Informative and detailed
I enjoy the reading WDYTYA and would definitely recommend this to others, I find the historical stories fascinating and intellectually engaging.
Faulty
Signed up for a subscription and paid.I was then unable to download a copy of the magazine, it came up with a error message. I instantly cancelled my subscription.
Nice periodical
Note that this is a U.K.- focused publication, although it does cover other countries? The magazine reads well on my iPad. I love that references in articles to other websites are live. It is a bit pricey, however.
Can’t read type
Current edition has white type on a pale background which makes it impossible to read on phone. The publishers need to check that the print edition works on the phone app. Other recent editions also have had jumbled up words.
Buggy and not useful
Two issues: 1. When you search for an article as soon as the result are displayed it crashes unless you are extremely quick in choosing a result. Edit: this fault happened for the first day or two. It seems to have been corrected. 2. I already have two or three years back numbers - I already have a subscription. I downloaded this app to give me the ability to search these back issues. The results generated from a search don’t tell where the article is and only offer to sell me the mag containing that article. As a lot of the information in the magazine becomes outdated within a year or two this is rather pointless. Edit: on some searches the actual pages are displayed and on others only a preview is offered of the mag issue it is in. The app needs a function that just indexes the articles and tells you where your search result appears. If then you don’t have that copy you can then buy it.
Ms
Excellent. I prefer the electronic version to the paper one as the hyperlinks make it so much quicker and easier to locate further details

Total rubbish can’t get my subscription to work tried to report it that doesn’t work either
Boquediva
Excellent genealogy resource and social history magazine.
No Pocketmags integration.
The app is fine for reading, its just a shame that it doesn’t integrate with Pocketmags as some of my magazines are bought through that and some are from iTunes. When I look at my library in the app, it looks like I am missing some issues because the Pocketmags ones don’t show up as purchased issues.
Review
I really love reading my WDYTYA on the iPad but this has got to be the world’s most unstable app. Nothing it is supposed to do ever works and I have to contact their support most of the times a new issue comes out to get them to fix access problems.
Great resource
Great resource for anyone researching their family history. Wish I had subscribed years ago, downloaded over the weekend and have lost hours browsing through linked websites. Highly recommend.
DO NOT UPDATE
I have updated the app and lost all my magazines. It will not show them and today the media company even took a new payment. Absolute disaster so if you want to read the magazine, buy it at a newsagent as this app no longer works despite removing and re downloading 3 times
I like the magazine, but!!
Don't know what happened to my subscription - was supposed to automatically renew on 22 April (according to an e-mail from iTunes), however this didn't happen. Just paid for another 12 months - hope this works okay.
Hate, hate, hate it
I hate the new app. It’s more like a collection of web-based articles than a Family History magazine. It’s bad enough that I’m considering ending my subscription
WDYTYA Magazine and iPAD application
The magazine itself deserves 5 stars. The viewer application falls short. The application allows you to download one issue at a time and the download often stops before completion. This problem has not been resolved through many application updates. I did pay for all back issues but still can not download them on my iPad for offline reading. As a genealogist, this magazine is superb for all levels. Pricey and focused on the United Kingdom but the content is excellent and highly relevant for U.S. readers.
Who do you think you are?
A fantastic magazine full of useful information. Having it on my iPad and therefore with me all the time even better
Ueless Search
Already have a hardcopy subscription so downloaded only to test the search facility. Frankly it is useless. Unable to use “” facility to narrow search results. Searched for “Buns on board” which is a hopefully unique caption appearing in April 2020 edition. The search found masses if hits from endless editions for words containing “on”. Don’t bother with it.
very useful
v useful fro family history enthusiasts
Subscription handling
Very poor admin of sub compared to other titles No notice of new issues; Does not download readily and seems to be later than issue in print! I am on standing order as with other titles
Who do you think you are?
Love it!!!! Easy to access app. Readable and straight forward.
Great magazine
Good mix of articles, interesting and helpful for all genealogists at what ever level.
Disappointed
I had a automatic subscription then it seemed to stop. I downloaded the newest issue and I was like something is wrong. This was one of my favorite magazines in print and online. It is popular that the issues at Barnes and noble go fast so I relied on the online version. I feel like I am not getting the magazine in the new app and the content is set up in that I feeling that I am not getting the whole article. What a disappointment. I will have to take my chances at the store. Online is not worth $4.99.
Useful help
The Best
Very unstable.
Will only subscribe when bugs, of which there are many, get sorted out.
Helpful
Provides information that helps so much
Landscape view missing
Come on!! An app like yours needs the ability to rotate to landscape. I stopped caring the minute I saw you dont accomodate it.
Lots of information
A fantastic app and easy to use. Lots of interesting information, the variety is immense. Past additions available. I don't know why I haven't subscribed to this before. Details of websites and records available, stories from readers...An excellent tool.
Useless as "server problems"
I received an advertising email so subscribed & set up a direct debit only to have wasted a day and a half trying to download anything & so far no reply at all from "support". I have an excellent Internet connection & the problem seems to be confined to this App.
Really good app
I love this app because it lets me keep all my issues with articles I want to refer back to without having piles of magazines in my house.
Alan Burnett
I tried to buy an individual copy of the magazine using this app and it would not download (although it managed to take my money) After endless emails to their support service they don't seem able to solve the problem nor can they give me a refund and simply suggest that I contact Apple! Poor app, poor service, poor experience. Which is a pity as the magazine is a good one.
Always Interesting
Adds to my knowledge with every issue.
Can't download
Tried to download free trial copy but kept sending me back to newsstand.
