Essential App for Groceries
I’ve used this app for my grocery shopping for over four years now and it remains one of my favorite and most practical apps. I can easily arrange aisles based on the stores I’m visiting and the order I like to shop. Notes help me remember specifics, like the quantities I need for recipes or a particular requested brand. The watch app has been a game changer for pandemic shopping; I can quickly reference my list and cross off items without grabbing my phone. Overall, this app simply works and rarely fails, and does what it promises to do very well.
Lost watch support in watchOS 27
Has worked really well for me for years. Loved the watch support while in the store. With iOS 27 the app still seems to work on iPhone, but I no longer see it listed in the Watch app on iPhone nor on the watch itself. Watch support seems to have just vanished. I’ll probably keep using the iPhone app. I like the UX. But I’ll miss the Watch app. I hope it returns.
s.o.
Does a decent job, hasn’t been updated in a few years
The app works well, still holds its own against other apps. On the watch, I haven’t been able to select a store to get the custom sort order since Apple retired Force Press and the developer email address does not work, which is concerning.
Perfect!
One of the only apps I use that functions exactly how you would hope. There’s not a single feature lacking. I’ve used this app almost daily for over 4 years and still no complaints.
Don’t buy sync!
Loved this app for groceries. Easy, simple design, good starter database included, recalls repeat items, section for notes. Then I purchased Sync to back up lists before upgrading device. EPIC FAIL. All data went Poof! Vaporized, Disappeared. Gone. Multiple yrs building lists I depended on. Efforts to contact developer/help bounced. “Message has been blocked. Relay access denied.” Looks like developer has been MIA several years. Cannot recommend.
Excellent shopping list app but no support
This is an excellent shopping list app. It is so easy to use and clean to look at. I’ve tried a number of shopping lists apps or task apps for shopping lists but Milk for Us takes the cake. Even the kids have the app on their iPads and love helping the family shopping. A few minor improvements and fixes would make this the best shopping list app available. However, there is no response on the support email. Is it possible to get support? I would give this app 5 stars if I could get a response.
Awesome!!
Love this app! I have been using it for a couple years and is so user friendly!
GreatApp!!!
This App is really great and worth the subscription price to be able to share ie with a spouse. Either person can add or mark it off the list if they happen to think of something that is needed
Doesn’t sync properly anymore
We can’t get this to sync properly anymore. Given the annual charge this is disappointing
It was great a few years ago
Loved this app back when it was being developed but it seems to be abandoned now with no updates for years. The sync was pretty good at one time but it’s now causing a lot of problems. List items disappear, don’t get synced, duplicate, etc. I’m going to find a new list app for the store. It’s great to have the aisles set up correctly so you can walk through and pick things like a warehouse, wish it still worked.
What a Great App!
Milk for Us is such a great app. I’ve been using it for years, and it’s always reliably here on my phone and watch to help. Setting up and revising a shopping list is so easy. When I need to get groceries, I simply scroll through my list and select what I want. By choosing from my set list, I don’t need to worry about remembering things - it prompts me instead. Once my list is set, I head to the store and mark items off from my watch as I shop. This is the only 3rd party app I use on my watch. It works flawlessly like the native Apple watch apps. Thanks to the developer for your great work!
Nice App - Milk for Us
“Milk for Us” - I love it and use it daily. I’m a Groceries & Groceries4 convert (no longer available). I looked hard to find a good shopping app. After working with an App and tailoring the database it’s difficult to change. I’ve now used “Milk for Us” for 9+ months. It’s quick, basic and simple to use. It has all basic needs and abilities for shopping items, also easily modifiable. It also has a “note” field which can be used for various comments and/or item quantity wanted. It also allows you to strike through completed items as you shop, then delete when you want to declutter the list. Nice App for those who just want an easy app to use without all the pictures, prices and etc. Also shareable with family members or send via text or email.
Naja
Slow Sync
With a shopping app you have to commit to putting all you items in the lists. It takes a long time so you’re then stuck with some features you don’t like. This one seems to be the best in the bunch but here are the down sides: 1) syncing with another family member is extremely slow and random, even though you have to pay for it. 2) there is no option to turn off screen lock while using the app so while you’re walking up and down aisles, your phone will turn off. I’ve tried contacting the developer on these issues to no avail.
Just Right!
I feel like Goldilocks who just found Mama Bear’s bed. And I’ve tried a lot of “beds”. Milk for Us is just the right mix of features and simplicity. It is visually simple and easy on the eyes, as an iOS app should be. The name is odd in my opinion but the app is GREAT. Grocery Gadget was too complex, replete with prices, taxes, pictures, etc. I used it faithfully for years patiently waiting for an Apple Watch app that never came. It got old shopping with my phone in one hand, repeatedly retrieving it from my holster. And sometimes leaving it unattended in the cart or on a shelf somewhere while reading nutrition labels. Wanting an Apple Watch app, I next tried the Grocery app (lemon icon). It was simple to use but with confusing settings. Their Apple Watch app is tied to the Reminders app which has limitations such as no aisles. So I added the aisles to the note for every item but my notes randomly disappeared after each shopping trip. And it wasn’t so good at “learning” my shopping order in the store as it claimed. I still had to manually order the list before each trip to the store especially after adding new items. NOTE: I purposely waited to review Milk for Us until after I added all my groceries to this app and did my first shopping trip with it. I love this app for 3 main reasons: 1. I like ability to create/edit my own aisles. But if you know your store layouts well, you can just use the default aisles instead of creating new ones like I do. (I’m just a little OC about this.) I only shop at Target but if you shop at more than one store for groceries, it would get cumbersome creating custom aisles for each store as you’d have to have duplicate products, one for each store. I guess you could indicate the store by editing the products with a symbol or letter to differentiate them. 2. I like the ability to default sort the aisles .. my grocery list is ALWAYS in order when I shop. 3. I like the Apple Watch app! It works flawlessly, just tap the items as you put them in your cart. GREAT USER TIP: Adjust a watch setting so Milk for Us appears when your watch wakes, so you don’t have to keep opening the app on it while shopping. To do this, open the watch app on your phone and select General > Wake Screen > On Screen Wake Show Last App > then choose either “Within 2 Minutes of Use” or “Always“. If you want a simple grocery app that works the way we shop in the real world, TRY THIS APP!
Convenient shopping list app
Super easy to use with an Apple Watch- much better than a paper list. Nice visual design, as well. Would like it if the watch app remembered which list you were using when it gets closed so you didn’t have to re-select it each time the watch closed the app. Also would be nice if you could have a “template” list that you could use as a starting point if you know you always get something each time you go shopping.
Sharing sync is terrible
My wife and I have been using this for shared shopping lists. Works pretty well EXCEPT the syncing between our devices is terrible. Almost every trip to the store items don’t get purchased because they don’t show up in the other’s list. It can take hours or days to update. We’ve tried closing the app and reopening, ever restarting phones and there is no reliable solution. Might be fine for 1 user lists with no need to share. Worthless and frustrating for sharing.
Very good shopping app.
Milk for Us works well as a stand-alone app. We paid for the synchronized version, and the synchronization does not work well. I usually have to sign out and then sign back in to force synchronization. It would be nice if the app had synchronize button to initiate synchronization without the need to sign off and back on.
Terrific app!
I’ve used this app for a couple of years and love it. It syncs with my phone, desktop computer and tablet. I can’t go shopping unless I have this app handy.
Never syncs (even though we pay for sync) and no support
I’ve reached out for support and never get an email back. Although we pay for the sync between our two phones, even when my wife and I sit next to each other, it never syncs the list. We have logged out and back in and the lists aren’t updated. Very frustrated their isn’t a manual sync option or a way to get this to sync between the phones. Also frustrating to pay for something that doesn’t work as designed.
A little clunky but works as advertised...
This review is based on the app without any subscription service use -- just downloaded and started using with my Apple Watch. Seems to work fairly well, but the adding list items is a bit too convoluted. For instance, when I tried to add 'charcoal' (for barbecuing) to the list, the app could not find the product. I click the + to add the item, then I'm taken to a screen to pick out an aisle. This step is really not necessary as we all most likely shop at the same stores and pretty much know where the desired items are. Marking that milk, for example, is in the 'Dairy' aisle is a no-brainer and not of any benefit. Back to 'charcoal' -- so, I just want to add this product to my list as quickly as possible. I see 'No Aisle' is already selected for me -- GREAT! So, what do I do here? It's already selected; there's no OK button, but I do see a big + right there at the top of the screen. Intuition tells me to click that -- NOPE, that's to add a NEW aisle name. Apparently I have to tap the already selected 'No Aisle' to actually choose it. Doing this takes me back to the previous screen where I'm entering in a new product. It's a little more obvious here what to do, but it's still not 100% clear that 'Done' is what I want to finally add 'Charcoal' to my grocery list. I think what's needed here, at least for me, is the option to turn off the 'Aisle' feature totally. Milk is always going to be in the dairy case. Toilet paper is always going to be in the paper products aisle. Bath soap is always going to be in the health and beauty section. Maybe add an option to skip or turn off the 'Aisle' feature. I can understand if one of these items is something not regularly purchased or a specialty item (kebob skewers..?) -- marking an item like this with a particular aisle (aisle #s vs. product type aisle would be more helpful) would then be beneficial. But, here's ultimately what I'd like to do with this app: • Quick list: Add items -- boom, boom, boom. Done. Skip the aisle stuff. A list of items is all I need and I want to compile it quickly and efficiently. • Add new items via Apple Watch. I could be on the way to the store and think of something else I need to pick up. I'd like to quickly add it on the fly by speech through my Apple Watch. I don't see that this is available presently. On the positive side, it does do what it says it will do and lists show up on my Apple Watch seamlessly. The app looks nice as well. I think this app is good and headed in the right direction, but throw in options to simplify the process of adding items to a list and some extra item added ability with Apple Watch and then it's a solid five star app.
Subscription Renewal wipes out list!
I would have given this app 5 stars, because it is complete. However, because I use this app so often, I decided to renew my subscription, so that I can have my shopping list backed up. Instead, directly after confirming the payment to renew the "subscription", I back out of the settings and my shopping list was gone. And conveniently your " contact us" button is the only feature that does not function.
Default Aisle Order not working
Update 12.4.1 - Aisle order is not working any more. The aisle layout is correct but as you make your list it does not put items in the default aisle order. Please fix.
Straightforward Easy to Use Grocery List App that works great with my Apple Watch
I have been using this app for a couple of years. Easy to use and I can use frommy Apple Watch also to see what is on my list and cross it off
Used to sync very well, now it's broken.
My wife and I used this for 8-9 months. Same account on each of our phones. The sync feature was awesome. She could add to list while I was out shopping. Not anymore. They won't sync with each other and I paid for the year premium service. Aso, clicking "email milk for us" in the settings tab does nothing so I can't contact them to ask for help. Hopefully they read this review.
Nice app
It's very simple. But it does exactly what I need it to do.
Really handy for an iWatch
I love using this for my iWatch. I make lists and can easily view them while at the store. Really my biggest complaint is that you have to click an isle or else it won’t get added to the list. I use this for more than just the grocery store so it’s annoying when most of the things I put on the list don’t have an isle. It makes adding things to the list take so much longer with this extra unneeded step. I think they should make it an option and not mandatory!
Best grocery shopping app
I use it primarily for making grocery lists because of the way it sorts out the items. You can customize the list to present the items according to your store’s departments. I never miss out on anything on my list. Another great feature for me is how it syncs perfectly with the Apple Watch. Works seamlessly!
Very disappointed
Sync stopped working and my wife just lost her entire list. No idea why and no way to undo.
Not just for Apple watches!
When groceryIQ stopped syncing properly for me, I went on a fruitless search for a new groceries app to share my list with my fiancé. I tried 4 apps, none of them clean or simple like this one. I don't have an Apple Watch, and I get that is a major feature, but happy to share that the list is clean and elegant without it. 5 stars would be if I could pay a one time fee for syncing. The subscription model is a one off in this category. Try it out!
Einzelnutzung gut - sync schlecht
Good but needs a few things
I really wish I could take pictures and attach them to items I add to the lists so that my husband will pick up the correct things when he goes shopping. Barcode scanning would be great too so I can quickly add things to the list when we're nearly out of something.
Excellent Shopping App
My wife and I have been using this app to manage our shopping since 2015. It works great and the syncing feature ensures that lists can be shared and kept up to date. I love that I can add an item to a list from the office and have it appear almost instantly on my wife's phone at the store. The Apple Watch app was a great addition, looking forward to using the new Series 4 complication.
Loved until...
Loved this app and how convenient it was. So I decided to pay to have it sync with other devices. Once I did that it erased all lists defeating the point of the app!
Versatile and Very Useful
The app is very clean and neat with ads to clutter the app. The one thing I would like to see implemented is a list of previous items that could be picked from when creating a new list.
Was working great
I love this app...but as of yesterday I noticed the app won't open on my iwatch...help!! It would be a 5 star rating if it was working properly again.
Disappointing Apple Watch Experience
I was really pleased when this new version came through with an all new rewritten native Apple Watch app. Previously, the Watch didn't sync with the iPhone while in the store shopping and I was sure this would finally solve it. Sadly, this is no better. I really don't understand how a can developer write a Watch app that simply doesn't talk in real time to its associated iPhone. What is the point? What I am looking for is to be able to mark something off the list on my watch and have it immediately sync to my phone, and my wife's, showing that the item is no longer on the list. Otherwise, we come back together having picked up two of everything. The Watch and iPhone do sync, but they do it so slowly as to be completely useless for actual shopping. I tested the speed of changes in either direction and it takes several minutes to sync. For example, I just added some items to my iPhone at 10:06 pm and the Watch didn't show the changes until 10:14. That is much too slow to be useful. It looks like my search for a good shopping list app that supports the Apple Watch is back on. In fairness, though, it syncs quickly between two iPhones. The large delays seem to be with the Apple Watch. So if you don't have an Apple Watch, this might still be a good option for you.
Great little grocery store companion
I searched for a long time for a simple grocery app that met a few requirements: - a way to keep lists in sync between my wife & I. - Apple Watch support, because it’s easier to push a cart with your list on your wrist. Milk for Us fit the bill without breaking the bank. It has a low subscription fee to keep development going, and I’m good with that. And now it has iPad support! That’ll make list building a breeze. I highly recommend this app. Only thing it needs now are Siri shortcuts.
In-App-Käufe
für die Synchronisation. Synchronisieren sollte bei iOS-Geräten zunächst kostenlos (!!) über iCloud funktionieren. Erst danach kommen andere Möglichkeiten zum Zug!
Almost perfect!
Need ability to import lists from reminders or even better from another app, like paprika! Other than that, this is a great app!
Close 2nd to Grocery Gadget
I love that I can select different stores for different items on my list. Also it's great being able to organize aisles in different stores. However there needs to be a master list of items I shop for that I can select from when creating a shopping list. When I'm done shopping everything on my list disappears and I have to input it again the next time I shop, choosing the store and aisle again. This app will remember a few recent items but that's it. Fix this and you can be just as great as Grocery Gadget.
