Luminair pro
My first time working with luminair its the best.even for a beginner.
Tech support is not responding.
I’ve been using Luminair since 2020 and upgraded to v4 to take advantage of color mixing. I’ve documented 2 bugs, one in which the output does not track the UI, and a second where the app hangs for 2-4 minutes at a time. I’ve provide my show files, and videos demonstrating the problems and gotten no bug fixes or work arounds. As long as they occur at home when I’m programming it’s an inconvenience. But when I’m setting up for a live show, or running one and the app hangs or freezes, it’s an embarrassment. Today my band played for two minutes in total darkness while I frantically got Luminair to work again. Tech Support is not responding anymore, so why are they taking my monthly subscription payment?
Still Serviceable
After 10+ years, I’m still rocking the Apple Airport and ENTTEC ODE combo with the latest incarnation of Luminair, and it continues to be perfectly serviceable for the location broadcast television presentation studios that I light across Europe and beyond. I’ll run a lighting package of around twenty fixtures plus set LED and Luminair works just fine. Definitely more refined apps have come along, subsequently (Blackout), but Luminair is still swinging
Freezing Lights
The Luminar app is nice and interfaces with Propresenter, but too many times the app freezes and have to restart the app on the computer to get the lights to respond.

Hey, it’s Great!
Ok so what doesnt have a bug or two especially a new program. Even ms and apple have problems with new os or even updates that crash systems, it happens. BUT just try to get help or any support from them when u find an issue. Since v3 of luminair I bought and now subscribe to the best supported lighting program out - imho. I was extremely new with lighting and made plenty of mistakes totally my fault but the support guys ALWAYS responded quickly and resolved every issue i’ve had. Good luck finding a team as good as these guys anywhere. Now that i can load this on my macbook pro and use dmx with usb I feel the program has truly continued to expand to customers wants and needs. I am a permanent Fan and customer. Have tried many lighting programs and always come back here. So will be staying. Thanks guys for creating and maintaining an excellent platform for lighting control.
In app purchase doesn’t work on mac
Tried to use this app for controlling dmx device, downloaded only to find out it’s not working on mac.

I own Luminair 3 and find it a good buy imperfect program. Would like to try version 4 but the monthly subscription is too much for my usage level.
Weak yet handy…
Worthy of a solid meh. Gets job done with non intuitive interface built by someone who doesn’t do live show busking. Perhaps fine for architectural use or simple triggered haunted houses and the like, but who wants to pay yet another subscription for unchanging simple software.
Good app LACKS NEW PROFILES
I have been using Luminair for years mostly for interviews and smaller commercial jobs. But Recently, they have been seriously slacking with releasing new profiles for the most up-to-date and in demand lights. Entire aputure storm series is MIA. A good chunk of nanlux and even creamsource is nowhere to be found in this app. The create a profile feature is pretty nice, but even when I’m copying one to one from manufactures DMX charts, the profiles fall short, and sometimes fall apart . Finally bit the bullet and bought Blackout today and immediately found every profile I’ve ever needed in my entire life. This app helped me light for years, but you will get to a point where it’s not good enough for you especially on set Won’t be returning. -IATSE488 gaffer/electrician
Works good
The app works good on macbook and iphone and feels polished. The icloud integration is great and everything is quick. The user guide is well written, and their tech support is responsive. Price is steep, but controlling DMX scenes from my phone is pure magic
Lights flashing at fade
Our light flash at every fade until they are into next cue. I reached out for help 2 weeks ago and nothing,
Positive First Impressions
So far so good. Easily connected to Aladdin and DMG fixtures via Moonlite. The All In is a legacy profile, and the bicolor values are 1-100% (knowing exactly where you are in the 2900K to 6000K range would be preferable to dial in the precise desired color temp). Will give Hive fixtures a go next. A myriad of searchable gels at your fingertips is a big plus. The controls are super responsive, with minimal lag. Quickly controlling multiple fixtures from various vendors is what I was after, and Luminair seems to deliver. Prefer this app vs Blackout for intuitive interface and ease of use.
Not Ready for Prime Time
I’ve had Luminair on my iPad for at least 5 years now. It’s come a long way in that time, but there are still some fundamental problems with it that, for me, make it unusable. I already bring one laptop to my gigs to run my VSTs on an was looking to avoid bringing a second to run lights since I have my iPad on the gigs as well, running TouchOSC to control my VSTs. But Luminair is not up to the challenge, forcing me back to bringing two MacBooks if I want to run keys and lights. The biggest issue is with RTP MIDI. I cannot make it work with Luminair. If I have a single subnet with Luminair, my DMX controllers and my RTP MIDI setup, Luminair disables network access entirely or even crashes sometimes. This is on an M1 iPad running the latest version of iOS and Luminair. I also have a license for LightKrey on a MacBook. Lightkey works without issue with sACN/ArtNet and RTP MIDI. Luminair is just not stable with RTP MIDI. My light show requires me to have certain sequences, scenes triggered via MIDI and since Luminair disconnects network or outright refuses to allow me to assign RTP MIDI ports it effectively renders it useless for my needs. Additionally, the fixture profiles for certain fixture don’t seem to work or at least be as intuitively easy to use as the same fixture profiles in LightKey. Until this is resolved, I am back on LightKey and I have discontinued my Luminair Pro monthly renewal fee. If they ever fix these, I’ll consider revisiting the product, but in the meantime I cannot recommend or use this product.
Stürzt nach Update auf Luminair4 oft ab
Ich war immer sehr zufrieden mit Luminair, bin zwar absolut kein Fan des neuen Abo Systems aber ein Paar coole Festures sind dabei. Nach dem Update stürzt Luminair4 jedoch jedes Mal ab sobald ich in den „neuen“ Gruppen einen Parameter verändere. Das macht dieses Feature für mich unbrauchbar, da dadurch die Performance unbrauchbar wird. Ich bitte um Fehlerbehebung bzw. Verbesserung der Performance

I feel ripped off
I bought this app years ago before it was subscription. It worked great then, but now I can no longer use it unless I pay again, eternally. I hope this app goes the way of FilmicPro. Karma for the greed.
Best lighting app on IPad
Ok well the longer review that I had typed up got deleted, so may update this at some point but in short I recommend this application for lighting design in smaller venues or video production and studios. It’s reliable and pretty feature packed. I have used in Church venues, smaller community Theater’s both permanent spaces and rented. And have recommended this to folks in the video world to use in studios and they have really liked its reliability and features.. You are not getting the feature set of a full console her, so if you need advanced effects you will have to shell out the extra money. My community theater uses just over 300 DMX channels, and even though this says it can handle up to 4 universes. I’m not sure let want it for a job that big, but to each their own.. In my community theater I have used it for 7+ years and it has been very reliable, outside of a few bugs more recently that the tech team was very prompt at finding my problem and quickly rolling out a patch.. Over all really happy with this program and will definitely continue using it going forward.
Landscape
When turning phone to landscape, it either does not go all or the screen jumbles up a freezes. Fix?
Profile numbers
Version 4 is a big step forward in many ways, I don’t like the subscribtion thing, but there are pros and cons on both sides. But please add the profile numbers for all the fixtures. I need my Asteras in mode 124 and I am not able to find it in luminAir. I beg you, change this ASAP.
Nothing quite like it.
Make the investment in your router when you get this app, and don’t cheap out. With a great router and a solid DMX converter, this system is as reliable as it gets. Truly love the workflow after I got used to it, and hope this software sticks around for years. Can’t wait to put in on my Mac with the new macOS app too. Thanks for making a killer program y’all.
Waste of time
When I opened the app a “join us” button appears, but tapping on this shows an error “no internet”. I have verified the internet is connected and working.
Flashtaste
Was ich vermisse ist eine simple Flashtaste bei den Fadern. Hat man eine Stimmung bzw. eine Sequenz und will 2-3 Lampen unabhängig flashen. Im nächsten Update ?. Viele Grüße
My rage knows no limit
Today I spent 5 hours editing new devices/scenes for the new lighting hardware. Five hours of tedious repetitive hand patching of scenes later (due to an apparent lack of “apply this to all” kind of functionality), it was done and perfect. One reboot later, and Luminair erased everything. I need to step away now or it’s going to get ugly.
Einfache, praktische Features fehlen
Würde gerne 5 Sterne vergeben mir fehlen aber einige praktische Features. Es ist schade das man die Fader nicht sowohl mit DMX Werten als auch mit %-Werten belegen kann. Mir fehlt auch eine Organisationsstruktur. Wenn z.B. 5 Carpetlights + 4 Skypanels + 3 Freestyle und eine Hand voll Titan Tubes anzusteuern sind dann wird das wahnsinnig unübersichtlich auf‘m Tablet. Es wäre außerdem sinnvoll die Breite der Fader frei wählen zu können. Ansonsten eine Klasse App grade auch in Verbindung mit dem Moonlite.

Can’t get past initial screen without paying
Whoever though that it was a good idea to get new customers by making them pay ten bucks before they can even open it. I can’t waste my money on an app that I don’t even know will work with my wireless receivers. So stupid.
The monthly subscription is a bit much
The monthly subscription is a bit rough considering the initial outlay wasnt cheap I cant recall how much it was because it was ages ago but it wasnt cheap I use it in my local church as our other programme became unstable and had to start messing around with it and so far its been good but yeah without the monthly fee would be better I feel.
Constant Random Crashes - SHOWKILLER
Took a leap based off a recommendation from a friend. Does what we need but crashes CONSTANTLY and for no discernible reason, frequently during shows which is an absolute headache cause we have no idea what it’ll take when we reopen it. Really disappointing.
Shame there’s no free demo
This app in my opinion isn’t worth the money, it’s not bad but does little more than any of the free DMX apps out there, and there’s little or no exact info available to make you decide if this app is going to suite the users exact requirements, I wouldn’t have purchased it if I’d have tried a demo so there goes £99 down the drain.

I paid for this a few years back. It was the most expensive app I've paid for by far. Now I have to subscribe for it to work? So we pay for it personally since our company is against subs, and then it doesn't even work with our Enttec open DMX USB for the most basic of lighting? Lame.
Version 4 Fixture Profiles
Please update all fixture profiles to have the Mode or Protocol number listed, and list it first. For example in the Astera Profiles there is no way to find Mode 90 or any other Mode number. It’s just listed as the channel/fader control IE: CCT DIM GM HS DIM, this makes it really difficult to decipher what mode each profile is. Listing the Mode/Protocol number first will help exponentially. Thank you.
Doesn't support Entec OPEN DMX USB
Looks great, but doesn't support the most popular adapter on Amazon right now. Canceled our trial within a few minutes after discovering this.
Disgraceful
When you pay $100 for a premium App, you expect the developer to include you in basic updates to the software. 1 month later the company cuts off its entire paid user base and requires a subscription to use any of the new (basic) features. It’s not that functionality has been removed, but considering the price of this app, there was an expectation that it would improve over time. It would be appropriate to grandfather-in your loyal users who predated this update since they’re mostly quality of life improvements rather than radical changes. As a long established entertainment provider in LA we have influenced a number of professionals to try your app and we are very disappointed that you have gone this route without including your paid customers.

Tablets should be the future for lighting design. Luminair essentially 'does what it says on the tin' but doesn't take full advantage of being on a portable touchscreen device. Lighting design is a spatial rather than a numeric discipline, so turning on 'that light there at about three quarters' is preferable to setting channel 37 to 192. Luminair needs the ability to choose and set lights from a rig plan, magic sheet or whatever you wish to call it, rather than having to juggle with a paper plan to find a channel number then side scroll through pages of faders to find the right one. Could also borrow timeline display ideas from movie editing apps for sequence building. Could be a very slick app. —-Update after much more use in anger: I would strongly recommend improvements in fixture selection as ones rig grows. Swiping one’s way through getting on for 100 faders to ride the one you want in a live or last minute programming situation is far from ideal.
Not easy to program
If you add, delete, or change fixtures in your rig, this app is a pain to use. All new fixtures are added with all channels enabled and automatically added to every scene that previously existed. That means every existing (basic) scene has to be updated for every fixture you add. The app has no way to import or merge program data; so if you want the same fixtures and fixture-specific scenes (or palettes) for different colors, beam shapes/gobos, position/movement, and intensity (dimming, strobe, pulse) in more than one program, you have to create them all separately in every program for every fixture (over and over). I have asked for features that would fix this issue, and have waited for years, but they just won’t do it. This app looks slick, but unless you have a small set of fixtures that never changes, I would not recommend it. If you want different programs for different locations or events (with a different mix of lights), look somewhere else.

Took a leap of faith and purchased this app back in 2016 for close to $100. It was the most I paid for an iOS app at that time. Since then the app was really good to me. Programming and running shows from my iPad and even phone at times worked flawlessly for years for video shoots, formal events, musical concerts, and a few theatrical shows. However, when I was ready to upgrade, I really couldn’t believe the company would drop all of us prior loyal customers like that and force us to enter a subscription without a discount or anything. I will not upgrade and will find a replacement mostly because of the principle of the situation. I will miss you though. Solid app that seemed to handle everything I threw at it. It’s been fun. Truly sad to see you go :( UPDATE: Thank you for responding and explaining. As previously mentioned I found this app to be an extremely solid app that surprisingly handled multiple fixtures and scenes flawlessly over the last few years. I would have hated to move to another workflow and now look forward to many more years using this app.

Manual
Manual, manual, manual! The manual is terrible - very general instructions, missing basic and complex information. If you see an app as an enigma code to be cracked, this is for you. If not, shop around. A shame because the functionality is decent, but it’s a hard to know if issues I am coming up against are quirks not covered in the manual. Given this is now a subscription model that’s inexcusable.
Update for use with iPad Pro3 2018,2020
I’m still waiting. Been with app from the beginning v3 awesome, v4 at best bites, and you have my $200. I have ask for help about the newer ipad pros not working and they still don’t. My 2017 is the last ipad that works flawlessly can not get my 2nd or 3rd or 4th universe to be recognized though, Very Very unhappy with this nightmare you have created.
So much for my $100 purchase
I’ve had this app for a long time and paid $100 for it when it came out. I used to use it all the time and haven’t in a while. So today I open it up and it appears it’s now Subscription-based, so for another $100 per year I can use this app? Really? Sure, I can access my old stuff BUT I can’t create anything new AND save it as apparently saving is a premium function so what’s the point of the free part? What a waste. This new model of software developers doing only subscription-based software and not giving users the ability to buy the software is becoming tedious. Sure, development costs money. But $100 per year for a phone app is ridiculous especially after spending a ridiculous $100 for the app to start with.
Can’t get dmx lights to work
So i was forced to upgrade to v4 , i subscribed but the app doesn’t seem to work with my system. It recognizes the arcnet interface ,ode factory ,but faders have no effects , other apps work fine but don’t give me the flexibility this app does. System for testing is an 8 ch led rgbw 8 dmx faders 16bit ( tried 8bit) master fader up blackout off, simple setup just doesn’t work Very dissatisfied 3 worked fine and not happy about subscription as i’ve paid a lot already
