Fun and clunky

A fun premise but there are just so many issues. The controls are awkward, adjusting the joystick positioning is buggy, (and why do I even need specific joystick locations on a touch screen in the first place?), your character gets stuck a lot, the camera angles and perspective are bad, dialogue appears SOOO slow (letter by letter, which can’t be sped up) and when in a level it actually affects your controls bc tapping changes to advancing the dialogue instead of controlling your character. Overall the devs didn’t bother with some basic modern quality of life upgrades to make it playable

Okay but missing things

Fun to play but definitely needs work still. No one wants to roll around the same three bathhouse levels for a single candy. No one wants to grind these levels for a singular candy in an attempt to get any of the absurdly priced presents. Why not give candy as a reward for completing a collection? Why is the mask not available? What about the hat? Why not show us how the commenters work or what videos they're connected to considering they're the only way to get any somewhat substantial amount of candy? Why have the shop so filled up at all when there are plenty of levels that give players nothing but stars? Why not have some of these items be found? Or why not offer different items within the levels that currently have nothing? Also, give Kuro his extra antenna back, as that was a horrid mistake of a design change. So many of the cousins look the same and yall had to take away the one thing that made him unique. Good game but could be great with some more care and thought put into it.

The reviewer is roleplaying as the King of All Cosmos. Please understand.

You would expect one who is helping Us with rolling Katamari without the ability to use a Game Controller? We remember when We started, we were on a game console. Controllers standard. Yet on this Macintosh computer, far far superior to what we began on? Players must use the keyboard. We are disappointed. It is probably The Prince’s fault. He should do better.

★★★☆☆ United States · v1.4.0 · 5 Aug 2025

I so wish I could play it with a controller.

This is a fully-fledged Katamari game. It has all the hallmarks of the series, the incredible music, the charming humor, the small dense levels full of visual gags. That's the problem, really. Katamari games game are designed from the ground up to be played with a controller. They have come up with four different control schemes in an attempt to make it work on a touch screen, and none of them work amazingly well. The best ones for me are the twin stick ones, but I keep feeling frustrated by them. Having to control the Katamari using tiny virtual joysticks with no tactile feedback means I constantly end up moving at an angle slightly different to the one I wanted or grabbing the stick halfway into its zone instead of dead center, so when I drag the stick all the one in one direction, the camera moves slowly. It's just so frustrating. I have these tiny joysticks I have to keep my thumbs on. I can't look at them because I have to keep my eye on the game, and they obviously feel exactly like every other part of the touchscreen, so I have no sensory feedback whatsoever that can help me keep my thumbs on them. When my thumbs do inevitably slide off them, nothing happens immediately, because the game is perfectly capable of tracking my touch no matter where on the touch screen it is. However when my touch briefly slides off the screen and onto the panel above or below the screen, the stick snaps back to neutral. Because this is a momentum-based game, I don't notice that my inputs are no longer registering until my katamari slows to a halt, at which point I have to look at the sticks to see which one is the problem, put my thumb back on it, and get my momentum going again. Meanwhile these tiny sticks are surrounded by vast swathes of touch screen that do NOTHING. These areas of the screen are absolutely capable of taking input, and I know this because they LITERALLY DO as long as I touch the sticks first. I just don't understand why it was deemed necessary for most of the phone's touchscreen to be converted into a giant dead-zone! Why can't the entire left side of the screen act as the left joystick, and the entire right side of the screen act as the right joystick? That's literally already how it works as long as you touch the sticks first! Just get rid of the sticks and make it work like that all the time! Neutral can be whichever spot on the screen I touch! There is a control mode that uses the entire screen, but it involves sliding in the direction you want the katamari to go and is just impossible to use with any precision. You might as well be playing with voice commands. It's a good game, certainly worth playing. However it lacks the responsive controls that made the previous games a joy to play. I don't find myself motivated to try each level over and over chasing that perfect score. Doing so is actually really aggravating as attempt after attempt is ruined by bouts of your katamari completely stalling out while you try to figure out why your controls aren't working. Just play it once and move on.

Difficulty ruins the atmosphere of the game

It’s a great looking well put together Katamari game apart from the fact that the difficulty just seems ridiculous for no apparent reason. Time limits are crazy short and I’ve reached a point where I can barely make it to half the required sizes and just fail. It’s become an exercise in frustration vs what Katamari should be about, which is a relaxing silly slightly challenging game about running around picking stuff up!

Battery Drain/Overheating

Love the graphics and stages. Reminds me of the old Katamari games but the controls really need to be changed. You can’t play long because it physically hurts. My biggest issue is the battery overheating and draining that this game causes. 30% in around 30 minutes and the battery is so hot that it doesn’t want to charge right away. I hope they fix these problems because Katamari is one of my all time favorites.

This game is very fun entertaining. I like the king where he gives you different quest and other stuff is really enjoying. You guys should play. It not only that I love where you could roll the ball and get more objects by rolling them into each other something like that this is probably the best game I’ve played in very very long time. It’s really enjoying and. if you fail on one level. The king will do a very purpleish dark scene. I like the animation. of the king and all the other different outfits, you can customize on your avatar. Not only that, but there’s millions of different outfits, you can customize on your avatar. I love this game, I truly do Katamari has been a part of my life since the first game. This is fun and nostalgic that being said there’s a level where you need at least 450k followers, all the cousins, excluding the candy shop collected. I have all of the cousins and I have about 1 million followers. I have every level completed, but I cannot access this hidden level. It just keeps giving me the requirements. Hi Namco! Im your ultimate fan! Thank you guys for putting this game on apple arcade! So I love the glow sticks level and the tag level! Very fun. This game is still fun as a katamari veteran. So far in the game, no complaints. I also like the King's design in this game. Especially the head pattern. Also, one suggestion. Can you make a level in "Wish Upon a Katamari", that you collect valuable objects for a king or a dragon? That would be cool. Also I, as a fan, want Eternal mode for lots of levels. Thank you guys! I love the series, but the touch screen controls are horrible

I’ve played the original PS2 game, a PSP sequel, and a Switch remaster and loved all of them. I was stoked to play a new one, but it feels like a constant struggle with the touchscreen controls. Getting more than one star in some later levels (one to three stars is their level scoring system) feels virtually impossible, and I feel like playing with a proper controller could change my review of the game from 3 to 5 stars, but I don’t have a Backbone or whatever. I love the live-streaming angle for the ”story”. It’s quirky and fits well.

Great katamari game!

This game is great Its definitely not as good as the original katamari damacy or we love katamari damacy on console though I much prefer playing with a controller and i would probably like the touch controlls more if there was an option to not have more buttons (kinda like the controller controls) where everything is done with the joysticks To others reading this to play with a controller on your phone grab your nearest ps5 controller and a usb c cord and plug it in between your phone and the controller that way you can use it without disconnecting it from your console (or use bluetooth) There other thing i dont really like in this game (but its ok) is the level selection screen The other katamari damacy games had really quirky level selection screens and this game is more boooring in that regard i mean its nice to quickly choose a level but i miss the personality that the other katamari damacy games i played had but like its fine

Buggy game means it's not as fun as it could be

The gameplay is much the same as it was on the PS/2, with some additions that are significantly less fun. It's rather buggy on my system, with the katamari showing up as a spinning black rectangle when the King looks at it after a round. There's even one level that simply does not let you win the level at all, even when you meet the win condition (the eating contest).

One of the greatest revivals

Katamari Damacy was the first game I’ve ever played and I loved it. The sequels were also fun, but I loved We Love Katamari the most. It’s sad there were no new games for almost 15 years, but this revival is a great way to bring it back. The only downside is that it has a bit too many As Fast As Possible missions or my tastes but I’m able to ignore that with the incredible maps in this game. (My personal favorite is the bathroom map) Even though this game wasn’t perfect, it’s nice to see Katamari back. Can’t wait for Once Upon a Katamari.

Controls are awful

I was hoping it would be more fun to just roll the ball around and pick up stuff, but the controls just get in the way massively. There are 4 control layouts and somehow none of them just let you swipe left to turn left. Instead you get up = left and down = right for all 4 layouts. Insanely unintuitive.

Amazing! Wonderful! Ow, my thumbs!

4.75 stars This is the old-school Katamari dopamine dump that I didn’t know I was craving. Love this new edition, enough is different to keep it fresh, but the look and feel are exactly the same. Highly recommend to anyone, (with a disclaimer about how life-suckingly addictive the game is). However, I can’t play this to its potential while using my phone screen as a controller. It’s playable, and getting one- or two- star level passes are possible, but the screen seems to become less and less responsive while the gameplay goes on. I had to use a separate analog controller to continue onto to higher levels and find Easter eggs.

Katamari Fun!

I absolutely love the Katamari series, I recall playing this on console about 20years ago. However the mobile port / version has a few balancing issues, even if played with a handheld controller, I think to the added complexity of touch etc, the levels are (time wise) are too short at current they need extending by a further 60-90secs. As it stands it’s very hard to progress when it’s too challenging to get two starts a round let alone three. In its current state it’s great fun, but that wares off quickly as you find yourself repeating the same level over and over trying what seem impossible and that’s to roll more stuff up in the limited time. Worth a look but prepare to get frustrated more than enjoyment in this version.
