New Revert
New to Islam but I’m so excited to have found this app. I’m working on my Arabic and my confidence to speak it with English being my first language.
Do NOT use this app!!!!
As someone who has been learning Arabic now for a decent amount of time now. I enjoy trying out every Arabic app I can find as I like using apps for mindless studying after my real studying is over. This app is way too overpriced for something that is so junk. I will say all of the words perfectly into my microphone it takes an hour for the AI to tell me if I got it wrong or right. Even when I know for sure I got the word correct it constantly battles with me saying it’s wrong. Do not use this app!
Good update, still needs improvement
The new update is great. The animations are cute and it’s very engaging. However, it needs some improvement. I think due to the animations there’s a lot of lagging. And sometimes the audios don’t work looking forward to even smoother usage of this great app!!!

I really don’t like that the AI character pronounces the Lebanese words incorrectly. I understand Lebanese and need practice speaking it and the way the AI voice says it is completely wrong. Hard to practice when the voice isn’t even pronouncing the words correctly. Please use an actual Arabic speaker for the voice.

Ugh for now
This has the potential to be a really great app, but then need to work out the glitches. This feels like a Beta, not a real launch. Im happy to keep paying to support, but the app regularly doesn’t register what I’ve said, it regularly interrupts itself and glitches to the next possible word to learn, and the prompts from the camel regularly don’t align with the example and speaking request from the Syrian voice.
As a revert
Assalamu Alaykum, my intention is good to write this in this review, but unfortunately, I began today with the goal of beginning my journey to learn Arabic a bit more. I’ve been a Revert for a few years and I speak I can recite a number of Suraj and I have been doing so for a long time. I started using the app today impossible to progress just from the first lesson every time I say a word it takes forever to confirm the accuracy of what I’ve said and sometimes it just keeps on stalling. It took me 30 minutes, and I still didn’t even finish the first lesson of 16 words which is just not ideal for somebody who’s trying to fit in Arabic learning in their day-to-day. The idea of five minutes makes it almost impossible. There’s just too many lags and I feel like sometimes when I’m reciting the words it’s picking up incorrectly. These are words that I’ve also known and I’m able to recite, but there’s just seems to be some mistakes with the AI recognition. I can’t be sure so I feel a little disappointed, but Inshallah, you guys can work on this and make things better.
Thoughts during free trial
I am using the Egyptian Arabic mode. While I really like the concept of this app, I can’t justify paying for it at this point. Two concerns: the camel avatar does not always pronounce the words the same way as the computer voice does during the practice sessions. For example “nos nos” is pronounced by the camel like it is written with no trailing sound after nos. However, the computer automated voice sounds like “no-sa nos”. There is an extra sound after the first Nos. If I speak it with that extra sound, it is not counted as correct. Related, there are other words that I pronounce, at least to my ears, the same as the computer voice, yet I can never get it to accept it as the correct pronunciation. The app does not help me correct my pronunciation; I just have to skip it. These two problems alone prevent me from subscribing to the app.

Falsely Promised To Warn Before Charging
SCAM. Don’t give them your card info. You can’t use the app for free, they make you sign up for the trial. Then they trick you by assuring you’ll get a notice before the trial ends, lulling you into a false sense of security. They don’t actually send you this notification. I’ve just been charged $100 for an app not worth a quarter of that, after them assuring me they would let me know before this charge went through, which was a lie. There is no customer service available, and Apple just sees it as a free trial that’s expired so it’s not eligible for a refund thru them. WATCH OUT! DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Gut: ABER
Die App ist gut zum lernen. Leider ist es nur zur Zeit noch so, dass oft die audioclips nicht ganz funktionieren. Bzw. Manchmal kann man einfach nichts einsprechen. Da scheint aber mittlerweile an den meisten Stellen behoben zu sein. Was jedoch noch eine schöne Erweiterung wäre, wäre eine Liste mit den gespeicherten Wörtern/vokabeln. So muss man immer alle Wörter als Quiz einsehen, während man manchmal eben nur kurz nachsehen will, wie ein Wort geschrieben wurde. Dabei vergeht die Lust ein wenig, wenn man erst alle anderen gespeicherten Vokabeln durchgehen soll. Vielleicht lässt sich das noch hinzufügen. Ansonsten top.

The app was extremely glitchy, although I badly wanted it to work, it seems so great….
Almost Great
The foundations of a really great app are here and it has potential to be exceptional with a few fixes that really ruin the experience. The voice recognition is terrible with no room for error (which in a learning app is not ideal) and with no skip button on the videos you have to quit and skip the full lesson if you’re not pronouncing correctly. I even recorded the voice of their example human and played it back for the app and it didn’t accept the voice to allow me to move on in the lesson. Otherwise a solid user-friendly app that clearly is relying far too much on AI and not enough human spot-checking.

Bad for beginners
Chat GPT can teach you Arabic more efficiently for free. This isn’t good for people starting fresh with Arabic. Also the AI is very primitive .
Transliteration problem
Please make an option to remove the transliteration it is disruptive when trying to focus on the original text.
Some flaws
Started ok, but recorded voice saying it for you to repeat it cut out some. Then when I tried to go back to the camel there was no way to hear him say it slower or clearer so I was stuck in a holding pattern. Has potential for a good app, needs work. Good luck.
Could be better
I love the thought of this app. And I almost bought the subscription but it seems like it doesn’t want to run properly or at all. I have an iPhone 17 pro. Majority of the time it won’t pronounce the word or it will just not do anything except buffer. I can’t watch the video reviews because they won’t load. And it’s not my internet for sure. But please fix!! And I will come change my review

Took my money and cant even use the tool
I downloaded this app because I seen it recommended by many influencers and I wanted to learn Arabic. I go to sign up for the free trial, and they charge me for a year. This was the first issue I had. Then, after using it for 3 days, they sign me out and theres no way for me to sign back it. The only option is to pay for another year. I reached out on instagram and sent them an email but no one has ever got back to me.
Good but not excellent
At the welcome questionnaire it doesn’t show all dialects that are actually available to learn (like North African). The option to learn several dialects at once would be great (like Duolingo). I need to learn two dialects. Some Arabic words are not fully accurate in some of the dialects. Needs some improvement but the experience seems good to learn, again not excellent yet, please improve it (I’m already paying premium). Definitely not for someone that wants to learn for free though.

Great when it works
I got to to surprise my friend and learn her dialect. Many times the sounds don't play or it will not pick up when I speak. It doesn't matter if I'm using earbuds or speaking into the phone. I wish this app was further along but I'll stick with it for now.

predatory subscription service
app never gave me the two day notification before charging me 100$. a two day free trial is ridiculous and very predatory. i wanted to reach out to get a refund and you can’t find a customer support email anywhere. in addition, when i tried logging in on my wife’s phone, since she might actually use it, you can’t. it’s linked to one apple id/device. when i tried on her phone, said i don’t want to subscribe, it gave me a deal for an annual 35$ subscription. so if you want to subscribe reject it at first and then accept the 35$ deal.

It seemed pretty cool at first, but after switching to a new phone, it wants me to resubscribe… I bought the year subscription, I don’t want to buy another subscription after spending that money. Hopefully it’ll be fixed.

Not Egyptian Arabic
I speak a little Egyptian Arabic but would like to improve and downloaded Kalam on the basis that you can select this specific dialect. The first couple of lessons made it clear that the app does not tailor the lessons to Egyptian (the greetings were all wrong). It seems like a decent enough app for learning general Arabic, but it doesn’t seem to do Egyptian as advertised. Also some of the buttons didn’t seem to do nothing when clicked.
No alphabet?
I really enjoy this as an Arabic speaker, but I was really hoping to learn reading alongside the conversational stuff. I guess I misjudged, but the alphabet is important for pronunciation if you’re trying to teach someone that isn’t familiar with the language, yes?
Excited
I stopped using Duolingo for many reasons and I’ve been looking for an alternative to continue my language learning journey and Kalam so far seems like the perfect fit!

I keep saying the word correctly and it keeps marking it incorrect. I wish we could move past it.
Great app but too many bugs
Great concept for learning practical Arabic. There are way too many glitches that need to be fixed before anyone should be asked to pay that much money for an app. The app will get stuck for minutes frequently, the audio sometimes just stops playing altogether, progress is not saved if you start a topic, you have to start all over, sometimes buttons just don’t work.
Iraqi dialect selection doesn’t work
When I selected the Iraqi dialect it still kept it as the levant Arabic

Not a free app
I’m tired of this app getting advertised as free. You have to pay for a subscription to even learn or start anything on Kalam. I’ll stick with duo, drops, and my books.
Bad app, cool concept
While the concept is a great one and it is much needed for people interested in learning different Arabic dialects unfortunately the app is glitchy and slow, and really puts a hinder on the learning process. Also, the actual learning process doesn’t make sense. There’s no practice and there’s no way to help retain words that are being learned. You have to rely fully on a strong memory because you only go through learning each word once.
a few suggestions to improve your app.
the app is okay, like an ai duolingo for arabic. yet the tunisian dialect is not very accurate for some words. for example, ‘sayyara’ is used for car, yet tunisians say ‘karhaba’; ‘ya sahli’ is used for hello, when tunisians usually say ‘aslema’. I think the words need to be checked and updated by real tunisians, as AI is not always accurate. I’m not sure about the other dialects though. secondly, if I want to practice my recently saved words, i have to rearrange them manually, which is long. maybe under ‘bookmarked words’ have a category as ‘practice 10 random words’ and ‘practice 10 recently saved’ so that I don’t have to rearrange. the reason I ask this - the daily quiz shows new words! the practice random words shows new words! maybe I want to remember and retain words before jumping into new ones everyday…

Bad PickUp on Speech
I say the words exactly as it does, in Lebanese Arabic, I’m Lebanese, and it just doesn’t pick up what I’m saying. Keeps saying its wrong. So then you’re stuck playing a game with it to try to recognize your voice correctly
Potential
I think the app has the potential to be something great. However, I find it to be very glitchy. The audio detection lags, the speech of words very often do not work. I do understand it’s a fairly new app so there will be buds but this was far more than I expected. I might give it a try again at some point in the future.
Peppa Pig?
The app is great but I don’t think you should be using Peppa Pig to teach Arabic at all.
