Outstanding palette of chord progressions in select scales and modes aplenty. Good enough that the only real limits are your creativity.

I lost all my saved compositions. All of my instrument sounds and scales. Everything that I had paid for monthly for five years.

Losing trust
I downloaded the first version of this app two months ago and paid full price to unlock all the features. It had most features, except for missing a microphone transcribing feature. Two months later they have a new version of the app and even with a discount (for purchasing the first version two months ago) they want me to spend another $20 to unlock it just for my phone, or $40 to unlock it for my phone and computer. That’s a little frustrating, especially considering that the new version still does not have a microphone transcribing feature. So I feel like I wasted $17 on the first version now. I’m worried if I pay the $40 for version 2, there will just be a 3rd version that they want me to buy again. May need to look elsewhere for a more long term solution.

It’s a good improvement, but I regret the purchase because the Trigger feature was omitted.

downloaded this app a few months ago and actually enjoyed it, never feeling the need to buy the add-ons and i come back to half of the features i used for free suddenly requiring a subscription to use. i totally understand the business model, but please don’t take features away from users!
Great App
I downloaded the first Suggester app in 2020 and I started writing songs again after a number of years due to my band being out of work due to COVID. I love it. I wrote over 250 songs since then using the first app, and I’ve just recently started using Suggester 2. It’s so easy to use and works well with GarageBand. All my songs start with this app. The support is fantastic. He answers my emails immediately and has walked me through a couple of things that I needed help with. I can’t say enough about how great it is. 10 out of 10.
No MIDI with out paying additional
Big disappointment !
Nice upgrade but confusing price structure
I loved Suggester and I can tell V2 offers more. However, I have no idea what I should buy. I have a policy that any subscription based app should include making me coffee in the morning and empty the kitty litter to be worth paying a monthly tax. I don’t have a Mac, just an iPad Pro and an iPhone 15 pro max (or max pro, whatever). What should I buy to get all the features without paying monthly? It looks like that’s an option but I don’t want to buy too much or too little and it’s not clear which is which. That aside, the app is great. I guess I am using the free version? If so, it’s pretty nifty even as it is (for those that can play piano, which I can). The advantage of a chord app like Suggester 2 is mental bandwidth. I can play any progression in any key, yet if I come across something I like, it’s like writing in the sand. The app allows experimentation without fear of losing inspiration. I do t know if S2 allows chord input from an external MIDI keyboard. If it does, then I’ll figure out the pricing and I’ll buy it. But I need to figure out what a “key” is and why each has two prices. Actually, I am thinking of buying a Mac Mini, so maybe I should wait and get the key for both, assuming I got the pricing scheme right.
App continuously crashes
The app is great, it really gives you control to build out cords and export them. However the app continuously crashes and you lose everything you were working on if you’re currently in the process of building a progression.
Nice update but..
Very nice little app to play around with when bored, but cost is kind of ridiculous upgrading from the first version for quality of life things that should’ve been upgraded into the first version. Also, find it weird that I had to pay again to use it on ipad and Mac after already buying it.. Mostly just nitpicking on the pricing and cross platform compatability with the packages; I ended up just buying the full version out of boredom, but acknowledge it’s fun to use to get more complicated harmonic structures in your ears. I don’t know who I’d really recommend this app for though.. probably mostly for aspiring musicians/writers who haven’t taken the time to or just don’t want to get into music theory, and want to just plug and play harmonies into their music. I just use it to mess around building harmonic progressions, for ideas to manually add into my music later.

Very limited Version
It isn't obvious that when you buy the standard version that 80% of features will not be available unless you make another purchase which is another 50% on top of the original cost. Not much fun at all.

Awesome app. Too pricey for unknown features
It doesn’t seem like there’s a reason to upgrade to Suggester 2 from the original app. As another reviewer mentioned, there’s not enough new features to justify a $15 paywall. Core features seam identical with a few niche QOL updates. I could be wrong since I’ve held back on purchasing the full version but there isn’t a side by side comparison of features. I can’t find documentation showing what features were added. It just seems weird to boast cutting edge features but the only way you can explore them is to pay for the full product.
Convenient, but costs too much for upgrade from original
Costs way too much, especially considering I already paid for the original Suggester - got it anyway because it's very convenient for messing around with chord progressions. The interface could use more work since it's already version 2, but I enjoy using it on my iPhone to mess around with chord progressions when bored.
hands down best of its kind
I hardly ever write reviews but… Where has this app been all my life??? Fantastic set of features for pretty much unlimited exploration of music. You don’t have to know music theory, yet this tool will solidly let you adhere to it, just messing around. If you are feeling stuck in chord progressions with the SAME BORING chords every time, and wish you could just try banging out something that sounds amazing in, say, Lydian mode with a few borrowed chords, in about 2 minutes, this app will make you feel unstoppable. Love that I can pick from predefined instruments or connect to my own hardware via MIDI. Export MIDI and drop it right into Ableton. And it works equally well on my Mac and my iPhone. Thank you to whomever came up with this little monster. It is now INDISPENSABLE to my songwriting flow.

Custom Chords from Keyboard
What’s really needed is custom chords enabling the user to define any chord from a keyboard and name it. For example closed and spread open chords. This is essential for jazz or orchestration. A few other apps have this. This is the main reason why I have not paid for v2. Also, it’s too difficult to define alt chords or move chords across the keyboard. I know it’s a lot of work to create and maintain an app, but adding custom is just really needed. Thank you for giving us Suggester. Updates: I can’t test custom chords without paying. Also, the chord detection might be incorrect if substitute notes for chord tones. To me, chordpolypad has made it easy to input a custom chord using a fully visible keyboard.
TOO expensive!
I have been a fan of Suggester for some years now, but I choked at the price you're asking for Suggester 2...when I compare it to an app called Atlas - that has the entire human body digitally recreated with in depth knowledge and a dissectible 3D model for less than Suggester 2 - I can only view this as a pricing mistake or price gouging - good luck with the sales :(
Needs time signature changes

Incredible! Goodbye Writer’s Block
This app is the crown jewel of swiss army knife musical creativity. Its form and function is fantastic. It has already accelerated my creativity at break neck speed. It may seem innocent on its surface, but it has so many layers to be discovered. I was amazed at how I created a great chord progression on piano and when I decided to switch it to guitar, it took minimal effort. I typically use alternate guitar tunings and found every one I could ask for immediately available. Every chord is able to be auditioned, so when you find the progression, you want to work with, you can then start to swap out different voicings and versions which allow you to enhance the sound of your progression. Its like having a multi-instrumentalist at your disposal with the ability to play your progression a ton of different ways. Then once you have your chord progression built it gives you the ability to use the app as an auv3 into another app like AUM or GarageBand and you can then have the app play the progressions for you in perfect time or you can manually tap the chords as needed. You can also use the app as a musical dictionary. Its incredible. To begin meandering on your keyboard and find some initial inspiration or chords and play them into the app with the look up tool function is like having a music scholar right next to you telling you what chord you are playing with and then you have the direction of what key and scale to work in. This app is the key to removing any musical writers' block and acts as a musical translator. I cannot stress the importance of this app as a writing, creating and performance tool. I have to commend the creator not only on an incredible app, but also in the fast and friendly support when submitting inquiries. His response was kind and quickly resolved my concerns.
Seems like v1
It seems like I'm paying for V1 all over again. The Mac test version is so restricted I can't even take it for a thorough test drive. From this side of the desk it's V1 and I already own V1. A $5 discount tp V1 users is really dissapointing and not worth the additional cost. Mathiew did a lot of improvments to V1 but I'd actually like to see what V2 does. Maybe a video in the App Store? Update: Mathieu I wouldn't know about any of the updates since the trial version is so restrictive it literally doesn't work. I'll never upgrade to this version until you make this right, you really just took the money and ran buddy
Overpriced versus Original
I’ve had the original Suggester app for a long time and many of the same features and functionalities are there. There are definitely notable feature improvements like MIDI connections and such.. but you have to get past a $15 pay wall! This is a high ceiling in my opinion in comparison to what the app in its original version can offer. I wouldn’t recommend paying $15 when you could just get the original app with more of the core functions in place without having to pay so much for an app
Is there less? Where is Ableton Link?
Is Ableton Link removed? Are there less features than Suggester 1?
Endless creativity
This is a transformative tool for creating new music opportunities. It’s also a great tool for learning new chords on guitar, and hearing what chords go together. I’ve spent over a 100 hundred hours or more, on the phone, on my iPad, and even on the Mac putting these chords together. It also works via MIDI so you can link to a DAW. Amazing product, thank you so much for making this.

Only some UI improvements
I was really looking forward to this, as I was frequent user of the first edition. To be honest I couldn’t find much difference between the two editions except for some user interface improvements. This kind of a price jump between the two editions elicits some high expectations for improvements from as a user. So far I can’t see anything to justify it. I’ll carry on using my fully upgraded first version until I see some material improvements.

The app quits unexpectedly and doesn’t save your project

My go to app, would love one more feature.
Love this app, it really helps not only with songwriting, but also as a way to document. I really wish it allowed for custom tunings. I know there are a number of alternate tunings, but it would be nice to be able to use completely custom tunings. Other than that it’s a near perfect app.
Obvious price gouge
App is probably worth $10, not that much per month.
A promising version
After using Scaler 2.8 for both iPad and Mac, this app version lacks in facility and direction. I only used the free version but find it works very little to suggest chords. It merely provides the basics to try, by chance to listen to and add your chosen chord. If you are looking for a more dynamic app with so much more, I highly recommend Scaler 2.8 . Scaler 2.8 is approximately $49-59 and requires much more time to learn, but fulfils in so many ways. This app is, like the first version, a great starting point if you are new to this and need a less expensive option - a one off purchase.
The best!
I’ve been using Suggester since version one and it’s an indispensable tool for working out chord progressions on the go. Syncing up with my tablet and desktop app is the cherry on the sundae. A+.
