Description

Screen Off Recorder is a native iOS camera app for long recording sessions—especially when your iPhone is on a mount for cycling, running, motorcycling, or desk tripod use. Apple Watch remote control is supported. Version 1.5.0 lets you burn a dynamic timestamp onto videos already in Photos with improved Settings and wake panel UI.

THE CORE IDEA

While recording, turn on “Screen Off” mode: the app shows a near-black full-screen overlay and lowers brightness so the display uses less power and you avoid accidental touches. Recording continues as long as the app stays in the foreground. Tap the black screen to wake controls, then Stop & Save to the Photos library—or discard the current clip.

DYNAMIC TIMESTAMP (NEW IN 1.5.0)

Pick a video from Photos and burn a clock that advances with capture time

Six positions with live preview; multiple styles (classic, outline, yellow, cyan, red, and more)

Set a default style in Settings; export saves a new video and keeps the original

HDR / Dolby Vision sources export as SDR in this version

LONG TAKES, LESS WORRY

Darker Screen Off overlay; the recording indicator remains clearly visible

Auto Save & Continue (off by default): at 5/10/15/30/60-minute intervals, save the current clip to Photos and immediately start the next; you’ll get multiple clips with a brief gap between segments

Stop & Save ends the session after saving the current clip; Discard drops only the unsaved current segment

APPLE WATCH REMOTE

Control your iPhone from Apple Watch: start/stop and save, preview the shot, enter Screen Off, and adjust quality, frame rate, lens, stabilization, auto-save, and more

Simple four-tile home screen; live preview mirrors your iPhone framing (unavailable while recording)

Instant control when the iPhone app is in the foreground; Apple Watch prompts you to open the iPhone app otherwise

Watch app installs with the iPhone app; multilingual Watch interface

STANDALONE CAMERA · ADVANCED STABILIZATION

Standalone camera control: native Swift + AVFoundation drives the system camera directly—preview, recording, lens switching, zoom, tap-to-focus, and screen-off run in the native layer (not a WebView shell).

Advanced motion stabilization: optional in Settings; prefers Extended Cinematic and Enhanced+ modes when your device supports them. Best at 1080p + Ultra Wide; falls back to 1080p if strong stabilization isn’t available at 4K.

HOW IT WORKS

Start / stop recording with a clear, large control

Selectable frame rates based on device, lens, quality, and stabilization

Screen Off manually, or auto Screen Off ~3 seconds after you start (optional)

Tap the blackout once to show duration and actions; tap Screen Off Again to re-enter blackout

Front and rear cameras (switch when not recording)

Rear lenses: Ultra Wide / Wide / Telephoto where supported

Zoom with slider or pinch; tap the preview to focus

Video quality: 1080p or 4K (device-dependent)

Portrait and landscape: preview and recording orientation follow how you hold the phone

Interface in 32 languages (follows system language)

PRIVACY & DATA

No account required

No cloud upload from the app—videos are saved to your on-device Photos library

You manage, share, or delete files in Photos and iCloud Photos like any other video

IMPORTANT NOTES

“Screen Off” is an in-app blackout—not recording after the side-button hardware lock. Keep the app in the foreground.

Timestamping is on-device post-processing, not a live burn-in while recording; keep the app open during export.

Auto-save creates multiple clips with a brief gap between segments—not one seamless file.

Watch preview and instant remote control require the iPhone app in the foreground; background recording is handled on iPhone.

iOS may show green/orange privacy indicators while camera or microphone is active—that is normal.

Use responsibly: record only where you have permission and follow local laws.

Screen Off Recorder—dim the display.
