Update 3-11-26 app no longer connects. Update!
Did the update March 11 2026 and now the app no longer lets me connect. My sound system is no longer usable. It’s not my phone because there are three devices to control it and now none of them will connect. They quickly released an update that fixed the issue. Works fine again !
Overpriced junk
It’s not just the app - the entire system is an overpriced piece of technological junk. It’s expensive, hard or impossible to maintain, buggy and at the end doesn’t provide even the fraction of functionality that systems like Sonos, Philips Hue or Ring do. It’s “all in one place “? Yes, but in this case it a liability not an advantage.
Works well
We are still on OS3 and it works very well with the app. Would appreciate a bit less latency on intercom calls but otherwise very happy.
Clunky
This system is clunky and unreliable. The UI sucks, the way you add zones and play different sources is very unintuitive and its constantly crashing or not responding to the app.
It’s on and off with me
Being completely honest, I like the app but the people who install are unreliable and will read the messages you send and never respond. I have asked multiple times over multiple months for assistance and they say they will get back to me and do not return my texts or calls. It’s very disappointing. Don’t bother getting the app since the people who install it don’t ever care once you’ve paid them.

Elegantly Apple-esque, but light years beyond. Steve Jobs and Jonny Ive would be jealous.
Intercom is a mess
It has been years and they continue to ignore the intercom function. We installed two touch panels and a DoorStation to use this functionality and it’s terrible. Dreadful. Rarely works when needed. Delay to answer calls from iOS is ridiculous. DoorStation rings on iOS without any dependability. Ring is way better and way way cheaper. Been this way for years. They ask for feedback in the app so they seem to be aware of the issue. I have no confidence they will do anything to fix the issues.
new update totally makes the app not work at all on ipad
since update I cannot connect to my system at all The app is now working properly on my iPad.
Barely Passable
Clumsy - especially for audio/listening - and fails to integrate regularly with streaming services such as Spotify, Qobuz and others. Regularly disconnects with BluSound, a popular audio system. Choosing which zone to play is unintuitive.

Okay so I may be young be I don’t get how you all hate on this app. You know “it’s buggy” and all the stuff like that. Maybe you got bad internet or something else. Don’t be hating on an app that makes it so that you don't gotta wait for the remote to connect to the system. Maybe people who’ve rated this 5 stars have better internet or they just got a better house than you. You’re self probably has to get another house. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Broken
App was “fine” when it worked. Not great but it did work. Latest update just opens to a black screen and crashes after 10-15 seconds. Unacceptable for a company of this size.

Mediocre and Unreliable
When the app works, it’s ok. The issue is frequent failed attempts to connect even on the same network. The UI is ok, but my family mostly grabs a remote first since they are much more reliable. Notifications work sometimes and not others, which is less than optimal as well.

Awesome Control4 System App
I've been using the Control4 for OS3 app, and it's been a game-changer. The responsiveness is impressive, thanks to a well-sized system installed by my dealer. Like many users, I faced initial challenges, but once the system was correctly set up, everything became incredibly snappy. Kudos to the app for enhancing my overall experience!

3/10/26 update broke your app
After today’s app update it no longer works. Can you have your developers try and fix it. I’m hosting a get together later for my porch and my guest will not have music now.

Not sure how the most recent uodate can be worse than the OS it replaced, but it is. Does anyone at C4 read these user reviews?
Missed potential
While it’s an improvement over the previous version, we’re still missing Apple integration. To be able to use Siri or setup shortcuts with the Apple shortcut app feel like missing features.

It’s a great app but to maximise the utility and ease its absolutely necessary to create a control 4 app for OS 3 for Apple Watch.

The new version is great on iPhone and iPad. But until it has an Apple Watch companion app it is not the full package. If it had this it would be 5 stars.
OS3 update
With the latest OS3 update Control4 has moved to another level with the ease of use and modern user interface. The control and functionality is simplified but also gives the end user much more customisation of display and operation. Control4 bring out regular updates of software and firmware and are constantly extending their product line so you know your investing in a company that are moving in the right direction and aren’t going to fade away. We have many clients with C4 systems and have great customer satisfaction. We will continue to use C4 as our smart home system of choice.

Very buggy
The quality of this app just terrible. Intercom doesn’t work when you need, cameras are on and off. C’mon Control4. You need to step your game up! I doubt I’d pick you for my next house.

Apple Watch app critically missing
App solidly built, high reliability, excellent remote connection, ease of use. -1 Star due to the continued unavailability of an Apple Watch app for C4 OS3 (Apple Watch app only available for C4 OS2).
Find a different system
I thought this would be the right system for our smart home we built, and it turns out it’s too clunky and slow responsive. We spent way too much money on our smart home to have such a clunky and what seems to be an outdated operating system. I’m trying to figure out an alternative way to run my house as this just isn’t working smoothly.

Useful, could be perfect
I find this app invaluable, I just wish it would actively run in the background, rather than requiring it to reconnect every time one switches between apps. Additionally, as has been said by others, can we please have the intercom app unified into the OS3 app, please?
After 5 Years Use-Still Suboar
I’ve used C4 for 5 years. Have a large fully automated home and gates. While the app does work, it does get buggy. The door station has lag times to ring to the touchscreens, same with ringing to the phones. The light and fan switches work quickly and wonderfully. The music interface could work better—especially when it comes to Apple Music—and using family profiles for music. For the substantial money I have invested in this system, I expect and demand better.

App no longer works
Updated app. No longer controls my whole home audio. Kinda expected this some day as the installers could never get the Control4 system to control my home theater. Most money I have ever spent on an AV system that doesn’t work.

new software never has good features, you need to pay your installer to run software updates (which i find ridiculous) there’s absolutely no ability to have multiple tvs in one room and you can’t even play music in the room at the same time the tv is on. my installer set up two rooms so one has the music for the room and one has the tv which i find very weird and adds a lot more confusion to the UI as i have double the amount of rooms in my system now
