Set up a new apex after years
Was pleasantly surprised at all the improvements since the last head unit I programmed.
Terrible
Terrible company with terrible half finished products. Don’t waste your time or money.
Not super intuitive
Took me a bit to figure out the app. After that I have had no issues
Very hard to use
It works … when configured properly. It took about 3 days to learn how to use it even looking it up on YouTube, Reddit etc. And months of troubleshooting. I got an algae outbreak in the process due to an unintuitive UI leading to poor configuration.
Where’s the new update?
They promised an updated app by mid September and there’s nothing yet. I prefer if you under promise vs over promise and disappoint!
Jim
Had fior over 12 Mts with apex and apex sky and accessories never hag an issue great product
Not working in iPhone devices
For some reason when i try to connect my classic apex isn’t doesn’t show i try with multiple devices but when i try with a android device immediately appear my apex so i don’t understand why don’t apper i have all the required from the app on
Needs 21st century update
Needs a better UI and widget support.
I really wanted to like this
This system is not user friendly. Trying to talk to someone requires a ticket. The low water level never worked on this system. The ph checker quit working 2 months after I got it. It does not work on a 5g network, which everything is switching to. It’s so complicated to adjust things, you almost need to be a programmer. It’s not for people use to normal apps.
Below Average Effort
Very little effort has been put into developing this app. Long periods of time between updates or improvements. By now, this app should have had a widget to at least show Water Quality and to launch the app. The user interface has no appearance of having arrived in the 2020s. Having said that, what has been designed and developed does work as designed. Little problems in AFS and in MXM software maturity, but it works and it makes working with my Apex system smooth and reliable.
Great app!
Awesome app especially since it’s web based. Something for the future that would be amazing is to have live activity’s of ph or temp or any other monitoring the Apex system does. Overall impressed with the app!
No support for slightly older devices
Should be able to use older iPads as monitors and you can’t.
Great for control - could be better
First I love the functionality of seeing what is plugged in and then writing if/then rules to turn stuff off and getting alerts on parameters. As others have said please please add a widget for iOS. Also I find it ridiculous that the data set view is only 7 days long. I want to view parameters swings over months and then view how things have changed. The fact I have to scroll to see and then can only view that week is so silly for a hobby that takes a longterm approach to changes.
App works on android.
Can’t get app to start, goes to login page then crashes back to iPad main screen. I’m sure this is more of a fault of Apple being most of Apple software is junk. But love the app on my android. Needs to be restarted a lot.
Needs a widget
I love Neptune and its product ecosystem but this app needs a widget. Being able to see your aquarium’s parameters at a glance would be game changing and I know this feature has been requested for years now. PLEASE ADD A WIDGET
Works great, a must if you are away at work or on vacation.
I have several tanks and have used this app for at least 5 years and has saved me many times. App could be a little buggy at times but has never been a big issue.
Terrible app
So I have had this system on a shelf for a couple three years. I was able to get the app and apex system connected to wifi. However in order to use the DOS pump you need to update firmware. The video that explains the process is completely worthless as it uses a completely different version of apex unit. The home screen on the app…..would be better off if a 10 year old designed it. Absolutely no intuitive flow. NONE. The app needs to be redesigned. Period.
Solid app that needs a few new tools
This is a solid app. Opens quick. Updates quickly No issues with crashes or hanging. Nice to have quick access to reef parameters and notes. Would love to see an option to share latest test results easily and also a widget for iOS Home Screen would be cool.
iPad and android
The Bluetooth app does not load correctly in neither of this to formats so I’m unable to link my SKY lights. I had to borrow an IPhone to set it up also after set up if I log on another device it wants to start from scratch it does not keep the set up in the account…very disappointed.
Keeps logging me out
Multiple times a day makes me login and enable face id. Again and again.
Love apex!
I love apex! Wouldn’t run a tank without it!!! But I do wish they had more compatibility with cameras or come out with one of their own! Would definitely buy one!!!
0 stars - it gets worse and worse with every update
This app has some of the most annoying bugs, like the one that repeatedly causes disconnection and repeated wasting of calibration solution. I'd give 0 stars if I could because without calibration, the readings are useless. Update 1: Another reason for 1 star: rather than make meaningful updates, these clowns are changing checkboxes to toggles. Very important updates right there... NOT! What a waste of time! Update 2: Also now the automatic water change task no longer supports gallons. In their quest to add waste-of-time improvements, they've broken fundamental workflows. The UX now only supports mL despite the dropdown being set to gallons. Get it together people!! Nail the basics!
Great but could be awesome!
There are some things I wish that the Neptune app could do. 1. A quick look at parameters on my Apple Watch 2. Be able to get notifications on my watch if something happens. 3. Ability to add/subtract things from the start page to see at a glance.
Buggy
For some reason this constantly prompts me to login. I just open the app this morning and now less than four hours later it is presenting the unauthorized screen. Each time I login it’s almost as if I set the app back up from scratch - allowing Face ID, etc. kind of wonky.
App is just ok
I do appreciate having access to my Apex in an app, rather than having to go to the web. That said, this app clearly could be dramatically improved. • it’s clearly a hybrid app, written with a tool that supports multiple platforms. As a result it has a super confusion workflow and doesn’t feel like an iOS app. My biggest gripe is that swipe gestures don’t go back, and they don’t utilize a tab bar at the bottom. • the app often stalls at launch and has to be force quit and relaunched, or renders wrong so that it only uses half of the display • no support for widgets or other iOS features that would make a lot of sense. If you’re downloading this app, it’s not like you have another choice. You want this to manage your Apex Aquarium controller. That said, I really wish Neptune would invest in making a great app instead of settling for this mediocre one.
Room for improvement
Great app, works well but not that user friendly. I appreciate the tour guide which def makes set up easier but it still feels clunky and for someone who’s not tech savvy, it can get complicated or difficult to grasp. Another thing I would love to see is widget support. Having to open the app every single time I need to do something such as turning off a pump or activating a feed cycle. Another thing is for the DOS. When setting it for auto water change the “in out” labels on the left pump don’t match the label on the pump which is fine. Where id like to see an improvement, if I set the right pump to “on” to remove water, it actually works as the pump is labeled. Basically it pumps waste water BACK INTO the sump.
Nightmare setup
On the Apex pro box it states there is an easy setup video guide showing you how to set up each piece of equipment. This guide on the app shows you how to power it on, then how to set up WIFI. That’s it. Then it sends you to the app and you are supposed to intuitively know where to go and what to do. From there, assuming you find what your looking for, everything is written. No videos. Plug in your PH probe. Which one is that?? Nothing is labeled. A box of parts. How can a project team overlook such basic steps in getting a box of parts set up?
Needs to utilize UI info square as widget
I’m an avid reefer and as much as I love going on the app, the newest feature within the ui beta should be used also as a customizable widget. I would love the app even more if I had a widget on my home screen that give all necessary info that allows me to click and shortcut to the app quicker. That would be great, the layout is perfect for it.
Stunning
What the app can do is amazing. But he entire UI is beyond awful. I’m a small person and the buttons are too small and to close together. I don’t want any of the sliders that enable and disable operating or EDITING — ever. The amount of scheduled tasks that were forced on or off because the app thought I wanted to set edit module code and not turn off the module is unacceptable. Buttons that do the same thing across screens should NEVER bounce around the screen from page to page. And a swipe up gesture to get to the dashboard? Have you not tied this on iOS? The only thing crazier than the amount of things the app can do is the abysmal rate of errors that occur when trying to get there. TOUCH errors. Terrible.
Love Apex Fusion, Loath Excess Chrome
First let me say that while I love Apex Fusion, there were a few things that we raked me. Device name length limitations being the prime issue. The new update which includes BETA UI option (which I received around 2021.08.07) is something of which I am not a fan. Few concerns: - Streamlined Overview - I appreciate the widget style dashboard for key metrics, but why doesn’t the entire page show more than one aquarium? I have one aquarium with APEX and another with the APEX EL, and both contain metrics on cards that easily fit together on a single page. - Excess Chrome - the BETA UI aquarium name banner at the top together with the Apex Fusion app name banner consume about an INCH of space along the top of my screen (iPhone 12 Pro Max). An inch of space which could display an extra metric, card, or control. - Slow and Buggy - the BETA UI is buggy and slow. It doesn’t consistently tender all screen elements. I get it. It’s BETA UI. I’d much rather have had a separate beta app, than one that has the beta UI baked in to be toggled on and off. I don’t like my regular experience upset if they don’t need to be and the experience is definitely degraded in my case. I hope this feedback will help the dev team work out the bugs sooner than later since I don’t get a choice in apps (side by side install).
Great way to monitor my fish
This system is great. I can keep track of my fish and check on them whenever I want. I recently had an experience where my brother was the account holder. He passed away recently, and Paul, CB, and Louis at Apex Systems helped me transfer ownership of the account. Super great customer support. I’m so pleased - thank you so much.
iPad mini 2 12.5:7 crash
I’m using an iPad mini 2 with latest sw and app won’t start. It just crashes- using the iPad as a display and control for the tank
Great but needs some tweaks
I honestly feel the app would be so much more powerful if the reminders would send out a notification and badge in order to show how many reminders are due. Also with the implementation of Siri Shortcuts, I only have the options to cancel feed modes and open dashboard. Currently I can’t start a feed mode. Hope my input helps
Unable to login on app
I’ve been using for years with no issues, now I keep getting a login error. On every other device it logs in. I reset my password and it still didn’t work.
Difficult to slide
Such a hard time to make components on and off when needed manually. Have to jump on a desktop and use a mouse. Not happy at all. What a waste
Very Happy!
Very happy with this company. Been using there products since there inception. Have most of there products on several tanks. My fish and coral thank you also! Had some parts go bad and they took excellent care of me. Solid company!!!! Hendrik Van de Poll
Regrets
Can’t stand this UI setup or anything about this system. Completely regret getting it.
Needs to support Apple Watch
Great app, but would really like to see it available on the Apple Watch. At the very least get alerts on my Apple Watch, but would like to see some functionality.
Lacking
I’ve had the system about a yr and for the most part it’s okay. For the money, questionable. Support is lacking especially in the app. Click “contact support “ and nothing. Click “open manual”, nothing. Try to contact support from a pc and it’s anything but simple. Try to log into the forum, tons of red tape and unsuccessful. Disappointed.
Love it but......
I does have some flaws especially when using the graphs. OMG why would you make the whole page move when scrolling through the graph. But love my apex
Works well
Works well. I have been using it for two years with no problems. It really need Siri support, HomePod support and HomeKit.
Trash
It’s insane that the equipment costs what it does and has an app that is complete trash. First my PH probe somehow began reading wrong after only a month. Then I started having connection issues for no reason. The app says the equipment disconnected from the internet 1085 times in a 24 hour period. So I restarted the system today and now it says I have no equipment connected. I have a PH and temperature probe connected. This is absurd. I will never buy another product we from this company I have made more reliable equipment the DIY route.
Needs Siri
Should be compatible with apple HomeKit
Exceeding expectations
This app and the apex hardware have exceeded my expectations. I absolutely love it. Thrilled with my purchase. I have a dedicated ipad as a monitor and I use my iPhone in the field. Great job Neptune, keep up the good work.
Major flop
For what is essentially a tech company Neptune Systems really dropped the ball on this app. It isn’t user friendly. It isn’t well designed. It is flowing or smooth. It’s a clunky, jumbled mess. They clearly spent the minimum on development and moved on. It doesn’t utilize widgets which would be huge for a controller. Instead of taking the time to open an app you could just glance at your Home Screen. But does Neptune allow that? Absolutely not. Because they rarely listen to their user base. It’s their way or the highway. Always has been. Always will be. Until there is a culture change at Neptune don’t expect things to get better for the end users. But we don’t have a choice. We are stuck with Neptune. Nobody else enters this space because Neptune is a cult following.
Need Siri and some UI updates
Definitely needs some work with the UI. Looks like it was put together for a old Nokia phone. Needs to be more user friendly because something as making it send notifications is like impossible. Apex works with Alexa now needs Siri.
