Great game
Great game. Lots of fun and fair pay mechanics.
Pay To Win DO NOT DOWNLOAD
I loved this game and have been very competitive in high MMR lobbies, playing multiple games a day. With the new reroll microtransactions I will not be playing nearly as often if at all. If you’re interested in this game you should not download it, find a better game with a dev team that has demonstrated that they will take reasonable action to monetize their game without sacking it. The captain reroll microtransactions cause high MMR games to be more stale with the same OP captains and put you at a competitive disadvantage if you don’t have them. RIP to what used to be a cool game.
Definitely fun.
This game is fun. There are enough leaders that it does not get repetitive, but after a few months I think it will unless I spent money to get different characters. But I am certainly enjoying it now.
Fun Until It’s Frustrating
Game is fun for a while, but something isn’t right about the balance of it. It’s very easy for it to seem like you and your opponents are not playing the same game. Some games it feels like you’re two turns behind, some games you’re the one two turns ahead. Some games it seems your opponents just leave and their board never changes, and you can tie the game into infinity. This makes me believe that the asynchronous nature of the game just takes random snapshots of boards up to a point and then it’ll just give you the same one forever until the games over. The strategy aspect of this just feels nonexistent. It’s probably better to save yourself the headache and not download this.
It’s fine.
Just started playing and my first impressions is that the game is meh and worst and ok a best. I think that in general the draft system for a “deck” is too randomized. For example I could be trying to make a strategy based on the animal type getting a good piece for the strategy and maybe also a good captain but then get nothing for two turns forcing me to entirely change strategies. I think that currently the thing I want most is to be able to customize or be able to control the decks if that is a feature. I hope to find it soon. It may also be because I can’t read any of the text which might be a problem on my side. I also have no idea if I am playing against real people but I doubt so since I’ve only been playing for about 5-10 minutes. Also have no idea what the pass does or what happens when I get enough stars for the next tier since I saw no changes in my gameplay. Again this all could change as I play this game for longer since I trust VeggieWagon from decked out but for now I think this is the highest review I can give this game.
Good, fast, convenient.
If you like auto-battlers this one is definitely worth giving a try. It is free, fast-paced, and easy to learn. Similar to Hearthstone Battlegrounds but more fun and well developed in my opinion. RNG can be rough sometimes but games feel casual and go fast so it is not a big deal to just go next when you get rolled.
Stupid
So I was having a good run but had to change apps for sixty seconds. POOF. RUN VANISHED.
Good but not “beginner” friendly
I’m not usually into TCG/Deck building games much, and this game is definitely a lot of fun, but it very much so seems to assume you know how to play this sort of game. There’s almost no tutorial of sorts, and even less telling you what is going on. I’m doing pretty well I think, but it’s a lot of me just guessing and praying. I would love if there was at least some sort of way to look up things to understand more - like what does a treasure actually look like, what is a spell, how often can things be used? Overall it isn’t clearly labeled or, basically, complete beginner friendly. I still don’t even know how to build myself a custom deck, and once I have, where to find it. The game is fun and I play it a lot, which is why I gave it 4 stars, but for how much I get lost or confused, I really wanted to give it 3.
Buggy and crashing after update
Fun game, but the update has caused my game to crash after every game now.
Good Game, Terribly Optimised for Iphone
Game is good, ive played a lot on pc and my iphone. The app itself is very poorly optimised. It drains power very quickly, and has weird prioritisation which makes it difficult to swap to another app while it is running. Most of the time doing so will also end your run without notifying you, sometimes temporarily freezing your phone in the process. It also forces sound priority stopping whatever else you might have playing, this is workaround-able but shows the general issue with the app. I don’t know how best to explain it beyond this but its the worst app on my phone in terms of these issues. I assume this is just down to bad programming of some kind but i dont know anything about that. I assume these issues are fixable with some work but idk.
Great game!
Amazing game. Simply put. It’s actually fun to play.
New predatory IAPs
I used to really support this game - advertised it to all my friends and anyone looking for a fun game they can play on the go. I spent a fair amount of money just to support the developers because I really believed they were onto something good. Unfortunately, their recent patch added in a new monetization for an in-game advantage. It adds up to $45… at its discounted price. There’s no way for free-to-play players to unlock these advantages. It’s one thing to lock cosmetics behind a paywall, but doing it to gameplay is completely different. It’s scummy and unnecessary.
Here because of DeckedOut
The game is run once you figure out what is actually going on. There is no tutorial. There is a 20+ page document that you can read which no one has ever read except for the creators
Used to be great
Newest update is a paywall. Been playing for a while, really enjoyed the game. With this newest update if you don’t purchase the boosters your win rate will drop to the point it’s not even fun. Only gave two stars because the game used to be a lot of fun.
Waiting for screen reader compatibility for blind players
The game is awesome, but currently unplayable for blind players. This would be a dream come true to play. It needs screen reader compatibility
Great!
No pay to win here, just good card smashing fun. Give it a shot!
Paid Rerolls are a terrible idea
The game has a just problem with captain bloat, with each requiring all cards to be unlocked all over again and each diluting the chances of seeing any other.champion in your picks. Selling the "solution" for 60 bucks and another 20 for every set is just a terrible, greedy idea that leaves all non-whale players in the dust.
Rumpelstiltskin lies
Still learning the game but fun so far. I ran into something just now and that is: when I hit play, Rumpelstiltskin says “I’m locked but don’t worry! Here is a gift of 500 gems so you can unlock me…” when I hit the button however, the game prompts me to buy 500 gems to unlock
Wasted
Game started off really fun but as time has gone on the skill/luck balance makes the game completely unfun to play. Each round you can successfully predict how it will go by just imagining what are the worst attacks for you and the game will do those. You open one of the broken captains or get RNG screwed out of the game. This could be alleviated some if the computer had bad runs too but they don’t you just always face the same 5-8 good captains. Any bad luck you have no one will ever face since computer’s runs seem to be chosen solely by successful runs. There should be balance changes for cards that RNG centered but devs insist there are no outliers despite constantly facing the same exact captains.
Well, it was great…
Before the last overhaul I would’ve given 5 stars, but now all my cards are gone and I have to start over. Not only that, but I’m also losing points, so I’m being punished for not having the cards I spent so much time earning—and no, the gems do not make up for that. I’m about ready to move on, which is sad because I was having so much fun… Btw, you should really add new cards to incomplete decks automatically. Going through manually is annoying as hell and a waste of time.
Great laid back auto-battler!
This game is very fun! The balance seems good so far, the community is active and friendly, the game lets you play it at your own pace and is a lot of fun!
New update ruined game
Idk what they did but ever since the update my luck has been worse the character selection has been worse and the game quality has decreased.
Was fun
When I first started playing this game it was so fun and I could not put it down. After playing the game for over a month some problems I had became more obvious and started to detract from my enjoyment. This game has very heavy RNG. There is for sure skill expression and better players will win more than lose. However you can only pick between 3 (kind of 4) captains. It is random with weight to captains that are new and may be unowned. But if you buy a new captain you are not guaranteed to see it unless you buy it in the captain select. All captains have starter decks but you can make a custom deck, but unless you customize the deck from captain select you never know when you will see that captain. The acquisition of cards can be problematic you need to get cards around 130 right now for each captain so it can be hard to get all the cards. Where card acquisition I don’t like is your “deck” is only 12 cards which gets added to a large pool of cards that everyone has access to. Your 12 you bring you may never see or see very little so customization can feel like it has little impact sometimes. One of the biggest things I didn’t care for was the format of their monthly tournament. You play 5 rounds and every round it increase in how high you must place to advance. I felt it didn’t feel good as you could take 1st place on the first 4 rounds and 2nd in the last and you will not qualify to move on. This was not a dealbreaker for me as I could just not play that part of the game. However on their discord I provided my feelings and feedback. The devs or team members responses to feedback was really disappointing as they said they value drama over most things and wanted to evoke emotions even if frustrating because they find that better than apathy. They also proceeded to say that many people who shared similar feedback as a vocal minority that if listened to would wreck the game. They feel their data metrics for this game and a game they previously made, which is now shut down, are better indicators. They felt their own Reddit and discord was just an echo chamber. This overall attitude is what prompted me to stop playing this game. I spent money on this game and now regret it. If you do play take it very casual and enjoy it!
Like a faster hearthstone
As a HS fan, this game is dope. Matches are fast and don’t require constant connections or waiting. Cool.
Fine except for rubber banding and quick deaths
Games is an okay clone of once upon a time. The game has worse heart system, you can lose an entire game and only play three rounds. There is also some rubber banding going on. I’ll face incredibly hard lobbies and then steam roll a lobby whose last player still has 1 or 2 common characters still on the board.
Bare bones as is
A very weak tutorial does not explain the gameplay at all. The cards don’t really reveal how they work or what buffs the cards have. Needs work.
What a Beautiful Game
“ Once upon a galaxy is so interesting because some games you'll be committing literal war crimes against actual children and other games you're getting 5th place after obtaining every secret rare treasure on turn 16 “
Most uneven slop ever.
This game is so unbalanced, then you look up rules and it lies. Like first turn is supposed to be random. It’s not. It’s whatever is to your disadvantage. Then the captain selection is non existent so you can’t silver captains you can’t play. Then cards are not based on your captain. The ai is horrible and it’s a pure cash grab without anything incentivized to purchase.
Little Kid RNG
In two months, the only update introduced another massively imbalanced legendary to the game. Zero balance updates. It’s one big coin flip simulator, and there hasn’t even been an effort to fix the known cheating in the game. It’s fun for a week or two, but don’t get baited by the MTG names attached to the game. It’s been designed as a very “modern” loot box style experience.
this game is awesome
i. love. this. game. the fact that theres no ai and no ads makes it even more appealing to me! the gameplay has me losing actual hours in the day and i love giving different captains a try.
Super unfair RNG. Takes out all the fun.
See above
Great free game - quick fun matches
I have been having a blast with this game. The fact it’s made by a lot of the same people that made Storybook Brawl is such a selling point to me, they’re the best and that game was fantastic. Really fun quick matches that you can walk away from at any time because of the asynchronous matchmaking. Really smart, highly recommended
Stuck on title screen
When I start the game and it says to purchase a new hero for 600 gems. In the top left it says I have 0 and I get stuck on that screen and the game freezes when I click purchase info. First time player. Can’t get past that screen and can’t play unfortunately…
Great autobattler card game
I’ve really been enjoying the game. It has a lot of replayability and interaction to explore! Would love to see more builds become viable as the strong ones are just a bit too strong
