What people like
- Simple and easy to navigate
- No ads or extra clutter
- Shuffle feature finds relevant passages
What they complain about
- Lost multiple translations after update
- New translation has nonsensical words
- Does not save your reading spot
An amazing app and text
Shuffling to a random passage always brings up something relevant. This app soothes me, and is a helpful translation.
You wrecked it with the update!!!
I loved this app… being able to compare insights from four different translations was amazing and now there’s only this awful clunky public domain version 😩 So sad, I would never have updated the app if I’d known
Recently downgraded significantly, but still a good app
App works great, nothing excessive, very clean, very easy to navigate. The app used to have four separate translations of the Tao Te Ching, and the developer has replaced them with one version now, probably because of copyright issues, which is disappointing. I really appreciated having multiple interpretations to switch through, to understand and experience the text in different ways. Anyway, the app is still solid, and the current translation seems good to me. I would still recommend the app to those looking for a very lightweight, simple way to read the Tao Te Ching on mobile.
Translations WAY Off
This app used to have great translations then there was an “update” and all the translations have completely changed. 90% of them are so bad they don’t even make any sense. Total disappointment because it’s the only app that solely presents the Tao Te Ching.
Miss the translations option…
This was my favorite and preferred way to read the Tao, but the loss of the multiple translations makes it no longer useful. Such a shame - I realize it’s complicated but would love to be able to pay for those translations.
Ancient wisdom
Always a grounding read
Update ruined this..
Looking for a new app now because this new translation, as mentioned by another, isn't as good
Stripped down to 1 version
Used to have 4 versions that you could compare. Now it’s just the 1, still worth reading though.
Downgraded version
When I first downloaded the app, I could choose from three different interpretations and that option has been removed. I do not like the version that it now presents.
why are the different translations gone
the app was perfect and now there is no translation change, it really diminishes the quality of this app :(
bring back the copyrighted versions
love this app and its still great! was confused today when reading it, always loved the Mitchell translation
You destroyed everything beautiful about this app
What a complete waste of everything. The only use for this app was it sending you a reminder in the morning and having FOUR TRANSLATIONS. I specifically downloaded this app for those translations and you just destroyed everything good about it. I’ll never download anything from y’all again
Please add bookmarks!
The app is perfect, not overwhelming and no ads, offers different translations, etc., BUT it doesn’t save your place when you’re finished reading and kicks you back to the introduction, so you have to just guess what chapter you were on.
Eliminating the Translations Was A Bad Idea
I’ve downgraded my rating from a five to a two because the latest app update eliminated the various translations. In previous app versions, tapping the book icon enabled you to choose from several different translations. You could read the entire book in a particular translation. Or you could a chapter over again from several different translations and receive deeper insights. The one translation that remains is generic. The app no longer has value, so I am deleting it. The app had a good run and this is a reminder that change is inevitable and all things come to an end.

Updated Review: Change in translations
Original Review This has been a five star app until the update. Now I can’t read from the translation that made the most sense; i think it was called the “Gia-Feng”. This new solo translation isn’t as profound. Quite watered down in my opinion. Bring back the option to change translations!!! Updated Review 4/22/24 I am striking back some of these words for understanding why the update had to get rid of multiple translations for copyright reasons and the fact that the developer provided my favorite translation as the default. I do appreciate this, however, I was wrong about that other translation originally inputted as the default. I ended up enjoying its uniqueness after wrongfully criticizing it too soon. Please, at least, bring back the original default translation you had before changing it to what it is now (Gia-Fiu Feng). I believe its best to have both readily interchangeable and forgetting the rest. Thank you for providing such an app and adhering to this review 🙏🏾
What happened to the different interpretations by the different authors?
This author doesn’t really resonate with me.
Need page marker and highlighter.
The app is easy to understand. Drawback, it doesn’t have a way to mark page for reading flow, nor does it have a highlighter feature on favorite sayings and way to write notes on favorite sayings. Overall, great app.
What happened to the translations?
It was better when you could toggle through a variety of translations. Why did they go away?
The Tao Te Ching and The I Ching
I love this old wisdom so much. It’s complete and true for me far more than Christianity has been.
Recently changes are not great
I liked it when it had multiple translations, now it's not really worth it as an app anymore. Sorry, developer.
Recommendations
Great app, but I would appreciate more variation of font and font size. I like smaller text, and I'd love the option of Times New Roman. Thanks!
Errors abound.
Misspelled and nonsensical words interspersed with the text. I'm deleting it. Releasing beta products w/o telling the public AND not refunding the 4.99 is NOT respectful of the spirit of Lao Tse nor of daoism in general.
Wonderful little app
It’s nice to have this and I thank you. The way.
New translation is garbage
After the recent update removed all the previous translation, this app is basically useless, because the new translation is unusable. It contains words that don’t even exist in the English language, like “rignumber” or “insnumbere” (both found in Ch. 3). Is this some sort of April Fool’s joke that’s a week too late? I’ve been using this app for a long time but unfortunately since I cannot undo this update, my only choice left is to delete it.
Nice app but it needs some sort of bookmark
I really like this app, but I wish there was someway to keep track of where we left off if we are reading the chapters in order. Perhaps that last chapter read could be highlighted in the table of contents. This would be great. Also, when, using the shuffle feature, I would like to be able to go back to the previous chapter that I just read. Some sort of go back function would be nice, because if you use the shuffle future, if you can’t remember the chapter number of the previous one that you read, there’s no way to find it. I would like to be able to go back to the previous one, and the one before that, and the one before that. But out of these two features, the bookmark feature would be better. I really would like to be able to read the chapters in order and remember where I left off. Thank you to the app creator for listening!
New update ruined it
I have used this app for at least a year now and have found a lot of peace from it. However, the new update which wiped the array of translation options has completely ruined it for me. I do not know which translation I was using, but it was much easier to read. I would be willing to pay for a premium version of the app with restored features.
i love this app but why did you change it
why did you change the format from before? the before one looked way better! and i could also choose font sizes, and i could choose which translation version i would like :( i miss it
Upprepar
samma vers dag ut och dag in.
Tao
I read this every day if I remember even with the daily reminder.
No landscape. Should be possible. Pity.
See title.
I’m glad I found this
This app is the best app on my phone at the moment.
Dumbed down, poor interpretation, and simplified
Dumbed down, poorly interpreted, over simplified
Perfect ✔︎
I thank you for this app many times over. Mitchell’s is my favorite translation. I carry the little book when the battery’s dead. (It *would* be nice to allow landscape orientation on my iPad but I can live with what is.)
Thank you
This app is amazing. It has 4 translations for English speakers, all with unique interpretations of the content, but all with wise words.
