Learning Japanese
It has been a struggle but so far I’m on day two and learning a good bit. I love how it stops and corrects me instead of continuing and even if I don’t say correctly, it still suggests that I corrected to make it sound perfect so I don’t mess up anything so far is the best practice I’ve had and wouldn’t use anything else except for language learning Pingo.
Disappointed
I was really hoping this would fill in the gaps that are missing from Duolingo but it will explain what I’m doing wrong in the language I’m learning which is obviously a mistake

Pretty fun but there’s a problem that I hate
I’ve tried using many different types of language learning apps, and none of them worked. Finding this app, I had a bit of hope but what sucked the hope and joy out of it, is that I have a pay for a subscription when I can’t even afford it
Cool but IRRITATING
Cool app and makes it easy to learn the language you want because it’s like you’re having an actual conversation. However, I got the $17.99/mo subscription and the app has done nothing but glitch (AI voice cuts out, doesn’t compute what i say, takes a very long time to compute what I say IF it does at all, AI voice doesn’t respond, cuts me off mid sentence, after lessons gives a congrats screen that won’t go away and judt starts the next lesson) so I have to close it and completely restart the lesson I’m on no matter where I am in the lesson. It’s highly frustrating and annoying and shouldn’t be basically $20 to glitch out every single time I try to use it.

This language learning app was truly really good in the seven days that I used it for the free trial. I was actually having fun and remembering the words this was one of the first language learning apps that I actually had fun with and actually learn learned something from and the translations are pretty accurate even for some languages like Russian but I truly think this is an amazing language learning app I know I basically just said the same thing over and over again, but I truly mean it

It is nearly impossible to cancel the subscription and they make it impossible to request refunds if you just wanted to try!! THIS APP IS A SCAM AND WILL STEAL 100 bucks from you!

Ich habe die App jetzt ein wenig probiert mit Russisch. Positiv: - Realistische Vokabeln und Gespräche - Als Drill neuerdings ein “böses Pingo” - zuschneiden für welchen Zweck man lernen möchte und darauf sind die Lektionen angepasst Negativ: - spätestens nach dem 3. Mal sprechen wird automatisch deine Antwort als richtig gewertet. - Das “böse Pingo” kam erst viele Monate nachdem ich mir das Abo gekauft habe rein. Obwohl damit ständig Werbung gemacht wird. - die Ki denkt manchmal ich sage Sachen obwohl ich diese noch nicht mal gelernt habe. - Es ist deutlich auf Sprache aufgebaut und gibt kaum Möglichkeiten gut unterwegs zu üben bzw. Schrift zu üben.
Decent - good idea but not there yet
Ultimately, this is a good idea, but a huge letdown in terms of the actual user experience and functionality. The conversational AI that I expected is not so conversational after all. The app does a good job of setting up scenarios and having you walk-through and build upon very basic sentences as you go. However, there’s a major breakdown and miss when it comes to creating conversational AI where you can go back-and-forth or debate points. For example, I was going through a lesson that included a mock scenario where I am a Chef and I needed to propose a new menu idea to my boss. Despite Pingo giving me the topic, it suggested that I needed to ask for more “engineers“. It was then difficult to reason with Pingo about how a real conversation like this would go so that in the theory, I’d be ready for a conversation like this in real life. Instead, I had a conversation that was half baked and a little nonsensical, and all Pingo did was provide me with basic grammar rules that I should adhere to when proposing an argument. It would be helpful in this scenario if you could go back-and-forth with the AI chat bot in the same way that you could with a ChatGPT or Copilot. If I role-play with the spoken, ChatGPT feature, it will often suggest things or push back on things if instructed. I would think for a dedicated voice chat bot feature in a language learning app, it would be able to take on different example personas in order to simulate real conversation, which is what most people are looking for when they’re learning languages rather than the traditional “flashcards” type app.
The app is great but it needs a change

The customer service is awful
I was trying the free trial out to see if I would like this app, but was wary because the cost was kinda high. I cancelled my subscription, but I was still charged. They use a payment method called link.com and I was unable to log in to submit for a refund. I emailed link.com and the advised me that I would need to contact the product(Pingo) for a refund because my account was deactivated. When I reached back to Pingo they said I would need to go through Link.com again. This runaround has been unbelievably frustrating and is causing me financial issues. I don’t recommend this App at all.
Furigana in Japanese
It would be helpful if the pronunciation showed the furigana above the kanji. When it is a word you are unfamiliar with it would be very helpful to see the pronunciation in hiragana.

Great App
I really like this app. This is my 3rd year of learning español. First year was Duolingo. Then 2nd year Pimsler. I really like this because unlike the other 2 apps if I don’t understand something fully. I can stop it mid sentence and question it. I can ask it any question and I can role play any situation I like. It’s brilliant. Sometimes the audio goes a bit robotic at times but I just tell it to repeat or I can follow the transcript. Definitely the best thing I’ve used. It’s like having your own personal tutor that you can use whenever and wherever! I can tell it to speak to me only in English for this part but I have picked up on so many useful phrases just by it talking to me in Español. I wonder if it will stay as cheap as it was. Much cheaper than the 2 I mentioned.
Steal money and use Link
Wouldn’t recommend any trial or subscription it doesn’t last 7 days as stated and they use link for payments without notice so they take your information and charge you. Not to mention the support sucks they don’t help and I have gone in circles with link and pingo both blaming eachother with no help.
Inhalte gut aber sie erkennt meine Aussprache nicht richtig
Entweder bringt sie mir die falsche Aussprache bei, oder sie versteht es einfach nicht aber ich sage teilweise einen Satz genauso wie die KI und sie sagt es ist falsch. Das frustriert ehrlich gesagt und nimmt den Spaß weil man den gleichen Satz 5mal wiederholen soll.
No grammar
It really wants you to focus on memorizing random sounds than actual grammar. It will tell you to say “where is the bakery” even before telling you you’re saying the word bakery, and it also really doesn’t want to teach conjugation or declination at all. It will continually try to get you back into the loop of asking where is the bakery instead of the most basic grammatical “I am, she is, they are”. It also struggles to hear me speak, a lot of times it’ll prompt me to speak and immediately within a half second say “that’s not quite [AI filler content nonsense]” and I’m like I didn’t say anything yet.
An ok way to learn
I have been wanting to learn French for so long and so many of these apps have been letting me down recently. At first I was excited to use this app and it was helpful, but now it’s not listening to what I am saying and it is translating what I’m saying into completely different French words that I know I didn’t say. Now it is very good at helping with accent and how to say actual words, but I wish it would pick up that I am saying the actual words, just maybe not in the right way they need to be said yet.

So.. I was super excited to use this app, but it’s so expensive wdym I have to pay basically 100 dollars to try and learn Spanish just so I can hold a conversation with my boyfriend and his family?? In most on their native language??? This is bs
Free Plan Opinion
The app is a really good and useful app for learning languages. I’ve used the app before to learn Spanish, now I’m planning to use the app to learn Japanese. I used their free week trial which was great. However, I wished they had a free plan where you still have some features like the A.I and pay premium for other features.
Horribly inaccurate often completely mishears or makes up words you didn’t say
Not much else to say it was funny the first time it misheard but now it’s mishearing your replies and hallucinating at least half of the lesson straight up unusable for learning. Maybe it’s better for other languages but for Persian and Chinese it’s unusable
Ok for Modern Standard Arabic
If you want to practice a spoken dialect, this is not the app for that; it’s MSA with full pronunciation of all vowels only. Recognizing that MSA does have a place, I continued with it anyway but feel that feedback it gives isn’t always reliable, in that when you don’t get a sentence right it just keeps having you repeat it in full instead of pinpointing where the problem is and other times when I know I’ve made a mistake, it congratulates me and doesn’t point it out at all. The AI also seems inconsistent with solar and lunar letters so sometimes the pronunciation to get it to advance is super, super awkward. Last, when the spoken prompt is to form your own sentence, the only answer it accepts is what it has written on the screen.

Useless
I bought the app to better my conversations in Spanish because I had already taken Spanish for three years. I was unable to actually practice answering freely because all it wanted me to do was repeat a prompt it gave me. Completely useless and not what I saw it was advertised for.
I know how to say my name?
Super cool app so far, although I did just start it. I am getting frustrated with the fact that it keeps getting hung up on how I say my name? I keep having to repeat exercises with the feedback being that I don’t say my name right. Super irritating. Nice other than that, though.
Just teaches memorization
Doesn’t really teach you how to speak conversationally. It will ask a question in the language you’re learning without teaching you what it means, and then ask you to just spit out the phrase you’ve been memorizing for the lesson. I should also be learning how to ask the question back, what words mean. Not just repeating them back to the AI when prompted. It also barely ever catches the beginning of what you say the first time.
No lessons for intermediate or advanced learners
Incredibly hard to figure this app out. Was hoping it would help me get comfortable with speaking but it seems like no matter what level I set, the lessons default to basic greetings and situations for A1 level learners. I also can't save or continue conversations so I lose all my progress and vocabulary. There's no way to change the pace of the teacher so the conversations are very slow and feel quite boring. This is another reason why you should be able to save a conversation and jump back in instead of starting over again from hello. It is really frustrating how much this app costs and how little it offers in terms of structure or essential features

Ai update
So I haven’t used the app in almost a year because life got busy. Well I’m starting fresh and I’ve noticed with the ai(I think it’s ai) it makes some mistake such as it you hit the translate so see the letters in “English to try to help pronounce it’s wrong. Like me(the system) when it was actually na. Also I’ll know I pronounced it right but says I said it completely wrong. It’s like spirit struggling with my southern accent. Other that that the app is amazing

GPT4 level intelligence, messes the target and source languages in both directions, speech recognition inserts punctuation if I hesitate for a second, any noise skips turns, expects exact phrase matching with details. Otherwise, nice UI, smooth registration and one week trial.

AI recognition
Yeah the app sucks. It’s all AI based and when I was speaking back to my “teacher” the app wouldn’t pick up that I was saying the correct thing and kept marking me as wrong which then in turn, makes the avatar kind of nasty to you. A waste of time truly. There also wasn’t a build up to learning and they immediately put me with a “teacher” who basically only spoke in the language I intended to learn. I barely understood anything and there wasn’t much learning just repeating phrases which like I said, the app couldn’t track properly. It needs a lot of work, I’d rather use duolingo.

So far I am satisfied with the app! I am currently learning Mandarin Chinese and I think the app is very good for speaking especially if you’re introverted and shy to talk to natives. My only slight complaint (very specific for mandarin) is that you can’t change the characters to traditional in the settings, which is what I need to learn, so I’m hoping in the future there might be the option to change the characters from simplified to traditional!

Pronounciation tasks are terrible
It’s good for learning and practicing but the pronounciation tasks are terrible. It keeps telling me I’m pronouncing it wrong even though I’m pronouncing it perfectly fine. It usually doesn’t tell me what I’m supposedly pronouncing wrong but when it does, it’s something I never even said wrong. No matter how clear I say it. This is really getting on my nerves please fix that. And please don’t tell me to lower down the “strictness” of the AI because at the end of the day, I need my mistakes corrected and not looked over, but it’s really infuriating when it’s correcting mistakes I never made
