HOW ISLAMIC PRAYER TIMES ARE DETERMINED

Islamic prayer times are calculated using the position of the sun relative to your location.

Fajr

Fajr begins at true dawn, when the first horizontal light becomes visible on the eastern horizon. Fajr ends at sunrise.

Dhuhr

Dhuhr begins after the sun passes its highest point in the sky and starts moving westward. Its ending time depends on the beginning of Asr.

Asr

According to the majority of Islamic scholars, Asr begins when an object’s shadow becomes equal to its length, excluding the shadow present at noon.

The Hanafi calculation begins Asr when an object’s shadow becomes twice its length.

Maghrib

Maghrib begins immediately after the sun has completely set below the western horizon.

Isha

Isha begins after the red twilight disappears from the western horizon. Its preferred time lasts until the middle of the night, while its permissible time continues until true dawn.
