What people like
- Weather forecasts remain very accurate
- Best weather app for Chicago residents
- Map layers are easy to customize now
What they complain about
- Ads block the screen and won't close
- App layout is confusing after recent updates
- Radar feels delayed compared to live TV
Amazing
Loved this app!!
Needs serious repair
Radar is 15 minutes behind your own channel 9 radar when compared to live tv and app, get multiple notifications not for my set location and or late , the storm hots us and your radar is miles away, storm over and not I get notifications and the big red blob is over us on radar but the sun is now shining, this could result in a dangerous situation during severe weather where timing is everything, also a law suit could be in the mix being from a screenshot the can prove the useless inaccuracy of this app, I have sent this to several lawyers I know for review. I’d get it fixed otherwise take it down!
Latest Update
I really like the layout of this latest update. I like that the color index is on the top of the screen versus all the information bunched on the bottom of the screen. The layers of the map is also easier to customize than previous versions.
What happened to the blog?
I have used this app for years and have always appreciated the information you share in the blog. Now, when I open the blog, it says: “No content available”. Please, bring the blog back! It’s what sets this app apart as being great. With the blog, I give this app 5 stars. Without it, 2 stars.
Used to be okay
I want to see the weather, not some old guy wearing a HD vest. Can’t get rid of these ads either.
Frustrating
This app is horrible. It cuts off or starts in the middle of some of the highlighted programs …9@9. It’s too many ads for each different clip and it never gives you the full story. I deleted it. I recently moved from that area, so I enjoyed keeping it with the news. But it’s not worth the frustration.
Radar too small & busy
I’ve loved this App for years, but recent changes make the radar on the phone near-impossible to read. (I still like it on my tablet) The home screen has too much info and temps and controls now take up so much space, I struggle to see what’s happening. The radar “play” is no longer transparent. I’m using the app during a major storm outbreak right now and need to see more area! This app is my main source of weather when I don’t have my tablet with me. (I’d rate the App 4.5 if I only used the tablet) I’d have sent “developer feedback” instead of leaving this sad review, but there is no link: everything goes to the WGN website where (once painstakingly located) the Contact list does NOT include the WGN app developers. Fix that, too! This App used to have a Technical Feedback link.
Ads are killing the app
I used to love this app. But now every time I open the hourly weather window there is a 30 second ad that makes me want to throw the phone and then it repeats itself and you can’t get out of it. The worst.
More ads, less value
An empty blog, unreliable forecasts and long ads marked Tom Skilling’s departure. Sad.
Poor updates
The current update to the app has ads and banners taking up more than 50% of the screen space on my iPhone. Difficult to interpret.
Used to be great –now Ads taking over app
It's still a very accurate radar & forecast, and great to overlap or choose individual weather elements- But it is just progressively gotten more intrusive with the ads. Annoyingly so at this point. I didn't mind X ing out of a small screenshot before, but now it'll just blast a full commercial at you before you can look at the forecast, hourly – etc.
TOTAL TRASH
And nobody cares
Ads have overrun the app
Used to be a great app for quickly checking the weather and now they force you to sit through full screen ads for 15 seconds at a time, and the same ad again when you switch screens to a different section. It’s making it all but unusable.
Present App
Used to be great but now is full of holes!!! Actually no stars but I needed to click one to enter this 😮
App has bugs
This was a great app until the last update. Now giant pop up ads come on repeatedly and won’t click off. Have to restart it several times before it works. Did no one test it out?
Been using for years. Ad pop-ups ruined it
Ads pop-up frequently and take up the entire screen for sometimes 30+ seconds. I’ve patiently waited because I really like WGN and the weather app but it’s gotten to the point where I’m waiting longer to use the app than the actual time checking the weather. On top of that there have been times where I can’t even close out of an ad and I have to quit the app and try again just to experience the same issue of not being able to close the ad. So long WGN weather app. The ad experience has ruined a really great weather app.
Used to be great! Ads block the app
Some ads I get. But ads that pop up, block the screen, and then the little counter STOPS! The app is unbearable now.
Ad aggressive
This used to be my go to weather app. In the last 6 months there’s so many pop up ads it’s really not worth it anymore. You’re better off just going with Accuweather or The Weather Channel. Apps like WGN are just way too money hungry and kill you with pop up ads
The App is going downhill
The last changes made it less helpful, functional and more confusing. With the addition of the pop up advertising that interrupts the forecasts it takes longer and longer to access. I’d rather pay than have the ads.
Junk
The ads lock up my iPad mini 6. You can’t x out of ad. The app locks up. You have to get out of app then restart several times.
Ads too slow
The number of ads has increased quite a lot and often the app gets stuck on an ad, so I don’t get to the actual weather any more.
Downhill
Used to love this app but now the ads freeze and it’s impossible to get all the layovers you want
Used to be good
Noisy pop up ads you can’t cannot get rid of for at least fifteen seconds. Really? Just to look at a weather forecast?
Complete unusable
This used to be my favorite weather app but it’s become completely unusable lately because of ads. Huge ads take over the whole screen and they don’t disappear when you tap the x. It’s literally impossible to see the weather. So disappointed.
Used to be the best
In the Chicago area, this was the best weather app that I had ever come across. How could it be bad it came from the world of Tom Skilling back in the day right? Today it is nothing but ill placed advertising. I understand it must've been difficult to get someone to pay the high fee fees for that splash screen ad that used to come on every time you open the app and now the entire app with ridiculous advertising before you even see the forecast and when you try your screens. Very disappointing and not a good look for the folks in Chicago who depend on it
