It is a scam
I purchased the game years ago. I got my friends to purchase it. It had several fun free maps. Then when you update after it removes them and now says that you have to pay for the maps you had before the update. Everyone needs to change their rating for this game if the rated it from before this scam!
Classic turn-based fantasy wargame
This is an old DOS game from the 90s, updated with minor changes for the iPhone. You fight with stacks of troops, with combat modifiers for terrain, flying units, special (magical) units, and heroes. Captured cities generate income, which you spend to recruit and maintain different troops, so you have to choose the right troops, manage your money and logistics of troop movements, and plan your strategy and tactics while battling AI and/or other players. Heroes can also explore ruins to randomly get more gold, recruit magical troops, or get magic items for combat bonuses. The game auto saves as you go, which makes it a challenge, but you can undo every action since your last combat. I think it’s a great game, but there are two fixes that would really improve it. 1) In the original game, the AI would surrender if you have more than 40 cities, and they have 16 cities less than you. I’ve never had an AI surrender in this version, and it’s a bit tedious to play the game to the bitter end to get the victory, so I just quit when it’s obvious I’m going to win. So they really need the surrender feature in this version. 2) There’s no option to delete saved games. This one should be a pretty easy fix, and frankly, it’s a basic feature that any app with saved games should have.
Premium price with in app purchases?
I don’t get it, I have paid 7.99 Canadian dollars for the game but once in the game each map is 3.99 to unlock? I mean there are 58 maps to buy that’s over 230 dollars???? The game is cool but that’s a lot to ask for an oldie, especially when it is available as abandonware.
Time Machine with absurdly expensive maps.
I don’t mind paying for content, but paying $3.99 per map is absurd. The game is a blast from the past but the maps simply are not worth it.
Bug in newest version
You can’t purchase the newest map.
Very Glitchy
Groups come apart randomly when attacking. Doesn’t show other teams turns. Etc.
Needs better logic for battles
Overall, it's a fun app. However, whatever algorithm is being used to determine battle outcomes in multiplayer is severely flawed. Be prepared for frustration when impossible battle outcomes become reality. I've seen a hero (at 7+10) with 3 demon units lose to a griffin and other ridiculous results. Otherwise, an enjoyable way to waste time.
Taking away maps from time of original purchase
Developer is removing maps that were included in the original purchase and now charging for them. Such a bad business practice! Also, during battles, armies are not always organized from lowest to highest army in terms of defeats and you wind up losing stronger armies before losing weaker armies. Seems like a development flaw!
Buggy on iOS 18
Ever since iOS 18 was released the game crashes out on every undo and some other random times.
I have been waiting 31 years.
Its great. Please add the rest of the features from warlords II deluxe and exp pack. Most importantly, I want to be able to buy new production units for cities like the old game. And i miss the exp pack skins. And then let me just buy it all at once rather than using in-app purchases…
Greed
The Warlords series of turn-based and strategy games was created by Australian programmer and designer Steve Fawkner. He developed the first Warlords game, which was released in 1989 . More about Steve Fawkner: • He created the game in about four months, inspired by Walter Bright's tabletop wargames Empire and Dragons of Glory, as well as the game The Lords of Midnight Who is this character who claims here that he is the creator of this game? All what you can is create cloud useless maps and sell it 3$ per map.
Great Memories
I loved this fantastic game in the 1990s and I'm happy to say that this version is true to the original in most respects. There's no diplomacy yet but we're told that it's coming. My only real criticism relates to the combat. When you attack an enemy, you see the armies lined up against each other and one by one the units disappear as they are destroyed (like the original - all good!). However when you are attacked, the battle is resolved without the combat being displayed. You're left wondering exactly how you triumphed or how your army was slaughtered. Hopefully the developers will address this.
Good game but greedy devs
Good game AI could be better but overall I would of given it 8.5/10 but I had bought the full game that came with 9 maps which was included in the deal but now they took the maps and left me and other original customers 3. This has to be borderline illegal and basically theft. I would change my review if the maps were given back to the original customers who bought it before that scam update!!
Will
Your new maps have weakened monsters (Griffons, Archons, etc). If you make all the monsters weak, might as well just make a map with just foot soldiers, if parity is your goal. The old maps have stronger monsters, I’ll stay there, thanks.
Amazing
I’ve been playing this game off on for 30 years. I played the original you on my grandpa PC, blew my mind. Still get surprised k bp by the AI’s move even today.
Bought the game. Came back to find less available maps
I loved the Warlords games back in the 90s. I was very happy many years ago to find this available and bought it. I spent a lot of time playing the various maps and then took a multi year break. I was in the mood to play it again only to find most of the maps I once played only available if I spend money for each map. Feels like something I once had is now taken from me. Feel free to charge extra for new maps, but taking away old maps and putting them behind a paywall is ridiculous. Not worth it.
So many missing things original game
It was close but a slight miss, how come there are no quest or as many allies.

Das Spiel ist grundsätzlich top! Das jetzt selbst alte Karten neuen bezahlt werden müssen, empfinde ich mehr als grenzwertig. Für mich ist das Spiel aber aktuell aus einem anderen Grund unten durch. Bei See-/Flusskarten baut die KI jetzt immer Schiffe. Damit ist die KI kein vernünftiger Gegner mehr und das Spiel macht keinen Spaß. Schade. War mal gut ..

Removing features is theft
Developer made an "update" that removes access to maps you already paid for and expects you to pay for them again. This should be illegal. Do not support this kind of behavior.
Question on the port to modern phone / tablet
Where’s the clear or the centre button? Both seem missing. Why no zoom possibility for iPad/iphone.. why is the manual downloaded each time rather than builtin, the manual isn’t updated for the iPhone interface…

An sich scheint das Spiel ganz nett zu sein. Aber wenn ich 5 Euro bezahle und dann nur 3 Maps habe und jede weitere einzeln für Minimum 1 Euro kaufen muss ist das eine Frechheit. Von wegen früher war alles besser :-)

Great Port of a Classic
Would like to see more implementation of Warlords II features (stack vectoring, better unit and hero inspection, real army lists, and ability to purchase different production) but beggars can’t be choosers, I suppose. Overall, loads of fun.
Karten nachträglich gesperrt
Prinzipiell ein sehr nettes Spiel und eine gute Umsetzung des alten Klassikers. Nur wer kommt auf die Idee, Karten nachträglich zu sperren? Das riecht ganz streng und ist diesem guten Ansatz nicht würdig. Bitte wiederherstellen, dann gibt es auch wieder 5 Sterne.
Was fun but they took away access to maps that were free
The old game from the 90’s is still fun to play. Recently, however the removed access to some new maps that had been free. Irritating! Please “grandfather “ in those who had access at the very least!

Map access removed
Like others, I’m disappointed they now charge for free maps that I had access to and played regularity. I did not mind when they charged for new maps. I purchased many of them. Great game and I was happy to support them. But it’s unacceptable to suddenly charge for all the free maps I previously had access to. Changed my view of the developers. Breach of trust. I’ll keep playing but will not give them more money. I will not purchase any new maps and will not buy heroes, which I would do once in a while.
Tedious labour of love
I played this when I was a kid. It has much of the original game play, but becomes tedious and laborious to find units that haven’t been given orders. Also, fog of war does not work in seeing the enemies actions in your field of view. Played it for three days and thought I’d better rate it!
On my M3 Air, Almost like the 68K version
The classic is indeed back. I’m running the iPad version on my MacBook Air. There’s only one thing missing: keyboard shortcuts. The mouse control was always good, the interface is slightly improved, and the only thing I’m missing is the keyboard shortcuts. Since it’s only tested for iPad/iPhone, that it works smoothly on the Mac is a nice surprise.

Over the time that I have been playing this game, all maps went from free, to some pay, to almost all pay to play. Game is now a rip off!

Karten nachträglich durch update gesperrt
Das Spiel ist eine gute Umsetzung das Originals, die ich jetzt leider löschen werde, weil alte Karten nachträglich gesperrt wurden. Ich habe in der Vergangenheit für neue Karten bezahlt, aber vorher kostenlose Karten durch ein Update kostenpflichtig zu machen halte ich für ein sehr fragwürdiges Geschäftsmodell, dass ich nicht weiter unterstützen kann.
A nice game but IAP looks redundant
It'd be better to strengthen the ai and make the IAP items free and without turn limit.
Old friend is back
Great to see a casual and engaging game on the iPad. True to the desktop version. Easy to learn and a great way to keep the unruly horde at bay!
Just a money grab due to few free maps and week AI
Huge price to re-purchase maps. Amazing how they can arbitrarily just remove your purchasing rights. Stay away, and find a better game. AI compensation by extremely slanted results. Frustrating that the statical chances that should be rare, are quite common.
A Great Game
Warlords 2 for the Mac is in my short list of all time favourite games and while the port to iOS doesn't include absolutely every little feature of the original it certainly includes the best parts. The older I get the more I struggle to find games that really motivate my interest or adapt well to the amount of time I have available. I'm pleased to say Warlords for iOS has a permanent spot on my home screen.
Since last update
Basically all free maps have been removed. Still a quality port but to remove 75% of the free content after already purchasing the game is a little much. Should have offered an update that added quests for hero’s or was a closer version to Warlord’s 3. Or at least tell us you are creating a port for W3 darklords rising. I’d glady buy all maps if that was the goal long term
The Oliver syndrome
Not a game I've played before sad to say, given my age I feel I should have. I do enjoy games of this genre. I've been playing this game for a little while now and enjoy it immensely. I do however have one gripe, that infernal money grubbing icon tucked up in the corner of the screen. The idea of playing fantasy games is to immerse yourself and be transported away from the harsh realities of this reality. Please put that icon out of sight and let us enjoy our game without the thought of someone dipping their fingers into our pockets.
Terrific port
This is an amazing port of the original game. Fun to play and lots of replay ability. I spent too many hours as a kid waiting for my computer to run through a single turn. Playing this game gives the same thrills, but much faster. Lots of options (old units, new units) and replay-ability is off the chart. Active designer and new features and maps added and being worked on. Buy it already!!
Maps Paywall
I only bought this for sentimental reasons. Only 3 maps are included unlike the original. Unable to return due to Apple policy of no returns.
Good, but where are the updates?
Great port, very few bugs and gameplay is smooth. However, only 8 maps, and no updates in a long time. Looks like they've cashed in and moved on. Shame really, as it gives this game a very limited shelf life.
