Description

LockBar is an educational reference for locksmith apprentices, security researchers, and the recreational lockpicking (Locksport) community. Every lock is a fully interactive 3D cutaway you can rotate, section, take apart, and operate — a digital service manual for understanding how mechanical locks actually work.

No videos, no diagrams to squint at. Real-time 3D mechanisms you can take apart with your hands.

A WORKSHOP, NOT A TOY LockBar is built like a machinist's reference book meets an engineering blueprint. Precise, technical, and clear enough for a beginner — confident enough that a working locksmith will respect it.

THE WORKBENCH • Rotate any lock in 3D and inspect it from every angle • Section view — peel away the case to reveal the interior, with cut surfaces marked like a real engineering drawing • Exploded view — separate every component to understand assembly order • Transparency — fade the shell to see the mechanism in context • Precision scrubber — step through the operation frame by frame • Engineering camera presets and an orthographic mode for true technical views • Live measurement readouts in monospace — key depth, shear-line state, pin status

LEARN BY DOING • "Show me how it works" — a guided walkthrough of normal operation for every lock • Picking simulation — apply tension and set pins one at a time, in binding order, exactly as the mechanism behaves. Genuinely instructional, never gamified • Turn a combination dial with a circular gesture and watch the wheel pack line up

THE CATALOG Organized the way a locksmith thinks — by mechanism family, not alphabetically: • Pin tumbler — standard, multi-pin, and security-pin variants (spool, serrated, mushroom) • Rotating disc detainer with sidebar • Lever tumbler • Wafer • Tubular (radial pin) • Combination dial and wheel pack • Deadbolts, mortise bodies, and padlocks Search and filter by family and difficulty.

ANATOMY Component deep-dives studied in isolation — the pin stack, the shear line, security pins, the wheel pack, the disc-and-sidebar — with live, adjustable 3D models.

FIELD NOTES Bookmark locks, add your own annotations, and keep a personal index of the mechanisms you've mastered. Stored privately on your device.

REFERENCE A plain-language glossary, an explanation of how security standards rate finished products, and a brief history of locks from ancient pin tumblers to modern electromechanical bolt work.
