Great game, especially with gamepad support.
Poor experience
Gamepad not fully supported, only analog stick works as left/right arrows, “cross” button doesn’t work, which is weird for game pretending to be a retro-style
Fun time waster
You could beat this in an afternoon if you tried though it’s mobile so it’ll last you longer probably. Gets fairly repetitive but it can be challenging at times. 3 worlds and obstacles are identical within each world until you move onto the next. Can’t really complain since it’s a dollar but it’s not really that involved unless you go for the achievements. Even the challenge levels are easy 3 stars. Most of the difficulty is really finding all the secrets each level and that’s mostly just searching every nook and cranny since they all involve hidden walls with no sign pointing you in that direction. Just trial and error. Something like angry birds will probably last you longer since level count is super low. Not gonna complain about story or voice acting since the team that made this was probably small, maybe even a solo dev.
Way too much screen shake
I'm surprised this doesn't bother more people. Shaking the screen for what seems like every other hit & action is excessive. I'm particularly sensitive to it, I know, but still...

Childhood classic
Now I’ve been changed completely as a gamer the last couple of years. This one isn’t a new new game that I fell in love with but one that dates back to 2015 when I visited my cousins and uncle for the holidays and staying up in the hotel playing this will always be a special memory. Now of course it’s a throwback to the classic style platformer rpg games on the nes and snes, etc. But I think it shines in the art style to me that is so unforgettable. The gameplay is top notch as well. It also is decently difficult atleast the last time I played it which was a couple years ago but just am getting into the swing of things again with this one. It’s just one of the those games that is a default for me when I have to choose set in stone games that I wouldn’t delete for extra space. As long as I have an iPhone sword of xolan will have a special place

Great game with a few wishes
I love this game but I tend to like games that have a player’s choice variable difficulty setting; this game is really difficult for me and it would be awesome if the developer made an “easy mode.” Until then I paid for a game that I can only complete the first 9 levels of... Oh and a floating directional pad would be great too!

Bought this game years ago and still love it. Nice level design, strong graphics, excellent music, solid controls. Lots of fun to play. Would love to see it ported to other platforms like PC or console!! I’d buy it there, too!!

Im still looking for a game that handles as well as Goblin Sword. This one aint it. The handling controls are subpar in comparison and the game is way too easy. Beat it in 2 days including collecting all extra items. It’s not a bad game but short and easy. The search continues...

Almost perfect!
The good. +Felt like Ghouls 'n Ghost. +lengthy game. +Challenging. +Cool retro graphics. +Unlock abilities. ++Hero's wearing a cape!! The bad. -Controls need some help. -Comments from hero are stupid and they sound like they are coming from different people. There should be none. This game is worth every penny even with the slight gripes. A simple update could fix them I suppose. This game has so much potential! Three areas was not enough variation, even if you mix them up with different levels. Control's have a slight issue. If you move slightly diagonal down and try to jump you will get no response. Thank you developers for this amazing little game! Let's hope for an update and a sequel😊.

Re: frustrating.
I would give your game five stars, because it is brilliant. However I can’t get past the first boss and it is most frustrating. Therefore I have uninstalled the game yet again! I wish there was an option to skip levels or to at least have more lives to defeat the boss. It seems nearly impossible and a boss this difficult early on is most annoying as one can’t progress further. Rant over.
A New Classic
If this had come out during the Nintendo era, it would easily have been one of the most popular games. A really solid, fun platformer. I play it through every year or so—something I can’t say about many games!
Game was fun until bosses
It was fun for exactly 10 levels and then the boss is impossible to beat so I wasted my time. No tricks no weapons nothing I can do to beat it. Thanks for nothing.

FABULOUS game but needs to be updated for iOS10. My movement buttons are half way off the screen making extremely difficult to play well. Would definitely get up five star rating if it was updated for iOS 10!

THE CARDS YOU CAN PURCHASE FOR 1500 COINS EACH ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP AND THEY DO JUST NOT TO THE EXTENT THEY SHOULD AND ARE SUPPOSED TO! Really solid action platformer
Currently, it's my most visited game app. Each level is designed with platforms to jump to, caged villagers to unlock, and a treasure chest of gold. Sometimes they're hidden behind a secret passage. Sometimes they're blocked by dumb enemies. The enemies aren't exactly terrifying. That's okay. They do add a touch of challenge but don't keep the game from being impossible to progress. If you lose all your hearts, you have to start over from the beginning of the level. It doesn't blow my mind but it's so simple and easy to pick up and play a level that it's easy to recommend. It's actually pretty fun too if you're into this type of retro platformer.

Too repetitive...same music gets old not enough power ups I tried to enjoy it and tried to finish it despite I was no longer interested just to delete it off my phone
Good game, stupid bonuses
The "cards" or upgrades you can get are dumb like they help you once they should make upgrades that are good like stronger swords, some enemies can be one shot, and once you get all the cards the money becomes useless; so that was a waste of my time
One of the best games you can buy for $0.99
This had to be one of the best games (if not the best) that you could get for $0.99. The only drawback is that it’s rather short. Do you guys have a fundraiser of some sort? I would donate just to see more levels added to the game, or maybe even a sequel.
Great game....
...but I wish the developers could add a button to switch off the Game Center integration. Every time I start it, I get asked to log into Game Center (a service I won't be using) even though I've said no before. Other games don't have this problem, and for me it ruins this near perfect game.
Good game ruined by jump lock
Seems to common for some pixel platformers like these to have an issue with jump locking. It's when you're trying to jump while moving left or right, but instead jump straight up. I believe Goblin Sword had this issue too. Not as bad as here.

I’m fast approaching my 40’s. I grew up during the golden eras of gaming. Lived, owned, and played though all the “retro” console generations. I adore gaming from that time, and games like this remind me of simpler times when you were home from school on a winter day with all your homework done playing through classic NES adventures. This little gem is a more forgiving version of Ghosts and Goblins. It’s very accessible and the controls are extremely tight. If you are afraid of touch controls for platformers, fear not! Very precise and accurate! The pixel art is done extremely well. All the little monsters are nicely designed and unique. The levels feature the same love and attention to detail. The music is cheery and well done. The overall level design is simple but thought out. I feel like the developer pour his/her heart and soul into this game. I wish iOS App Store was similar to the pre 64 bit upgrade where you could click on an game category and it shows ALL titles under the genre instead of the first 200 or so. Games like this sometimes get lost in the mix. I only noticed this SoX because it was recommended underneath a newer title. I had no idea this game existed. No IAP. One time purchase. No scams or artificial difficulties to hamper a player. Good wholesome retro fun. Thank you!! Buy this now. You won’t regret the purchase!
Awesome
A great little game, but feels too short and could use a little more variety in terms of gameplay elements. Currently only has 3 acts, and would feel better value with 5, say. Hopefully there'll be updates. Overall though, very fun and compelling. The voiceover in the cutscenes is unintentionally hilarious. Recommended
It's no Goblin Sword but...
...it's certainly worth a purchase if you enjoyed that game. Like Goblin Sword this is a traditional action platformer in the classic style. Double jumping, hacking away at monsters and finding secrets behind hidden walls are the order of the day in both games however, Goblin Sword does everything you will find in Xolan much better and has been supported by the developer with fantastic free updates long after launch (Xolan appears to be in the same state as launch as of now, which is fine since there's more than enough for your money already here). The upgrade cards here don't add nearly as much depth as GS's numerous weapons and relics and the level design is weaker in general. Taken as it is without all these GS comparisons Xolan is a fine mobile platformer with nice graphics, ok sound & music and enjoyable gameplay. If you enjoyed GS or are just looking for a decent action platformer to play Xolan is a great choice!

Nice responsive control and very fluid character interaction. The the pixel art and sound have been nicely crafted. Plenty of hidden areas and reasonable enemy design. Would love to see more of these style games on the App Store.
Great game but...
Sword of Xolan is great game - one of the best I played on iPhone. The only issue I have with this game is that the bosses are difficult out of proportion. It takes hours to defeat a boss. The first boss took me a few hours to defeat it. I got extremely bored but I could live with it. I started fighting with the second boss and I already know that I will get bored to death before I killed him. Playing a game should be fun not getting bored. This game would easily get 5 stars with a more reasonable difference between game and bosses. As it is, I almost regret I bought it.
