Great and fun
I love the app. I thought it was for money when I checked the reviews, but it’s actually very good and I just click download and I view and then I could just view it straight from the app very good very fun to read and very fun books should definitely try out.
App no longer works
App no longer works - internal error message keeps popping up. Support doesn’t respond to multiple requests over the past couple of months.
Magazine is good. App is “ok”.
My particular beef is with having to constantly restore purchases. This is not unique to MagPi. Likely it is an App Store issue. However, when I tried to write a review in the app, it was stuck in portrait view on my iPad Pro and I could not see or use the right side of the keyboard. Also after restoring my purchases (I’ve been a subscriber for several years) it was downloading the current issue and asking me to pay for back issues.
where’s the account creation page?
Can’t figure out where to create an account on the website
App has issues
(Original review follows; update after that with workarounds and notes) Not recommended at this time. Tried on IOS 9.02 and 9.1 with IPad Mini 4. Purchased two issues and neither will load. When try to repurchase app says they are already bought and will be reloaded. At that point app freezes. Reported problem twice to vendor with no response. It's a good magazine but the app and supporting vendor are not doing their jobs. Out $7.98 for two issues I cannot download -- money is not the issue but it's a bad policy precedent on the vendor's part. Reporting issue to Apple is my next move. (updated October 30 2015) After the above noted issues with support, I changed paths and reported the issue directly at the app vendor site. This resulted in a reasonably quick reply with an acceptable solution. While the freezing issue still exists, the simple workaround is to do an all purchase reload. The restore purchases button is "hidden" in the "Subscribe" dialog page -- click "Subscribe" and the button is there. Not exactly intuitive or obvious but at least it works. Note that restored issues show as "Free" after restoration. I've upgraded my score to reflect these points but feel the app still needs work.
Amazing
The newest 2 you have to buy, but I mostly read the old ones because I recently subscribed
NEVER WORKS
I download the app and I go to login but before I login it says internal error I click OK and it lets me login or sign in and then it took me to a loading screen that would not stop loading and it kept popping up internal air recommendation do not get app
App somtime crashes
😢
Worked fine, but stopped. No response from MagPi
I love the magazines in print and decided to 'go electronic'. Downloaded the app and bought a magazine. Was enjoying reading it then one day got an error that there are no magazines to display. Have uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted .. etc repeatedly but with no luck. Now I can't see either magazines to buy, or the one I have already bought. Dropped a note to MagPi through the web site's contact us page and have heard nothing. Very frustrating and have now wasted money on a magazine I cannot read. Until it's fixed, don't use it.
Great
Great 10/10 highly recommended am just a beginner and loving this app many thanks
Doesn’t work.
I’d give a zero. I just purchased a year and as soon as I purchased it started blinking out saying internal error over and over. I deleted app, re-added, restored purchases, again, same thing. Can’t login anywhere as the button for that disappears after you purchase a subscription. I emailed support, they got my 36$. Let’s see if there is a fix. I put it in my iPad and then I put out on my iPhone, same business. Both phone and iPad are updated. I’ll be disputing the charge if this doesn’t get resolved as I can’t use the subscription online, since I have no login or password.
Great app but...
Not all of the magazines are free and I don't know why because u can get the pdf of every magazine and then save it to iBooks on THEMAGPI website. But otherwise great app
Works well. Can't read for free even when you can on their site
The fact that I cannot just download the issue for free like I can on their site is a bad move. I understand that they have to make money, and it is for a great cause but I do not want to buy a physical issue of a magazine. I will buy and donate when I can but forcing like this is not a great move. I was looking for a way to organize all the issues I download rather than just have a folder in my dropbox
Preprogram
I need a preprogramed sad card that has imager and it ALL. MY laptop is not cooperating and ,y sad card writer blows… help?, anyone?
Terrible app
This app is trash!
Customer Service A+
Great app. Even greater support team. Responded quickly and resolved my issue.
Horrible usability
The raspberry pi website says this app makes reading the magazine issues easier so I gave it a try. The issues are just a long list of covers and as expected you either buy the issue or subscribe to get access. Preview shows tiny text and does not support zoom. Search is broken - searched for “issue 30” and the results show other random issues. It is also not possible to filter accessible issues either, say if you pay for some or want to read the initial 30 free issues, prepare to scroll until you find it.
Everything you ever want to know about the Raspberry Pi…
Like it says in the title, if you want to know the in’s and out’s of this little amazing computer — from the people who actually dabble in it — it doesn’t hurt to take a look at this app and all the downloadable e-magazines they have.
Do not subscribe via Apple
Not easy to login in lose my subscription all the time. Cant login
Fantastic!
Great app, easy to use and can search all the back issues. Wish all magazine apps were this good.
Money Grab
I paid for a subscription but old issues don’t stay downloaded and I am asked to pay for them over just to read. Emails to support go unanswered. Don’t waste your money. Update after a month... still no response from support, another email to them sent.
It’s great at what it does
I’ve experienced very little issues with this app. When I subscribed, I was able to access my magazines without any issue. However, for those people that would like free versions of the magazines, all you need to do his download the PDF from Magpi’s website in safari and then under the shared tab send the document to iBooks. You’ll have the same experience as the app.
Bad support
Lost access to editions I had already paid for. Emailed support and after a week still no response. Cancelled my subscription and will just download the free version from now on. If you’re going to take money for something that is normally free you need to provide a measurable advantage.
Excellent!
What an amazing app.
Don’t buy this 🙁
I commend the raspberry pi foundation’s commitment to free education by making the PDF issues available for free on the raspberry pi web site, but the PDF download button is disabled in the mobile app. Why discriminate against mobile app users vs. laptop users? 🙁
Great magazine, found a bug and needs 2 features
Rotation of start screen not working New feature requests: iPad splitscreen support iPad pro resolution Thanks !
Don’t buy if using iPhone!
If you plan to read MagPi on an iPhone, DO NOT buy the subscription. The digital subscription is really only usable on a big screen. Even then I does not take advantage of the screen orientation. I sent the developer a question asking if this was usable on iPhone - specifically if the content formatted for the screen. I never received a reply. I purchased a single issue to test. It is just a digital representation of the magazine. I want to support the Raspberry Pi foundation but the digital subscription is not a usable option.
