.
AVOID THESE THIEVES
WORSE COMPANY EVER, THEY CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD WITHOUT MY AUTHORISATION. STAY AWAY
Works ok most of the time, however
The app works ok most of the time. Every month they take the subscription I have to remove the app and Reinstall it otherwise it wants me to input a code. Also have asked several times on their facebook page since when they will introduce the option to block nuisance callers, to date have had no reply. Not great on replying to customer questions, well not in my particular case.
So buggy
Sometimes rings, sometimes doesn’t. Sometimes when it rings there’s no button pop up to answer. Sometimes no notifications at all so lots of missed calls and texts. Notifications don’t clear. Actual calls are fine / good quality but the bugs make it pretty much unusable as we miss so many incoming calls and texts. EDIT. Developer response says to contact them. I did contact them long before I left the review and they told me it was with their technical team and that they would get back to me when they had an update. That was 8 months ago. I stopped asking for updates 6 months ago.
Idea is better than the reality
I have been using Devyce for sometime with very mixed results. The concept works but the app can be frustrating, with it freezing, collapsing ,needing to be restarted and even deleted and reinstalled. All of these things are not the end of the world until the final occasion when I had to delete and reinstall the app and it decided that it couldn’t find my subscription and my ported UK telephone number was lost. Customer services quite frankly were unable assist and didn’t show the level of concern that I had expected. So bottom line I lost my UK number and have spent a very long week contacting one hundred and one institutions to advise my change of number. So in summary, Devyce does work but don’t expect it to be without flaws and be prepared to loose and change your ported telephone number. That you developer for your response however I think you have misunderstood my comments. I did. of course port my Vodafone number over to Devyce but for some reason I experienced a number of technical issues using it on my iPhone. Eventually after yet another restart , removing and reinstalling the app , somehow I lost all of my data my subscription and my ability to use the ported number. It seems that in this situation Devyce was unable to help and I had an impression that Devyce were unlikely to resolve the issue meaning I had to resort to taking a new phone number. Not ideal.
So impressed!
This app is a life saver for me! I’m a Brit in the fitness industry who has online clients from both the UK and US. I currently live in Montenegro which not one of the UK providers provide any sort of plan for without it being something crazy like £2 a minute! I don’t even have a contract anymore! I just have a local E sim and Devyce and I call seamlessly make 8+ calls a day all around the world. The fact that I get to keep my British number with a British voicemail is also really important to add credibility to my business as I travel.
Drops calls, texts and voicemails don’t arrive, or arrive late
This app is slightly better than nothing, but only just. It’s a great idea, but functionality is completely unreliable. It drops calls, conversations cut out intermittently, texts and voicemails arrive days later. I’ve been using it for almost 18 months and it’s always been the same. I guess as soon as there’s a decent alternative Devyce will be history.
Needs Improvement - Requests Fall on Deaf Ears
1. When I receive a call from someone new (as opposed to an unknown caller or number withheld caller) the callers number is displayed but there is no way I can then give that number an identity (a contact name) and save it to my contacts. When I attempt to do this, it reverts back to losing the information I’ve just tediously entered and calls it an ‘Unknown Caller’. By comparison, it is so easy to save such a caller to contacts when using a SIM in an iPhone. 2. When I receive a call from a known number which has a persons name attached to that number, it still only shows the number instead of the name until I answer the call when the name magically associated with that appears. It means I have to answer every call even though it may be someone I don’t want speak to for whatever reason. It would be nice to see the name of the caller rather than just the number which they are calling from as you would get with a SIM in an iPhone. Explained the above to Devyce helpdesk several times. Nothing ever changes. They just send me a new code to use. Just as poor the earlier code. I don’t know why they bother. It’s detail like this which lets an otherwise excellent product down. There never seems to be any iPhone App updates for this product either. It may be falling behind the times with the blatant lack of development. I may have to look elsewhere. Quite happy to re-visit this review if there is an improvement in the app itself and the above issues are addressed but I’m not waiting forever.
Buggy and not intuitive
Almost every part of this app seems to have problems. The notification badge doesn’t match the actual messages or outstanding items. The app crashes frequently. Deleting messages and voicemails sometimes doesn’t work at all and why you have to long press on items rather than swiping left like most apps do for deleting, I really don’t know. This app could be great and it’s actual utility is awesome. But for some reason it needs some work and how the design choices made it through quality control is a mystery. I hope the developers respond to this and fix urgently.
Good concept, awful App
Have this for Bank, elderly Dad, Helplines & when visiting UK. Can’t imagine any serious business wanting to rely on it. Notifications/Badges don’t show, rarely rings if there’s a call, have to regularly check if logged out by itself or if those wretched ‘Working Hours’ have reset themselves yet again. Devyce please sort out your product if you want to be taken seriously.
Works perfectly for my needs
I moved out for the UK for a couple of years and wanted to keep my existing UK number and have the ability to receive messages/calls overseas, especially texts made to authenticate online payments etc. Just before I left the UK, I requested my PAC code from my existing network, entered the info into the porting form and I was ported to Devyce the next working day. Really efficient. Now I’m abroad, I have a local SIM and I’m still getting texts and calls without any issue to my UK number, I just open the Devyce app to view when I get the notifications. Works perfectly for my needs and really happy with the service.
Terrible, don’t bother
So slow to use, doesn’t have contacts, can’t copy and paste numbers, cuts out. Would not bother downloading this app
Good app, needs some improvements to make it great
Firstly the good. It is a reliable and easy to use app providing the exact need I had of moving my UK mobile to an app based service to use now I am US based primarily. What could be better? Well notifications seem poor. The app never seems to notify me of text messages and calls. Not sure if issue is just mine or the app. When I open app I see them. So in this area I would love to see CallKit integration so phone calls show in my main phone app area. Another area I would love to see is CarPlay integration. Many other messaging type apps have this and it should be fairly straightforward for this to add that feature. Keep up the good work though, great so far overall.
Clunky UX but does what it says.
I needed Devyce as I live in the EU and with Brexit I needed to keep my UK number for work purposes. Someone pointed me to Devyce and after a week of testing I bought a years plan. It does what it says. I can receive and make calls over my French or other wifi network. I can send and receive texts. So why not 5*? I1: it’s clunky. For example I sometimes cannot open the text message. 2: you cannot send or receive photos by sms 3: the contacts defaults to your app profile and not your contacts profile on your ohone. 4: the UX needs to be slicker. It’s slow and have to press several times to open a message. 5: You cannot forward or copy a sms to send on for example or save. So all in all a good app but needs improvement.
What can I say?
Where have you been all my life? After 20+ years frequently working in Europe, but based in the U.K. devyce/xpatfone is the answer to all my problems… especially following Brexit! Seamless switch over, the devyce team were incredibly helpful and ported my number with absolutely no problem. It works a dream! Thanks so much - you’ve made my life that little bit easier! AMAZING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Needs serious work
I love this product, but every single call I receive is dropped without reason or exception and I have to either call them back if they’re a person or pray that they will call me back if they’re corporate entity
It works well but …
I started to use Devyce when my network provider in U.K. (three network) decided post BREXIT to start charging £2 a day for the pleasure of using abroad … and I live up to six months a year in Spain .. so when my old contract ran out I ported to Devyce and this far no problems making / receiving calls and texts. I’ve given 4 stars because there are some things that need to be addressed.. 1. iMessage and FaceTime stop working with the ported number because apple require a physical sim .. surely there must be a workaround for this .. maybe a no cost or very small cost Esim or dual sim solution that devyce could provide to spoof the iPhone into continuing with the same number 2. The colour of the app interface for messages received .. whilst I understand it’s an issue of branding it’s not the best idea having the same/ similar colour for any links in the text as the background message balloon 💭essentially can’t see the link within the sms .. needs to be a contrasting colour for all the text within the balloon not just the message but any links within the message too 3. Devyce does not have an mms solution, which I believe is linked to the iMessage problem, so you can’t send a photo or file within the app… if these three problems were resolved I’m pretty confident you would have 5 stars+ .. for now I will continue to use devyce as I do need to continue with my original U.K. number
So far, very good
I installed Devyce a few days ago to overcome the problem that EE will no longer offer unlimited roaming in certain countries - even though I was paying c. £60 per month for my package. My UK number was ported to Devyce very quickly and the service dept keep you informed at every step. So far I’ve only used the app for calling and messaging the UK from Israel, but it’s worked perfectly. The settings screen is not as user friendly as it might be, but that is a tiny price to pay for what seems functionally to be a very good system.
Doesn’t work
Paid £8.99 for a subscription, received the second number. This didn’t work and wouldn’t receive texts. I tried to sign in so I could access support only to a message saying my email didn’t exist and that I don’t have an account. Waste of money!!
From 3* to 4*
Earlier review of mine turned out to be callers sound issue, all calls are just fine now I’ve had it a while. The app is basic & does the job but it’s not very intuitive & a bit slow at times -deleting text is a minefield but figured out in the end. Doesn’t update on same screen but have to go back to main menu & will see that it’s been deleted. -wish the contacts were synced, would be easier to search & find & call people. 🥰love the voicemail option to just be able to listen, hard to figure out how to delete though. All in all not bad, wish we could have more numbers available to be virtual on the same app.
Amazing
I have been able to keep my 2 UK numbers while being in Spain. So now I have 3 numbers from one phone which is phenomenal!!
Not great and don’tport your number
This app worked well for a couple of months but now the app is unresponsive. I can’t answer calls, make a call or see texts. I know I’ve received texts as the number in the chat feature goes up but I can’t see them. Basically it is useless and I’m unable to do anything. Support are quick to respond but don’t really know what’s wrong either and other than delete the app and start again they haven’t been able to help. Don’t make the mistake I did in porting over my number. I am now completely stuffed
Great customer service
Super responsive and helpful!
