Was IN LOVE! Then…
I am quite disappointed to see the app jump from $20 a month to $30 a month. I know the new pricing is within industry standard but an extra $120 a year is pushing the app outside my budget. I love using it and there is not anything else like it. So I am forced as a consumer to pay it. Maybe the team would consider selling a 1 year access to app at a discounted rate at like $200 or something to help with the price hike. Plus you get more money upfront and don’t lose the chance of a month to month person unsubscribing early
What happened?
I have had this app for 4.5 years and for the last 6 months it’s been very inconsistent. Glitches galore!!
Love this thing
I love hitting a row each day and having someone to encourage me to give it my all.
Basic feature missing
Cable came out in the middle of a workout. Tried to quickly turn everything back on to get back at it, but the video I was following was nowhere to be found. There’s no way to continue what you were already doing!! Such a basic feature that’s missing. Very disappointing.
Pretty cool
So far it’s really helping me meet my fitness goals. Decent interface, mostly intuitive. One thing that’s odd: You can’t manage your account from the app. I had to start my subscription from the machine. Kinda dumb. Decent otherwise.
Spam notifications
Why is this app still sending me push notifications for workouts when I’ve turned them all off in the settings?
Lackluster support
The smart recommendations feature died coincidentally with the last app update. I reached out, and although it took a free tries, the smart recommendations finally returned. No real explanations from support but at least the issue was resolved. I still think hydrow needs to improve their support.

This is an awesome and helpful app I couldn’t ask anything better
Worst App I have used.
First, I will say I can’t even get to the usable part of the app. I signed up on the rower and trying to login to the app it is trying to make me re enter all my data I already entered. I am sixty and it is making me scroll month to month for 60 years. Not gunna happen. It wont let me skip these steps. Honestly, I am not even sure it is not creating a new account for me even though I hit the sign in button. I have now tried 3 times so I know i didn’t accidentally hit the wrong button. Why would it ask for info I already entered into my account? The email address is the same. Just a bizarre experience so far. Maybe the app is great once this nightmare is over. For now I will skip it.
Good app
I like a lot about this app, but one thing that makes my obsessive compulsive disorder flare up is that if one tried to click on “add to my calendar” for the live rows, it is not possible. There isn’t an option to allow Hydorw access to one’s calendar and support let me know that it is not possible to add a live workout to one’s calendar. Please remove the option to do it if it is not possible. It is not quite as easy to use as the device itself to lookin at my progress but it is still handy. I like that the Apple Watch app lets me use my watch as the heart rate monitor.
Great videos, poor app
Because there are so many videos, it would be very helpful to be able to search across them. There are also programs with various instructors that have increasing levels of difficulty as you build your skill, but it’s nearly impossible to find them in the intended order. Love the videos, but what a bummer the basics an app should have aren’t here.
No music when using Apple TV to workout
I used this app in the past and loved it. Just rejoined and realized when I use my Apple TV there is no music during the workout. When I view the same workout on my phone, it plays the music. I saw similar comments on Reddit. Please fix this issue because I really enjoy these workouts with the music.
Helpful companion to the Hydrow rower
The app is a great companion to the amazing Hydrow rower. Especially for those days when I’m away from my Hydrow and want a short exercise video via the app.
Disappointed
This is an update 5/2/25 I have had this app since Circuit training started…like since 1/23?there have not been any new classes in that section since 4/4. Not a good choice for me any longer, yes, I know there are 221 workouts in library, but I am getting tired of having to repeat. I thought about dropping for a month to see if new ones are added & then re-subscribe, but nope, not at $29.99 a month. $10.00 increase? App not worth it. I may go one more month to see what happens with new workouts. circuit training but disappointed that they have dropped To only one new class a week, that’s if you’re lucky! That’s what I have this app for, and now am feeling I am not getting my $’s Worth…. I know there are tons of other stuff which I use Occasionally, but circuit training was my reason for signing on. Hmmm….what to do……
Needs functionality for Concept 2 Users
This is a great platform and there are lots of excellent workouts. I understand that the app is intended to complement the Hydrow rowing machines but I feel that a small amount of additional development work would make this a versatile app for use with Concept 2 (or other) rowing machines. A workout timer and target stroke rate would be welcomed to make this a 5* app. 6*s if you could load the workout to a PM5 monitor like ErgZone. A great app but could be even better for Concept 2 users.
Great videos with not even the basic features
The video production is top notch. I like the trainers and the workouts. However the app lacks even a basic text search forcing you to rely on filters. You can’t favorite videos, you can’t earn trophies, you can’t track sensors as it’s really just a way to make money outside of Hydro's own rowers. $15 a month for what is basically a rowing video player is ridiculous. Youtube is better, and cheaper. Let’s hope Hydrow starts to care about users who don’t have a $3000 rower in future development of this app. Update: the dev claims you can favorite videos, I removed the app and can’t test it. I did try several times to favorite videos from the list view and the description view and it did not work. The dev also claims you can earn badges, but again this did not happen in my trial. My rating stands.
Issues with audio after update
I typically use my app for rowing and connect it to Apple TV via airplay. For two years had very few issues. After this last update I can no longer hear music with rowing sessions. My phone gives me the option to play more or less music during the row but no matter what I select I get only the voice of the coach. Please fix! Thank you! Great app otherwise.
Hydrow
Great app but needs some bugs worked out. If casting to a tv, you cannot see stats, even on original device, as it gets greyed out. Also while casting, if a notification comes through, everything just stops. Watching solely on device works flawlessly and instructors and scenery are fantastic.
Warning this app does not connect to the actual machine
If you were looking for the app to connect to your machine, I would reach out to these people because that’s the only way you’ll be able to find it. You can’t activate it on the machine itself unless you reach out to them after I reached out to them I had to cancel my app purchase that I already made and they said they would activate everything for me on my machine. I go to my machine and I bought the free workouts so I didn’t need a membership and now that they’ve updated my account now I have no workouts for free every workout that was supposed to come with the machine is locked now even though I’ve completed all of them. Now wants me to sign up for the membership again prompting me on the machine, which has never done before. It seems like these people don’t really care about their customers as they would’ve made a better user-friendly experience for this frustrating issue.
Love the app but please pass music through AirPlay
Great app but why doesn’t the music transfer to my Apple TV when airplaying a workout? Please add this feature as it looks like it worked in previous versions.
No full screen on iPad
If you look at the reviews they are all a year old. The app gives you an iPhone size in the horizontal mode on the iPad. I contacted Hydrow, set them screen shots and no response. I contacted Apple and they confirmed it’s a developer issue. So just be aware you are not going to get a full picture on your iPad, just the iPhone size
I’ve tried many …
I’ve tried many exercise devices to motivate myself to get in shape. I signed up for a Hydrow machine to see if that would work and I totally love the video coaching and the quality. It’s been so great that in the past 45 days I’ve been rolling on over 2/3 of those days.
Great machine but crazy high membership fee
I used this rower a lot at my gym and was going to buy one for my home but the $44/month membership fee is crazy high. No thanks!
Mixed bag
Great content, love the on water classes and instructors. I have a concept2 so integration with pm5 would be nice. But more importantly the digital app should show target metrics, otherwise you have to pay close attention to the cues and remember them. Even with the great content I’m likely to cancel and just go back to apple fitness where they at least show spm on the screen etc.
Convenient
This comes in handy when we are on vacation or if my HYDROW is not connecting to our internet
Casting/Airplay to TV No Longer Working
I bought my Hydrow in early 2020. It is heavy so it is on my ground floor. When I do on the mat workouts (yoga, mobility, pilates) which I love, i take my phone to my exercise room on the 2nd floor where I have softer flooring and a frame TV for this purpose. I don't know if this is due to a music vendor update, but casting and airplay functions have disappeared. This is a huge disappointment for me and I am not sure if my membership fee makes sense anymore.
Great Workouts Disappointing Audio
The Hydrow workouts and instructors are excellent. There’s a huge variety of workouts of varying intensity and duration to fit in just about any schedule and level of fitness. The music selection is also great however there is no way to adjust the audio mix between the instructor and the music. In many cases I can barely hear the music. Hydrow says there are options on the app to adjust the audio mix but I can’t access them on either my iPad or iPhone which is unfortunate given the cost per month for the app.
Foundation
It is the foundation to my fitness comeback. Their coaches keep you going.
The machine is a rip off
Why would you not record a single workout or even allow for longer than a FIVE minute session without paying FORTY FORTY DOLLARS a month. Are you kidding? This machine is nearly $3k and is totally useless without a ridiculously overpriced app. So disappointed looking into returning my machine.

Excited to see how the new hydrometrics work. I love seeing the numbers, it’s what I’ve wanted to get more of and here we are! Still would love more graphs but I’ll take this win😊 Previous Review: I love my hydrow!!! I enjoy the app but I wish I could search for classes more easily and I really wish there was more analytics. I’d love to see my yearly stats or be able to view my streaks further back than the 30 days shown. Also it would be so cool to a histogram of rhythm and meters throughout a workout. A girl can dream!
Basic Digital subscription music overpowering

Everyday I find a workout , long distance , short splits , circuits , yoga , etc … Pete is my man ! Hydrow was my rehab after an open heart surgery… the best ! I’m 71 and plan to keep rowing and moving , and lifting till I can’t ! Cheers ! Yves Durif .
Same Expensive monthly charge yet limited app experience
$19.99 monthly charge is Very expensive. Comparing with Hydrow’s major competitors on the market, is it the most expensive with least amount of features and content. There is only one audio mix option allowing user to turn off music completely. The other 3 commenting and music audio mixes offer Very poor voice/music audio balance. ======== Rowing content is good but with the same monthly charge, the app users only receive very limited experience. One of the biggest drawback is the audio quality. The app doesn’t allow users to switch volumes btw coaches and music while Hydrow rowers offer this. The audio balance is really really poor. This app is a rip off.
