great app but needs work
love steppin but is there a way to make it read steps from strava / ultrahuman / oura ring / garmin? i run without my phone and so the steps from my runs never get tracked in the app since it only reads from the health app from my phone
?
Amazing idea but doesn’t work
Please fix this app! It’s such a great concept but it never logs my steps so I can barely access my blocked apps - I’ve set it up to connect to my Fitbit as per the FAQ but even when my Fitbit and health app on my phone say 10,000 steps plus, Steppin gives me say 7 mins, or 0 mins (despite 100 steps supposedly unlocking 1 minute). It’s veryyy glitchy so I can’t use it as is but I’d love to - if it worked it would be the cure for instagram addiction!
The best way to break your browser
Before this, I would disable Safari in order to avoid the distraction, but the reality is it’s too easy to re-enable it. It’s way better to slightly “break” the browser than to just toggle it on and off and this does the trick well. Steppin adds real intention to every browser use, highly recommend!
Great concept but doesn’t work
Love the idea of this app, but it’s glitching bad on my iPhone 13. Impossible to set up - just turns black or returns to previous screen when I attempt to select apps to block. Maybe another time.
Requires Pro, but Pro features not working
Of all the step lock apps, I do think this is the best out there for my needs. But they only allow you to block one app before requiring a pro subscription. Even then, with the pro it seems to “forget” which apps are supposed to be blocked until I open up Steppin again. Would also be nice if could set this up on a schedule (unlock on weekends). Most likely will not be a returning subscriber.
Very good app
It’s completely free and gives screen time for selected apps based on your steps and adjustable difficulty
Falsch gemacht
Great app. Needs work
Love how this app makes me more intentional with screen time. It seems to “forget” my restrictions unless I go into the app and go back out. Specifically Facebook and Instagram
Great
It helps keep my mind of social media

10 and 2 are not the same
So I really like this app because it’s forced me to walk more and be more actively engaged as opposed to sitting on my phone looking at social media however, I have noticed that when I’m trying to use 10 minutes or five minutes, the timer is not actually counting the 10 or the five minutes and it’s actually only giving me three. So I already have to walk 8 billion years to get a few hours of social media in general, but then the timer is an actively counting the time properly. So 10 minutes is really three minutes on the app and it happened multiple times because I was confused and I checked so I said my 10 minutes at 12:31 and at 12:34 my timer was up. I thought I was over using my social media time but really I’m barely using any time in the app is saying I’m using a whole bunch. Please fix it.
Sound issues
Love this app, but unfortunately the apps I selected would no longer play sound once I decided to use my time for them. I had to delete the app for the sound to work again. Would give 5 stars if it wasn’t for this bug.
Nice it is free
The app can block whole categories which is good - installing a new social app automatically has that app controlled. Helpful to avoid doom scrolling
Was A Fantastic App
New Review: This is terrible. I used this app since the day it came out, but because of a bug with my iPhone had to clear my phone and restart it. Now you have to pay to block more than 1 app? I’ll just go back to using self control. Old Review: Been here since it was launched and not only has it caught on with my friend group, but we noticed a bug in the code and they were quick to resolve the issue when alerted!
helpful but sometimes doesn’t work
the first few months i used this it helped me so much. my screentime was down an insane amount and i actually prioritized exercising. recently in the past few months it hasn’t been blocking the apps. i thought it was a glitch and let it be thinking it would fix itself but it doesn’t ever block the app again unless i go back and physically click on Steppin. i requested to use a minute and the minute passed, it locked the app as usual and i left the app. then it immediately unlocks. it’s super helpful when it works keeping me accountable but it’s annoying going back to steppin to make sure it actually locks every time. i wanted it to keep me accountable not me have to keep the app keeping me accountable 😭 but other than that i love the app and highly recommend
Super cool concept, very buggy
Love the idea, and it looks great. Unfortunately it’s incredibly buggy. Seems like more of a beta project. Hopefully it’ll be better in time
Amazing App
I’ve tried many apps to limit my screen time but none of them have worked as well as Steppin. My screen time on social media has reduced from 2-4 hours to 30 minutes. I find it more helpful than apps that just completely block apps. Instead, Stepping encourages me to go on walks and my daily step count has increased a lot as well. I love all the new features being added like blocking the app until a specific step count is reached. I’m an early user and I will definitely continue to use this app.
Will corrupt your apps
I used it for a few weeks/months, and I liked it, until it started breaking my apps, all the apps that were restricted wouldn’t play any audio even when restrictions were lifted, or when I uninstalled steppin, when I uninstalled the broken apps, and still nothing. After a whole lot of bs of restarting the phone and clearing caches and restrictions I fixed it, and when I downloaded steppin again it restricted me to only one app?? Why? I logged in with the same account so i should get my 14 apps again. After all that it wasn’t worth the trouble for just one app restriction, just use another app that doesn’t break your phone!!
Walk first. Scroll later.
I never review apps, but Steppin is one of those rare ideas that immediately made sense in my actual life. I seriously need to walk more, spend less time doomscrolling and do a better job protecting my sleep and mental health. This app connects all of those things in a way that feels simple, practical and surprisingly motivating: walk first, unlock later. It doesn’t shame or overcomplicate anything. It just creates a healthy bit of friction between you and the apps that are too easy to open without thinking. For me that has led to more time outside and fewer wasted minutes on toxic social media.
Doesn’t Sync
The app does not sync with Apple health. I have tried everything, closing & reopening, leaning them both open in the background, ect. But the steps in health don’t update in the app
Great app but needs some fix
I used to spend so much time on social media without thinking, after using this app, I have way less eager to use those social media and can focus on things that I really want to. I would have given 5 star if there was no bug with my streaks. Somehow it got reset to 0 day today…I hope they will be able to fix it soon, but so far I love using this app and already recommended to my friends. :)
great
awesome sauce
Locks you out in emergencies
Theoretically I believe that this is a good app, but practically it’s an abomination. I recently got done with surgery and thought I would set this app up for the postoperative period when I would benefit from periods of exercise. Lo and behold, there’s no on-off switch once you initially set things up - you’re stuck with apps switched off and the only way you can get to them is by hoping you can Google your support surgical problem in time before everything stays shut down on your device! Seriously?!? No Fail Safe?!? I immediately deleted the app so that I could take care of my medical emergency - and guess what? I will never reinstall it!!! It’s a potentially dangerous app which was not thoroughly developed before it was released. Highly not recommended.
Pls fix the bug I can't use my time😂
This is a great app and I love the idea, the functions, the UI and everything:)But please fix the current bug because I can't use my time earned by my steps😂
STOP MAKING ME UPDATE EVERY TIME it’s really annoying
The app itself is good but every week or so there’s an update for like minor bug fixes and it forces you to update which is just a huge nuisance. Just give alerts of new updates, don’t force them.
makes you budget your time :3
i’ve only had this app for a day but it’s great, way better than apple screen time. making me think about how much time i actually want to spend on instagram before i open it works really well and actually made me way under my goal of 1.5h screen time since i never really want to be on the app for more than ten minutes. also, i cant doomscroll before even getting out of bed. great app idea and execution. thank you!
Great idea, but this ‘beta’ version…
… has too many annoying rough spots to be usable. When you time out it cuts you out of timed games that you can’t get back to in time. And then when you delete it from your phone you have to get directions to manually clean up after it.
Simple yet effective
Great app. Simple yet effective. Since it’s still a new app, there’s some bugs here and there but I’m hoping they’ll all be fixed in the future. Note: the current version isn’t accurately showing my time available, thus not letting me unlock my apps. This happened after I changed my reset day to Monday midnight (thank you so much for this update though, was really looking forward to it). Looking forward to this bug being fixed!
Great idea- glitchy execution
Unable to add/ remove without the app crashing. Sometimes logs out so the streak is lost. Frequently doesn’t redirect to the app to use accumulated time
Amazing
I never EVER rate apps lol but considering how underrated this app is, I had to. My average screen time on instagram is now 18 minutes (: used to be 2-4 hours. If I want to use it, I go for a walk outside and feel instantly better and no longer need the dopamine hit given through reels. You earn a minute for every 100 steps you take by default. Encourages you to walk on the days you just want to rot in bed and scroll which helps ur mental health by infinity. Has been amazing for my health and I couldn’t recommend it more. Happy to be a early user
Constantly times out
I just read an article about Steppin. This app sounds amazing and seems like just what I need. But when trying to add the apps I want limit, the screen went black about 8 times and would time out, making me start over. I couldn’t add the apps I wanted to limit without it crashing so I’ll be deleting Steppin. Frustrating to read an article promoting this when it’s clear the app isn’t ready for GA.
Bugs fixed quickly
Good concept
Really great concept!
It’s a really great concept to lessen your screen time but the app needs some more updates. It doesn’t let me remove an app from the list of restricted apps after initially assigning them.
