Does it’s job
It’s not really as good compared to the website, but for a mobile port, it’s pretty good. It has all of the features that I really use, but it could use some slight improvements like advanced features. The ui, search, and anime news are all perfect and the app has no ads unless you want to watch a preview which significantly improves my rating for it. You could still use the website in a browser if you want to use other advanced features but overall it’s perfect for me.

Good app. Wish it had a few more features.
It’s a good app for the vast majority of the stuff I use MAL for. I do wish the app had a few of the features that the full website has. The full site’s search function is more robust with filtering options for genres, themes, and demographics. Would be nice to have natively on the app without having to basically use the mobile site via internal browser. Some adult-oriented titles don’t show up in search results on the app but will on the full site. I’m sure that’s more to do with the App Store restrictions, but a “see full site” placeholder for the title on the app would be nice. Sometimes I only know a title and assume it’s not on MAL when it’s not in the search results. Side note: My original review was for a bug that has since been fixed. Not sure if the developer’s response remains after I make this update.
Needs work
App doesn’t launch half the time. I constantly get stuck on the startup splash page unless I delete and reinstall the app. Missing a ton of features that are available on the web, like sorting capability etc
It’s good but I prefer the website
It just lags a lot and constantly gets stuck and give me a network error when everything else I use is fine and working
Love it but one issue
I love the easy connectivity and having a platform like this but my one issue is that there’s not a dedicated button to be able to write reviews and I want to be able to easily start discussions on the app, also not great when everything directs me back to the website I would rather just be able to access everything on the app. Otherwise love it!
Disappointed
When I went to go sign up I signed up through my Facebook and then did the process verifying my email. After a process when I finally got logged it agreed to terms and everything I get hit with an error saying that I can’t sign up at this time. Try again later
Option for notes
I like the current app, but is it possible to add the option to add/edit notes for series on our lists? Similar to the notes feature on the myanimelist website.
Has been the exact same since I was a kid
Ever since I was a kid in the early 2000s this website has looked the exact same and has been just as tedious since the beginning. the app is no different, besides it being worse
decent if it works
App is fairly barebones. Decent when it works. Half the time the app is stuck on the logo splash screen. Lacks a lot of features and often opens in-app browser to compensate. Might as well just use the web version instead.
Crashing problems
The app is awesome but lately it won’t stay open on my phone. Is there an issue causing it to crash? The website works fine.
App is poorly designed
I try to go to a specific episode - some of these shows have 1000+ - and as I scroll it seems to be uber sensitive and it closes my progress on it. So bad!
English titles
The app does not have a way to switch to English titles like the website does. The app also hides all 18+ content so you have to use the website to track that. There also seems to be a memory leak somewhere because the app crashes after you open and close a bunch of shows (for example if you are looking for the English titles). The app starts slowing down and then content stops loading completely and then the app finally crashes. It takes quite a few shows to make this happen though, 50-100, and it usually lasts another 20 before crashing.
Notifications Broken
I used this app to track new releases which seems to work fine on desktop and send emails just fine but for new episode releases the notifications do not work. I had to switch to an app that is based on Anilist for new episode airing notifications.
Ehh it works I guess
My main complaints are being able to choose the English title by default, and seeing what platform(s) the titles will be available on. Another thing is I think separating complete seasons makes things more difficult they should be under one tab and be able to separate in there.
HOW DO I WATCHHHHH
I rated this 5stars so ppl could see I’m trying to watch one of my favorite anime’s (Bungou Stray Dogs) and I can’t figure out how to watch it!!
App doesn't open?
App used to work fine, now even after uninstalling and restarting my phone several times it does not work. Will not open past title screen.

I’d like an option to hide friends’ activity, as it can take over the home page.
Can’t close AD’s
So in order to watch a trailer I have an unskippable AD? That also sometimes doesn’t even pull up the X button so I have to close the entire APP just to get out of the AD?! Absolutely ridiculous.
Needs English Titles Option
This really needs to have an option to display the English titles of anime and manga like their website. Really makes it difficult to find the titles in my list through the app and have to just go back to using the website instead.
Great app, useful
An extension of the website, this is a great app and service for all levels of Anime fan. Lets you keep a log of which anime (and manga) you’ve watched, rate animes, find out about anime that are coming soon or in development, flag anime coming soon that you plan to watch and get notified when they are released (though not which streaming service carries them) and lots of info for every anime and voice actor. The database is very broad, and includes anime-style shows from outside Japan, and shows going all the way back to the start of anime as a creative medium are included, from the very popular to the very obscure. Very functional with a free login, if the paid version allowed a LOT more ‘favourite’ animes and voice actors to be chosen and I had the cash I would sign up for paid. I look up, update, or track anime with this app almost daily. (At the moment MAL services are undergoing maintenance (didn’t see any heads up about that, but oh well) so I figured it would be a good time to come over and do a review. ^.^)
Can’t log in on iPhone
Reset the app multiple times and the entry space to type in username and password don’t work…so I can’t even use the app. I’ll just wait until the app gets better in the future.
One thing only
If the Reddit app gives you the option to enable/disable NSFW content in your settings, then why can’t MyAnimeList? I want to track my hentai too!
Browser experience will be more user friendly
The ads for the app are super intrusive, using an ad blocker in your browser is absolutely the preferred way to use this site.

I’m a one piece fan and wanted to take a look at the character’s list. For some reason, I cannot access it but I remember going on it when I chose my favourite characters. It can also be because of my iPhone 6. Is this a bug or is the list gone?
Dumb app
This app makes no sense. I got it because I assumed you’d be able to quickly tap and add anime to your list. It’s almost as hard to just make a list yourself with note pad and google. Why is there no just major anime list where you can click and just add to your list. You can only go through recently released anime.
please display studio favorites
convenient app so I dont have to open a browser and login especially on mobile. But it would be nice if fav studios were also displayed alongside characters/manga/anime/people
No ability to see release calendar or notifications
No ability to see the release calendar or get episode notifications in app or in the site. This is a basic feature so many other sites use. Ownim for Cantonese a secondary site just to get the episode release notifications I want over email at least… if I didn’t have such a big list I would have moved apps ages ago to like MyAniList or something… refuse to give higher than 2 stsrs until this feature is fixed

Lacking Collections
I tried to add not 1, but 3 manga and the titles were not even there. These are not single volume manga, but 5+. Also tried Japanese title, just in case. Fail.
I would give 5 star but I need filters to be saved and option to select manga first
It’s a great app for a good site ; but I hate how I have to keep selecting manga and filter to latest update ; I want this to be an option to set as defaults as I don’t track anime
A Dang Shame
I love your website and all the features you all add but as for the app that does not excuse the poor optimization, EXPECIALLY WITH THE ADS. Every ad I scroll past makes the app slower and my phone hotter. I also request one feature: When you press the add to list button and it goes too the rating screen. The dates for started and stopped; I’m very glad you added the start and end dates for the anime there but I would like if I could just tap a button like the ‘Today’ button to easily say “I watched when it came out to when it stopped”
Lacking features, frequent crashes
If I search for a title and go through about 6 entries (tap to read more, then go back, continue through search, repeat), the entries start to display less and less info until the app crashes. Also, it’s very odd that you cannot search by genre.

Google login doesn’t work on app
Tried so many times to log in with my account that is connected through google and it does not function on the app.

Am I being hacked by the app?
Lately when I use the app, I keep getting notifications saying “scanning your device” and now whenever I try to update my list, it brought me to a website that’s been saying the same thing. Now I’m too scared to even open the app.

Great app for tracking anime!
I love using the app to track my anime and manga lists. Prefer it actually to using the website just because it’s really simple to use. Updates are also frequent, they added in-app browser, dark mode, and manga list relatively quickly! Only minor design that bugs me a little is the top icons (clock, Wi-Fi, battery etc.) is black on blue in light mode. Since the blue is quite dark and the MAL logo is white, it’s kind of jarring that those system icons are not white on blue and only turn white in dark mode. But overall love it, great app!
Horrific UX
You’re better off using the mobile website, as this app has a fraction of the functionality and is nowhere close to intuitive. Click on a discussion a seiyuu, a review - it just opens a browser and takes you to the mobile site anyway. One would think the app would open to your list, but no, it opens to the message board. No options for customization or anything that justifies its existence over the mobile site. Useless.
Near Perfect App, However…
I’ve been using MAL for years now, it’s very convenient and allows me to keep track of what I’ve watched and what I haven’t. However, I wish there was more functionality for Manga, sure you can find manga pretty easily by typing in the name of an anime series, but there is a LOT of good manga that don’t have anime adaptations, so I think it’d be great to have some sort of way to find manga, like a “most popular” or “adapted works of the season” tab. I’d just love a better way to find and keep track of manga since it’s also nice to keep track of it or find new popular manga but can’t because there is no function for doing that. Other than that, if you’re keeping track of anime, the app is perfect.
This Doesn't make any sense
So I like to look at manga and this app let's me to watch manga and etc but when I download this on my iPad it doesn't allow me to watch any anime or BL manga anime. I tried tutorials, looking it up, but nothing it just a list of anime that you can't watch. So I highly recommend do not download this app
This app needs more update!
This app feels so limited compared to web version. I can’t even share my completed anime list or adding people as friend without switching to browser.

Specific Genre Filter System
Its hard to decide what to watch when you have a particular genre in mind because of the current state of plan to watch list
Take the censorship off the mal app
Take the censorship off the mal app, it doesnt make sense to not even have it as an option in settings, and just leaving the spots blank in your list. If its an act to allow children to use mal 'legally' then just put censorship as a default option and have it so we can agree to the tos to be able to acurately list the anime/manva/manwha we watch/read. And another thing: have the pfp's of characters be voted upon in a poll, either permanently or just season by season base, a lot of the current pfp's look ghetto/ a lot of work was clearly absent from the photos, so having an everchanging selection would keep the fanbase engaged and entertained by the images chosen that are 'up to date'.
Potential
Being totally honest, it drives me nuts that we can’t search by genre. I like to browse and the app is completely lacking comprehensive filters, making the search engine frustrating. Even doing something where users can tag shows themselves similar to the ranking to show genre. The website is a lot better than this. I often have both pulled up because the app is too limited. I do like the chats though. it really just needs to be updated!
