Description
Your lens tells you the focal length and the aperture. It can't tell you how far away your subject is — and that's the number depth of field actually turns on.
DoF Studio measures it. Point your phone at your subject, tap once, and the in-focus zone appears drawn over the live camera view.
MEASURE, DON'T PACE IT OUT
On iPhone Pro, the LiDAR scanner reads the distance directly — it works on a plain wall, in the dark, with no texture to lock onto. On other devices the camera tracks surfaces and detail in the scene to estimate it.
No AR on your device? Type the distance in. Every other part of the app works exactly the same. You are never stuck.
SEE THE ZONE, NOT TWO NUMBERS
Near and far limits are drawn on a distance scale with your subject marked on it, so you can see at a glance how much room you have in front and behind — and which side is tighter.
Focus at or beyond the hyperfocal distance and the app says "sharp to infinity", because that is what it means. It won't print a meaningless nine-kilometre far limit.

The hyperfocal distance is always on screen. Tap it to focus there — the fastest way to set up a landscape shot.
YOUR KIT, NOT A GENERIC PICKER
Save the bodies and lenses you actually shoot with, by name. Pick "A7 IV" and your 50mm instead of hunting through a list of sensor formats every time you open the app.
Built-in formats: full frame, APS-C (Nikon/Sony 1.5x and Canon 1.6x), Micro Four Thirds, Super 35, 1", medium format and iPhone. Custom sensor sizes are supported too, using the standard diagonal ÷ 1500 rule.
READ A SHOT YOU ALREADY TOOK
Pick a photo from your library and DoF Studio reads the focal length, aperture and sensor size out of it, then shows you the depth of field you were working with. Useful for reviewing a shoot, and for learning what a given setup actually gives you.
MADE FOR STANDING OUTSIDE
You're holding a camera in the other hand, in bright sun or near darkness. So: large targets, high contrast, a proper dark mode, and results that stay readable at arm's length. Nothing needs two hands.
It reopens on the setup you left it on. No re-entering the same lens twice in one shoot.
Metric and imperial, following your device by default. Working to cine lens barrels? Switch to feet and inches and read 11′ 3″ instead of 11.2 ft.

THE MATHS
Standard depth-of-field formulae throughout, with the circle of confusion taken as the sensor diagonal divided by 1500 — the figure is shown on screen, because that is the number two calculators most often quietly disagree on.
