NEST is the best most faultless app ever , sadly they no longer selling in U.K. and had to move to HIVE, it has disconnected of its actors twice and thermostat disconnects itself randomly leading to hours of wasted time, need an app that will stay connected , will work effortlessly even after non use and is easy to set up and work and hive is not it

Has been a faithful system for some 17 years on my household
Patchy
We have strong WiFi but very patchy Hive connectivity so as the weather gets colder and we get the ‘no signal’ response how do we turn on the heat?
Basic app and system
Perhaps an isolated experience but find the system often loses connection and reestablishing is basically switch off and on again, pair again, or take batteries out which nowadays seems archaic. Handy in some respects when works but a faff if loses connection (for no apparent reason).

Hey Chris, thanks for the reply to my review. I tried the reduce motion trick, but that didn’t help. What fixed it for me was getting out of boost mode. For some reason, scheduling is not available when you’re boosting. Kind regards, Matt

Timer
When will the team behind Hive finally give us the full 60 minutes for timers instead of 15 minute increments. It’s been like this for years and is the most annoying thing about it. Come on people get with it
Perfect back up and running
British Gas took me thru a reprogramming routine and the app is fully functioning again . First problem since bought hive many yrs ago . Hope it stays ok now .
If only it would work….
The functionality of this app is good, when working, but it continually loses internet connection so simply fails to operate. In summer this is merely irritating but in winter it can mean that the temperature safety floor (7 degrees in house) is ignored and your house, system, pets can all freeze (to death?)! This outage happens regularly, without warning and when no other connected products are having problems. I wish I’d spent the extra and bought a Nest..…
Retired guy lives alone
System works as it should 100% of the time , I have 2 zones plus hot water all running off kero outdoor boiler , it was expensive to fit but worth it as dosent have app charges , the only thing that is missing from it is a hot water cylinder immersion control system , ideally one that lets you know the cylinder temp , the amount of available hot water and the ability to switch it on both remotely and manually , this seems perfectly aligned with hives overall structure ( more so than motion detectors or car chargers ) so I have no idea why it’s not already there , otherwise it’s a good system .

Updated App is a step backwards - having to log in every time is a pain and not required

Bug where after clicking boost for a set time the heating stays on
Okay app overall but sometimes when you put the water or heating on for a boost for a set time (30/45mins) it just stays on afterwards. Needs to be fixed as this uses a lot of energy unnecessarily

Batteries
I love my hive. I live on my own I have it since January 2018 and find it very handy when I am out. My problem with it is having to replace batteries in one thermostat every month. These batteries are not cheap and I have to keep them in stock!!!
Dead easy

Never works.
Constantly looses signal and end up with no heating. Had to buy boosters and still it happens. The help team are good but the system is flawed The hub should be 1.5 m off the ground it comes with 1m Cable. The hub should be 7-8m Away from the receiver whilst plugged into your router. Maybe ok If you live in a bed sit.
November Uodate
Recent update seems to have locked the heating history graphs to the phones time setting, which is a pain when I am operating my UK holiday let heating from Australia. It has an 8 hour blank Section after updating. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong. The actions could benefit from a duration feature where you can select an action to happen after a certain time, such as turn heating off after front door has been open for 30 minutes.
Unreliable
Have this Hive system installed for months now. Found it to be fairly unreliable. Signal comes and goes intermittently. Tuna for weeks fine then stops working. Then signal returns for now reason. Very frustrating
Decent but buggy
A decent app, provides good control over heating. But every update comes with unnecessary changes and introducing new bugs. I’d rather they focus on ensuring the basics work well consistently.
Remote access
The app is really easy to use and brilliant for setting up away from home. However, I’ve had a nightmare a few times with syncing it to the hub in the airing cupboard. Don’t let that put you off.

iOS 18 widget gone
Love the app - loved the widget but with ios18 no longer available - Any chance of fixing it for use again 😅
New updates make the app worse
Previously I was able to change the charge settings on the car charger while the car was plugged in. Now it does not let me change the setting unless I unplug the car first, which is a hassle. Not moving towards being more convenient instead going backwards with new updates
Not so great
It’s useability is good…very simple, but it constantly loses connection with the internet. At first I thought it was my internet but I have since realized it’s not. So I have turned the heating off via the Hive app, and the little React button has reacted, but actually got home later and the heating had been on all day. Same thing happened at night. You have to keep checking the app. Save yourself the hassle and just turn off manually.
iPhone update killed hive
Recent update has killed app on iPhone but still works on iPad. Help chat denies my existence. Unimpressed. Been using hive app for the last decade. Ho hum. UPDATE: I tried rebooting the hive box, to no avail. My electricity supply tripped because one of my appliances was faulty. When everything reset, the boiler was reset manually, the router rebooted and the thermostat came online, lo and behold the hive came back online. Obviously the fault was mine, so apologies to the developers.

This app never allows me to look at or o deed change anything

So far I’ve enjoyed the use of the HIVE. I like the convenience of being able to turn lights on and off, as well as adjusting my thermostats (up and down stairs) without being at home. Downside is sometimes I have to adjust the AC twice before it actually accepts the change. Or every now and then all of my lights will start turning on as if they are on a schedule daily.
Clunky v. 14.01.1(4)
Never the slickest app to use, but this latest version is so clunky. Heating history unreliable & sketchy at best and new page designs & fonts look like they were done by preschool kids. Edit 30/03/26: it just gets better. Installed IOS update 15.01.0(13) that now removes access to Week And Year heating history. Only available with Hive+ which is NOT available in Ireland….still! Avoid this app. Edit 03/04/26: error or not the ability to see week and year history was also evident in the Android app versions prior to 15.01.1 I’d pay for Hive+ if the long promised availability in Ireland was delivered particularly given Irish energy providers are listed in the tariff section of the app for some time. Without Hive+ the app & h/w is extremely limited.

Well not long since I got a new boiler installed by British Gas they done an amazing job so I got the hive switch to control heating instead of phone great bit kit so easy to use I would definitely recommend it

Had on my phone was working very well but suddenly its stop and not showing my the app on my phone screen which I hate it because was handy to put it on from outside , but today another thing happen not working at all how to fix it now House is cold .

Even with your latest update 21/3, the app doesn’t function perfectly under 13.4 lock screen. You must unlock before issuing a quick action request via Siri.

Unreliable
The boost feature appears to be faulty. Often when activating a fixed time heating boost, the app switches to indefinite time limit heating to a specified temperature, making it difficult to control heating bills
Silly issues easily modified through software
Hive switches time for no reason with no user end opportunity to modify time. Interface in software is non intuitive with heat pump settings not explained. Customer service for the most part is responsive. Hive needs to rewrite the heat pump section of the software/manual and give the user more options like changing the time and date, login information. Personal information is required which seems intrusive.
