Chronicle Review
Before I started using Chronicle I kept a paper schedule! :-( It worked ok but I was not happy with it. I have been using Chronicle for several years now and think it is great!
No Trial Period
why would I commit to spending money on an app that doesn’t let you at least demo the features or have a trial period. you locked out the paid features but you can’t even see what they do in case you are interested in paying for this.
Best option for cheaper
Definitely the best option for cheaper. Competitors charge way too much but this is either free or low cost for extra features. I love that me and my husband can sync to the same calendar so we can both add and edit bills. The only complaint I have is that I wish we could add notes like “credit card/water/etc due date unknown” or “new bill (house repairs) starting soon but date unknown” or “check to make sure these subscriptions are canceled” so that we can remember to check on those then come back later and add it or take it off
Won't delete old bills
I've tried dozens of times to delete bills I don't have anymore. They always pop right back in
Nearly Perfect
It's simple and effcient. It's so easy I wish there wasn't a cost associated, although it's super affordable. The only issue I consistantly have is the sync between devices. One is always outdated. I also can't recover a missing pin for a password one device and there is no way to reset it so I'm permanently locked out.
Still the best bill reminder IMO. Any news about updates to modernize the UI and add AI?
Titles says it all. Still no other bill reminder app can replace it. The only thing that came close is one that doesn’t have macOS App. Can you tell us if you are working on updating Chronicle with a newer looking UI. And adding Apple AI support. Also, would be nice if it worked with YNAB. Like showing bill reminders in YNAB somehow. And marking bills paid when you enter the transaction in YNAB. I’m sure there’s other usages having these two work together.
Charged but no upgrade
I've been using for a few years now with no issues. But I recently got charged for my annual subscription but when I go to use the app it says I need to upgrade! Anytime I tried to reach out via their page for support it kept saying check your email then would freeze
Sharing
Love it but can't print it or share it with anyone, a holder of a POA for example.
Disappointed
I started using Chronicle in January 2023. I loved the app and decided after a year of trialing it that I would subscribe to the Chronicle pro version. So in January 2024 I started my subscription and It worked great and tracked the balance of all my bills. Renewed my subscription again on January 2025, I could still use Chronicle, but the benefits of Chronicle pro didn’t work anymore. I was hoping it was a fluke so I resubscribed in January of this year 2026 and still can’t access the pro version benefits. I tried signing in manually to Chronicle and it says it doesn’t recognize my email. Support seems to be minimal and no way for me to contact anyone to get this fixed so even though it was a great app i I’m not going to continue paying for something that I’m not receiving. Good luck all and stick to the free version.
GREEEAAT!
I love this app! Few things though… 1. I do wish we could have more icons and/or use our emojis instead (to customize it even more). 2. A colour code or a coloured tag could be very helpful to keep track of the different categories of bills (tags or colours for home, credit, transportation, subscriptions etc not just separated sections). 3. A “paid” button could be very convenient too, especially for fixed and recurring payments. It could give us the options : archive, skip, log payment (for partial payments or payment not fixed) and paid! If it’s too many, we could archive only when we tap on the payment instead of having this option as a “quick action” to give priority to the “paid” button Each option could be optional to the customers in the settings. The app lags badly when inputting the numbers
Keeps my Bills Organized
I really love this app and have been using it for quite some time. However, I do have one issue: occasionally, when I enter a payment amount by tapping on the numeric keypad, there is a lag. Sometimes, I have to tap a number multiple times for it to appear in the payment amount section. The difference between when the app is running smoothly and when it is lagging is very noticeable. Occasionally, restarting my phone or force closing the app helps, but today those solutions did not work. The lagging issue persisted despite trying both fixes.
Not for MAC
The app won’t even open on my MAC anymore. It works fine on my iPhone but I purchased it for computer use.
So many issues since purchasing
I’d been using the app for a while, the free version and decided I wanted to track income and a few other bills that needed custom due dates and boy am I sorry I did because now every bill is off. I decided to purchase mainly for the ability to also track income and ever since I’ve done that every bills due date has been thrown off for some reason. For example I have a bill due every other Tuesday with the free version, no problem I’d log payment and the date would change to two Tuesdays later but now I have to manually go in after logging payment to change it back to Tuesday. This is also true for all my other bills. Once I log the payment I have to go manually change the next due date every time. Example my due date is the 5th every month but once I log the payment the next due date is always 2-3 days off even though I’ve changed nothing else other than logging the payment. Very disappointing because not only did I spend money but I loved the ease of the app and how great it tracked compared to other apps I tried.
Favorite App!
This app is SO helpful… I have many accounts to keep up with (both business and personal) and, without Chronicle, it would be much more difficult. I appreciate being able to link directly to bill payment sites, add calendar reminders, and post various notes to myself regarding each account etc. It’s a big help at tax time, also!
Terrible!
Very few icon choices. Poor job of logging bills and tracking income. A complete waste of money. I know it’s only $11.99, but I definitely feel ripped off!!!!
Great app, outdated UI
Really good app but the UI seems a bit outdated. Especially the icons
Archived or deleted?
At first I found this a handy app for monitoring incoming payments from my clients when taking credit card payments. I use a payment processing provider which gives me the option to receive a combined deposit of payments on a set day each week. This handy tool allowed me to monitor the individual payments and ‘archive’ them individually when they arrive. However, I’ve tried to find an ‘archived’ payment and I cannot find any historic transactions at all. The ‘help’ section is no help and very basic. The app ‘screenshots’ on the App Store indicate historic items can be viewed yet I cannot find them anywhere. Another issue is whilst writing this there have been no updates or bug fixes for 5 months and I subscribe to the pro version.
Missing forex transactions
Chronicle does a pretty good job of tracking recurring transactions but of course it‘ll never balance your books if you don’t enter all the one-off payments and income as well. One thing that I find very limiting is its failure to handle multiple currencies. Another thing is the hassle of visiting multiple bank, credit card, paypal accounts to collect all the data. A bank feed integration would really help. Also can I actually search and find a transaction?

No way to export at all… very frustrating

Love the app really helps keep me organized. But still waiting on being able to export in to a cvs. Or even if I could print it. Then it would be better. IF this is not done soon I will have to cancel subscription.
Great app
I've been using this app for the last 10 months and I've got to say it's great. I can see what's I've got to pay out each month and once you learn your way around it you can use it to open links to your bank account to pay anything manually that is not done by DD. I've even just bought the Mac version of this. This is now one of my must have apps. The developer has been listening to the suggestions and it does now have iCloud syncing which is fantastic. Ive even given a suggestion to the developer and he likes the idea so fingers crossed this will happen. Update To have pro features I’ve got to purchase this even though I purchased the app to start with. And to have the pro features on Mac I’ve got to basically pay what I paid for the app again. Oh and it looks like the version I paid for is now free. So why what the heck did I purchase. It’s wrong to make users pay if they purchased the app when it was a paid app to start with. And still my suggestion has not been implemented and that was 3 years ago. Stopped using this now, all my banking apps now have what this provides. and I don’t need to purchase pro features because you get everything.
Annoying 2 step pay process
A slightly painful feature is marking the bills paid. First swipe to log payment and then a very inconvenient placement at the very top right to "press to save" the process. It should be a one tap or one swipe process. Do the 2 step process if you have to edit a bill maybe, but not to pay. I'm sure other users find this process slightly annoying aslo.

Broken for recurring items on 29/30/31st
If you have a recurring payment scheduled on the 29th or 30th or 31st of each month in February the app moves it to the 28th - which is fine, but come March the recurring items remain on the 28th instead of returning to their original dates Missed some payments because of it!!
i upgraded from Chronicle Pro and now i don't have any income listed
This was a feature i HAD and now i don't have... and you're asking for money to get it back. I don't need income forecast, reports or any of that other stuff... i just like to know when my wife's paycheque is going to be deposited. I'm just going to go back to my pro version that has the feature i already paid for.
Perfect bill tracking app
Tested many different apps to track bills payments. All of the others did more than I wanted or were overly complicated. This app is perfect balance of simplicity and features I’m looking for. Really enjoy the shortcut actions integrations and the iPhone widgets. Would like to see some Apple Watch functionality though.
only 5 bills in the free version
Dont waste your time and bandwidth downloading this app. You cant even test run it properly to see if you would want to pay for the Pro version...who in life only has 5 bills to add?!?!
Great app, aversion to iCloud?
This app works well. I wish the new design didn’t put an disconnected cloud icon on the screen just because I don’t use their syncing. iCloud syncing works fine and I don’t need to have a different account just to sync my bills across devices. Please let people hide the cloud disconnected icon as it’s rather misleading…

The only bill organizer I’ve stuck with
They made it simple enough that you’ll actually use it. No linking banking accounts and all that nonsense. You click that you paid a bill and it updates the date. You can add or delete bills easily. This app has benefited me in my life.
Data collection!!!
This app wants to collect your email address. The reason given is “to keep you updated on new updates and tips” all can be done via App Store so there’s no reason to share email yet it doesn’t allow you to skip the email requirement. Also the email is managed and handled away from the app making. Terrible approach to security! Do not download!!!!
Overall Great App!
This guy is absolutely what I was looking for and rather unique in the App Store! The only issues I’ve experienced with it is some trouble with scheduling certain bills that pop up more than once a month. Honestly I’d really prefer if you could assign a bill to specific calendar days. Also, if some income could be marked as not automatic that could be nice. Overall love it tho!!
Buggy, could be better
App is buggy. Touch ID is hit or miss—sometimes it either doesn't prompt for authentication or the app lets you in even if you have a passcode set. Would be good to get a total of all bills for a given month, and for subsequent months.
Love desktop version; hate mobile
Have been using Chronicle for years on Mac but as banking becomes more mobile I expect my bill-tracking system to be mobile, too. Recently downloaded the iOS version to find it a very limited version of the desktop app, which no longer allows me to save bill statements & paid receipts; instead, I have to type in confirmation #s. If I just wanted a bill “tracker,” I would use excel; Chronicle says it’s a bill “manager,” and it is—on the desktop. That plus no more Dropbox sync has me looking for another app. Unfortunately Chronicle is currently the best out there IMO, but sooner or later it will not be, & I will ditch it.
Great App, Great Developers!
I absolutely love this app, but us old farts need a new feature. For income, need to consider Social Security paydays. For instance, “Repeats every third Wednesday”. Know what I mean, Vern? Update: it’s in there! These developers are amazing, thank you!
Unfortunate
Similar to other review. The Dropbox sync allowing for sharing of data was a big deal. The removal of this make the app useless (for me). The explanation provided was due to effort to maintain Dropbox sync in light of API changes. I’m sure that’s true but I expect there was also an opportunity to remove the capability and reintroduce it as a paid subscription feature in accordance with current trends (speculation only). Whatever the case I can’t continue on with the app as it is today.
Love it but…
It would be really helpful if I was able to enter my starting balance for my account and have a running total in the forecast. This way I can see what my account balance is after each bill. Also, if there was an option to carry over the remainder of what is left to the next month. I would give it 5 stars if this was available.
Not very efficient to use
Not sure if I understand this app because it feels like a chore at times. It's a great concept to have reminders for bills however my bill totals change every month and changing that figure is tedious. Also when The year likes to default at 4000 and takes forever to wheel back to 2015.
Disappointed
Thought it was the best bill reminder app but lately it's been very buggy. I put in a new auto payment bill 3 different times today and still can't find it. It wasn't saving it or who knows what happened to it. Fed up, found a better app.
Great Financial App.
Have used Chronicle for years to manage our bills, etc. It is easy to use and has all of the information you need to stay abreast of your financial affairs. Integrates well with other Apple devices. Excellent support from developer. Recommend daily use to keep current! The NOTES feature is very helpful to record important information! It is also easy to correct and update information. July4, 2024: Am still using Chronicle and rely on it. Keeps me up-to-date with our bills. Highly recommend this app for its simplicity and comprehensiveness!!
Was a good app...
My wife and I used this to keep on top of bills and we liked it. But if a clunky interface but it worked. Now without Dropbox sync there is no way for us to stay in sync so it really is useless couples.
Partial payment?
I’d give 5 stars but I can’t figure out how to do a partial payment.
Not bad, but still needs work
Overall this is not a bad application and it is nice to be able to also work with desktop (Mac) version and have both sync together. However, there are still serious shortcomings, for example: 1. Bills set for automatic payment do not automatically log themselves as paid, but instead show as being overdue. 2. NOTE field is Log Payment window is tiny and does not easily show all information entered there. 3. Enter Passcode screen does not appear quick enough, so that one can see the list of bills before it is covered by Passcode entry screen. 4. Even this latest version still does not support Touch ID.
Get old badly. :(
Really good app but the Apple WATCH need a little bit of love it just don't open at all. :( Also, French and more category would be a nice addition!
