makes my internet slow
not a good vpn, if I didn’t have to use it for a website I wouldn’t at all. It makes my internet unbearably slow I legit had to go back to WiFi just to load the App Store to write this review. Hord VPN is better.
It’s good
Good support and response from the team. Good app if you’re savvy to understand the profile configurations. One caveat, although subjective, the VPN icon should be moved to the iOS tray rather than next to the top left. User experience isn’t so great when you question yourself when you established a connection or not.
Delete this app if it does not work! It just takes up to a Gigabyte if you keep the app!
This app even sometimes automatically disconnects my vpn even thought I don’t even TOUCH the app! I don’t know why it is soooo hard even to connect! Sometimes I wait for HOURS for it to load! The result? NOTHING!!!??? WHY!!!??? And Roblox requires vpn, so there is a low chance to play Roblox! VPN doesn’t work so well.

Useful App
Excellent functionality for our business vpn needs.
Doesn’t connect
I download a new vpn profile it works and after a while it just loads super long and then it gives me an error message saying “connection timeout” this has happened to about 4 profiles
Connection drops when phone is locked
When I lock my phone, the VPN disconnects and does not stay active in the background. I’m using an iPhone 16 with the latest iOS version. Please fix this issue.

Need an Update
I think it's time for ios users to get an update for OpenVPN. After upgrading our phones to ios 26, we heared nothing from OpenVPN team untill now. Also I can't find OpenVPN in the "Background app refresh" menu of the ios. It automaticaly disconects everytime I lock my phone. It is so annoying.

Connection issues
Frequent connection issues where the authorization hangs and eventually requires a restart of my phone. Super annoying because it doesn’t happen regularly so I’m always on eggshells wondering if a site is slow or if my connection is borked
Seems to have a UI bug in iOS 26
The little oval that surrounds the “on/off” switch is missing after I updated to iOS 26. Without that oval, you can’t really tell if the switch is in the left or right position. This makes it so the only indication of whether the connection is on or off is if the button is grey or green, which is probably isn’t good for color blind people.
Universal application
Excellent universal and classic VPN application, where developers do not collect user data. Please add Russian language for the comfort and convenience of users.
Impossible to import profiles now
App doesn’t register the .ovpn file handler, so you can no longer share to, or open with, a .ovpn profile. This is really dumb you can’t just open a profile from within the app!

The toggle switch doesn’t look like a toggle switch anymore. Small but annoying.
If all is fine, fine but need help and they are useless
Having used this before faultlessly when I needed it again I didnt hesitate, however despite following extremely clear instructions it wouldn't connect, reached out to customer service aka Stephen, his response took 5 hours and then was patronising and rude. The only reason I gave any stars was because it worked fine previously. Do better next time Stephen!!

Useless
Cannot get the OVPN file read into the app. Useless program.
Great but missing one key feature for me
Set this up to remote back to my home network and as a way to encrypt data while I am away from home. Works super well, but the one feature I really miss from my previous paid service is the ability to mark certain networks as safe so that it doesn’t try to auto-connect. I want it to auto-connect when I am away, but not on my trusted network where my VPN is also hosted. A lesser gripe: It also took me a second to realize that, when importing the settings from a configuration file, I had open the file in Notepad on my computer first and manually change the IP listed to my DDNS URL instead, since this app won’t let me change it manually once the profile is imported for whatever reason. Otherwise, it’s been very responsive and stable. Overall, a solid app that I hope only keeps getting better with time.
Update to 3.3.4 to fix 16.5 issues
Update fixes the problem with 16.5, however there is another alternative OpenVPN app available now - better history with not breaking an iOS updates, developer is more committed.

Multiple VPN connections needed at sametime
Live the app but we need to be able to have two or VPNs running at same time but this app does not support that feature, no idea why not

I changed settings > advanced to insecure to fix it for now or it fails to connect with insecure hash error

Worst experience
Did you guys even test the app before releasing it to the public? How to import profile and related files to this app? When I try to import profile, the app says that I need not only .ovpn file, but also other cert and key files. Ok. But there isn’t a way to import these files! On iOS, there is an app called Files. Your app says using Finder! Come on, this is not a Mac. So frustrating!

Needs Files Support rather than iTunes
It’s a bit old school having to rely on plugging your phone into a computer and use iTunes to copy the OpenVPN file over when importing a profile. Can’t the app support iCloud Files please, or make the OpenVPN folder visible from within Apple’s Files app?
Problem with version check
App tells me I need to update to new version 3.3.2. and tells me I already have version 3.3.2

This application is great. I have my own VPN and app however it's Android based. This application gives me a way to offer my VPN service on iOS Devices.
Difficult setup
Loading from file is frustrating on iPad. I cannot do it. Rethink your software design.
Great product
This is perfect for connecting to your LAN network from anywhere to SSH into your devices. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t support TAP bridged networking protocol so you are forced to use TUN on the server. If your computer is hosting VMs that need to be accessed on the network, you must install the VPN server on a separate computer or inside a VM.
It’s ok...
It needs support for Siri shortcuts. Also needs support to allow auto connection for specified SSID’s or blacklist specified SSID’s.
Please add Shortcuts support!
App is ok, but very basic. Adding support for Shortcuts would take it to the next level. Easy toggles for connection, even things like automatic connection outside your home network or when on cellular would be possible. Please add support for Shortcuts! Update 07/2022: Shortcut support has finally been added!!!

When you turn off the mobile screen, the VPN is also turned off, but I don't want this to happen and there is no option to turn off this feature.
Broken IPv6 vs IPv4 and UDPv6 vs UDPv4
As the previous user described when connected via IPV6 or UDPv6 it connects but won’t route correctly. Tried multiple devices and same issue. DNS and routing no doubt in play here as an issue with the client as it worked in the past.
Ok, but needs OTP feature
It needs OTP feature so that the password can be saved, but the OTP which needs to be appended is asked for each time. At the moment I have to keep editing the password with OTP every time. Very annoying. A good implementation is tunnelblick for macOS. This needs a similar feature.

For blank black screen try this
I hadn’t used this app for a while and had set up a new VPN server today. I opened this app to try to configure it as a client of the new VPN but on trying to open the app all I got was an instant black screen. Checking in the App Store I found the app had an update button so I updated it. Same thing - black screen. Saw similar recent reviews and thought the app must be broken. After a while I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it. Now it was working - no more black screen. Might not fix every case but surprisingly it fixed my problem. I hope this helps someone.
Broken ipv6 vs ipv4
I’ve done extensive testing with identical opvn profiles on a LTE iPad and iPhone. The ipv4 iPad works and the ipv6 iPhone doesn’t. The iPhone connects but passes traffic only intermittently. Routing and DNS issues need to be fixed.
Gets the job done but needs improvement
Please add support for widgets so that we can add profiles as favourites and quickly connect to them from the widgets page as well as add a button to connect and disconnect from a vpn connection. Going in and out of the app to connect to servers is a cumbersome experience. 3D touching the icon should show these as well. Hope to see this implemented in the future.
