Downloaded this app to check it out and they started charging me for it. Didn’t realize that just downloading it to check it out meant you agree to pay $15.93 per month. Never used it, forgot about it and now I see they’ve charged me for 3 months. $50 stolen.
Generally happy
I was very happy with the app and find it easy to use and track everything on. Only thing bad that has happened is all my April data has suddenly disappeared and I don’t know how to get it back unfortunately. Not ideal as I don’t know the daily data just the April total but don’t even know how I would renter that?

Weird math and shameful tactics
The math is really weird and I don’t quite understand how I’m saving or not saving money in the middle of the week. Also, the tone of the prompts/tips/whatever are quite full of shame! I am not trying to go fully sober, just trying to cut back a little, and having one drink on a Friday night (for me) does not mean “losing control.” It makes me not want to fill out the prompts or use the app, honestly. Some more neutral language would be better. The UI and the fact that it is free is nice.
Great app
This app is very helpful in multiple ways to cut back or quit drinking. It’s been well worth the fee and my reduction in drinking more than makes up for the money spent. It has a great online community of supportive members who encourage each other, share triumphs, challenges, and tips. It also has a bunch of “lessons” based on cognitive behavioral therapy and other models that you can do and re-do at your own pace, and as many times as you need. It has great tracking tools to track drinks, alcohol free days, urges, downsides, and benefits. Finally, it has great tech-support. There’s a contact form if you have any questions or problems with technical glitches, and they have been very responsive and helpful. Whether you want to quit or just cut back on your drinking for whatever reason I highly recommend it.

At first, I loved this app. It gave helpful information to assist in quitting drinking, puts you in a support group with other people that use the app and has a tracker for calories saved/$ saved/drinks had. An irritating aspect is that the tracker is not a “running total” of these items. I would like to see the tracked items saved to date instead of the tracker resetting back to zero each week. But I could live with that. Now when I post in the online group, none of the posts are saved! It’s quite frustrating when you’re asking for help/feedback from someone just to go back into the app and see the post didn’t even register in the system. I’m emailing this company to ask for my yearly subscription money back, don’t waste your time trying this one.
Good app overall
I’ve been using the app for going on 2 weeks and have liked it enough to spring for the 6 month membership. I love the program and how there is so many helpful resources there. It really helped me the first couple of days staying distracted and reminding me why I got the app in the first place. The group feature is nice and serves it’s purpose as well. The tracker is ok but it could use some tweaks as many have said. I got this app a few days into being sober and wish I could add those dates to my tracker but there doesn’t seem to be an option. My only other critique, like many others, is the inability to private message people. I don’t understand the point of having “matches” and when you click “send a message” it sends you back to the group to mention them. There are certain people I connect with more than others and I don’t want to derail the group conversation by having sidebar conversations with individuals. I saw feedback from developers over a year ago that said this feature was “on the roadmap” but I’m disappointed to see it hasn’t happened yet. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that within my 6 month membership this becomes a reality, because otherwise I will likely cancel my subscription. Obviously like many said, some sort of block feature would be important, or even a setting in your profile where you could opt out of receiving private messages.
Angry and frustrated! And yet…
This is a great app and surprisingly helpful in keeping me focused on my goal. However, it deleted my sober streak because I hadn’t logged in for a week. I’m ticked off because this was a hard-earned effort and watching the number of sober days accumulate was a major factor in keeping me on track. Now the app has reset and I’m back to zero. $&@(!!. Also, there’s no support or option to contact the developers or moderators within the app to ask questions. Super frustrating!
Couldn’t Navigate
I have an iPhone14Pro that is in excellent condition. This app has navigation arrows at the very top of the screen and my phone just doesn’t do upper left or right corners so I had to delete the app. It was so frustrating, it almost drove me to drink. I decided to find an app less frustrating to navigate instead

My card was charged for a full year during the trial period. They will not get back to me. I’ve tried contacting them several times.
Good, but could be better
So far I do like the app. The “program” and information has been very helpful. I do enjoy the group chat, especially that you can change groups if necessary. However, I think it is lacking in some features. I’m not the first to say there should be a calendar. I can’t see which days are being accurately tracked or even go back to see the dates I last drank. The tracking itself is sometimes inaccurate and it’s a fight to update it. I also don’t understand why you have “matches” with others within the group chat if you cannot DM those people. What is the point? It would be nice also if there were a chat search feature. I would like to be able to search another persons older posts so I can understand their backstory or if people already exchanges where they are from. Since most of this app it automated it shouldn’t be so much to ask for these updates.
Charged me without any permission.
I NEVER agreed to join the app’s premium membership. But yet I was still charged $65 just a few days after downloading it. I have been trying to contact anyone at all that would be able to help me get my money back but the Drinker’sHelper website and links won’t load. They seem to be disabled or something. Really unhappy.
Whole drinks only
I would love an update that allows for a drink that has 1.5 shots of liquor, currently only whole numbers are allowed. Otherwise great app, love the anonymity.

iPhone Issues
App functionality does not work well with the new iPhones. You can’t select the profile or group links at the top of the screen.

I like the workbooks, they are very helpful to teach you more about mindfulness and techniques about recognising urges and situations rather then thinking it’s best to ignore and shut them out. To make it better the group side of it, I would like a group that I could choose for complete abstinence rather then most made up of people who regularly talk about cutting back, for some this is great and will work but I need and want to have nothing so would like this support from like minded people but struggling to find it.
Doesn’t fit iPhone 12 mini
I was very excited to start this journey, read a lot online and picked this app. Soon after downloading though, I quickly realized it doesn’t fit on the screen for an iPhone 12 mini.
Good accountability tool
Good for accountability and and courses that help you to understand the negatives of drinking, those courses had major impact on my motivation to stay sober. The chat rooms were comber some and sometimes hard to follow if there are multiple conversations at once. The application constantly freezes which is highly annoying. Overall good accountability app. For the $10 per month.
Really helpful
I’m not an alcoholic but I do drink more wine than I should- especially since the pandemic started. This app is GENIUS and really well thought out. It has really helped me learn about why I drink and has given me tools to smarten up and stop drinking . It actually works. Thanks to the creators of this app - you’re saving people’s lives.

Please fix “notch” issue
I like that app. However I have to tap very carefully on the top of the screen because this app is not optimized for the notch found on all newer iPhones and many androids. Very disappointing. It greatly affects the usability of the app. Please fix.
Great app but notifications are too much
There is no way to customize notifications on the free version and it gives upwards of 25 pings per day, all of which are then bugging you to subscribe. Kind of a horrible way to harass people are just trying to make a change for the better. I ended up turning of notifications completely and am just hoping I remember to track my progress ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Bad interface
The premise and resources are excellent The tracking is awful. I’d go from 5 days with 0 drinks to 1 day after adding …. 0 drinks. If you don’t log a day it resets and if you put in the missing day the streak just gets jacked up. So nothing to look forward to as the days tick up.

Claims to have a free version but it’s a lie
Never able to access the free version, only sticks on the “try DH premium” and won’t let you skip, say no, pass it or anything. I probably would have tried the premium once I got a feel for the app but this was either a deliberate bug to force people to pay right away or bad programming - either way not interested anymore.
It’s a great idea, and helpful.
Lots of helpful content, but they position themselves as tailoring their experience to your needs. That’s not really happening, all the info is for severe alcoholics, not for me who simply is aiming for a dry January.

I just wanted to track my drinking accurately without judgement or trying to “get me in e program”. Welp, neither things were achieved with this app. If you want to put your drinks in for the day before, it won’t let you! In addition you get to be annoyed by all the other people on the app lecturing you and bemoaning their failures. Ugh.
Could be so much better
I am on my second month of this app and while I would say it has helped me rethink my drinking, it could be so Much better if it offered a group moderator or even encouraged people to take more of lead. The chat service has so much potential, but the app is dropping the ball on this.
Amazing
This is the first app that makes me feel like a real person. It is personalized, easy to use, and for the first time GIVES YOU A SUPPORT GROUP WITHOUT FACEBOOK!!!! Thank you!!!
Monthly fees, buyers beware
This app wouldn’t let me change the date for my “sober days.” I started a little bit ago and decided I’d like an app to track. Once again, they charge a fee monthly, every 6 months etc for like $20 a month. No thanks.
Be warned, it’s another money trap
So I was really encouraged going into this, I liked the question section, getting to know me and explaining the program. Then you get to the part where you are going to be matched with your group and realize you have to pay a subscription to do so. I don’t mind an investment towards better health, but I’m tired of apps that seem really great and then drop the money bomb. Just be transparent in the beginning so it’s not a surprise when you get to the money part.

If you are trying to really give up alcohol not recommended
I’ve been on this app for almost 30 days all of which have been sober. However, even changing “rooms” to be with alcohol abstinent folks most of the chats are about drinking “just one beer”, still blacking out and saying people want to be sober but literally drink everyday and wonder why they feel like garbage. I can’t wait to skip rooms again (you only get so many per 30 days). I did a 3 month Subscription so will use as a tracker and try and give sound advice to others suffering while doing so. Find truly sober folks if that’s what you want. Not this app.

I signed up for a 1 month subscription but was charged for a 6 month. There is no go on how to contact someone for support about this. Otherwise this is a good app and I’d give it many more stars. If someone can give me contact info for me to remedy this I would gladly change my review. Otherwise I tell others to be careful about subscribing.
Subscription needed for any value
I was looking to track my daily use and trend but this app didn’t help. This is AA binary focused. Either You were successful and hit your goal every day Or you failed. Back to zero. No trend tracking for a functioning alcoholic just trying to start somewhere. To be fair, My review is solely on the free version. The apps focus is on paid subscription which I didn’t do. There may be great value there with the paid features and support groups.
Need help, but where do I go?
Initially I thought this was great, but I can’t change my preferences. I can’t edit questions/my profile in light of my changing needs. And I don’t know how to contact anyone for help. Wouldn’t mind if you didn’t have to pay. Shame. It’s a great concept.

Good app, good resources
I like all the resources and insights, goal tracking etc. The only thing I would recommend is smaller groups. When I first started chatting to my select group, there were about 5 people there and no one was talking. I kept greeting people as they joined and soon everyone was talking but now there are 20 plus people with more joining every minute and I can’t keep track. I have no idea who some are and Conversations are getting lost in between. It would be nice if there were direct messaging options and smaller groups.
